Abstract

An experiment on biourine fermentation using cow urine has been carried out. The objective of this research was to optimize biourine fermentation by adding starter and palm sugar. The reseach used Completed Randomized Block Design with factorial pattern of 2 factors and 3 levels each. The first factor was starter concentrations of Rumino bacillus 0, 15, and 30 ml. The second one was weight of palm sugar added at 0, 15, and 30 g. Each treatment was repeated 3 times. Varibles observed were pH, acid, soluble solid, organic C, and total N. Results of the research indicated that starter addition of 15-30 ml and palm sugar 15 -  30 g for every 1500 ml cow urine accelerated biourine production in the fermentation stage of cow urine which was taken from simantri number 225. The fermentation process was carried out for 7 days and by adding this combination of traitment shortening the process to 5 days. This was shown by pH,total acid, and total dissolve solids value of urin which was stable after 5 days of fermentation. Concentration of 30 ml R. bacillus with the addition of 30 grams brown sugar in 1,500 ml of fermented cow urine is the optimal treatment in which the value of pH is 6, 0.5% total acid, and 3.80Brix total dissolved solids. This is supported by the standard of Permentan Number 70 with a pH value of 4-9. However, the research for C-organic and N-total has not fulfilled the standard of Permentan in which the C-organic is 6% and N total is 3-6%.

Abstract

Land processing activities in Subak can reduce the develo pment of weeds, loosen the soil, and condition the biophysical properties of the soil. Subak in Bali is generally processed using hand tractors (either equipped with singkal plows or rotary plows). I f using a singkal plow, the stages of tillage include mak al (turning the soil), nyacahin (reducing the size of the chunks of soil), and then ngasahan (leveling). This research aims to determine the efficiency of land processing in the second stage of land processing in Subak using singkal tractors and rotary tra ctors. This research uses the observation method and measures the real (field) working capacity of the tractor used during land processing. Some of the assumptions used in this research are that the technical condition of the tractors used, the tractor acc essories used, and the operator's skills are assumed to be the same. The results showed that the performance efficiency of the rotary tractor in the nyacahin process (second stage of tillage) in Suba k was 41% and the performance efficiency of the singkal t ractor was 17.8%.

Abstract

A cooler box is a device used to store and keep ingredients cool and fresh. One of the efforts to develop a cooling source for made cooler boxes is to use a thermoelectric module TEC1-12715 that utilizes the Peltier effect. This study aims to determine the temperature reached in the cooler using TEC1- 12715 as a cooling device. The cooler box load without and with a cooling load (bottles filled with water with a volume of 600 ml each). The cooling load data and the coefficient of performance (COP) are displayed in a graph of observations every 6 minutes. All the analyzed data showed in the pictures and tables. The results showed that the cooler box temperature without load decreased by the increasing cooling time. The average temperature achieved was 17.08°C. The average water temperature in the cooler containing 2, 4, and 6 bottles of aqua was 21.56°C, 23.08°C, and 24.74°C, respectively. An increase in cooling load will increase the input power into the cooler box and lower the COP value of the cooling system

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the pattern of water requirements for strawberry plant using hydroponic which was planted in the greenhouse, from transplanting to harvesting time. The materials used in this study were the strawberry seedlings, rice husk, NPK fertilizer and plastic polybag. The tools used were 4-way soil analyzer to measure soil pH, soil moisture, light intensity for soil, analytical balance, plastic tank that were used to store water, ruler and thermometer. Parameters observed were initial moisture content, the period of irrigation water supply, amount of water used by plants and irrigation water requirement. Based on the study which was conducted during the (i)high level is (57,66 ml/day), (ii)medium is (42,40 ml/day) and (iii)low is (30,06 ml/day) of soil moisture, it showed that crop water requirement depended on existing soil moisture. In addition, there was a trend that crop water requirement would increase as the increase of soil moisture. During low level of soil moisture (under the field capacity), the plant would experience difficulties in extracting water from soil. Conversely, during high level of soil moisture, water would easily be taken and plant water requirement would increase because of the increase of soil evaporation, especially during the initial stage of plant growth.

Abstract

Subak is a social organization in Bali that specifically regulates traditional water distribution system to grow rice. With the rapid development of this time, the existence of subak is threatened because of the conversion of land to other uses outside the agricultural sector which causes open green space to be increasingly reduce. Environmental services are the services provided by the ecosystem functions that have direct and indirect benefits to human welfare. This research analyzed to changes in soil quality in subak, in the conditions before planting and after harvest an to show subak contribution to the environment. This study used survey method, physical soil test in the laboratory. The samples were taken by random sampling, from Subak Kerdung, Subak Jatiluwih and Subak Lodtunduh. The soil qualities were assessed using scoring technique based on the physical parameters. The soil physical parameters observed were texture, porosity, field capacity, bulk density and particle density. The result of research showed that the change in soil quality on the subak land was be better. Contribution of subak can be seen from the physical soil parameters, that is increased porosity and decreased bulk density of subak. Subak Jatiluwih in the before planting phased had porosity of 56,27% and then 66,91% after harvest phase. The best change of bulk density in Subak Jatiluwih in the before planting phase is 1,05 g/cm3 and then decreased to 0,92 g/cm3 after harvest phase. Environmental services of subak system is able to maintain and improve the quality of the soil through theability to cultivate the soil.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of a variety of vegetable oil emulsions in water, as a coating material, on the quality and shelf life of tomato fruit (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) at room temperature (27-300C). Oil emulsion treatments in this study were palm oil (E1), sunflower seed oil (E2), sesame oil (E3), and canola oil (E4) emulsions with the same concentration of 0.5%. Additional materials that were used in making emulsion were 1% tween, 0.5% oleic acid and 3% alcohol. For comparison, the separate tomato fruits were coated with Brogdex Wax commercial (E5) with the same concentration as the oil emulsions, and without any coating material as controls (E0). This study used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with three replications. The results showed that the types of oil emulsions as well as brogdex wax and controls significantly affected the shelf life and quality of tomato fruit during storage at room temperature. Coating with sesame oil emulsion (E3) resulted in the highest reduction on the weight change, and intensity of decay, and the change of texture, when compared with controls and Wax Brogdex emulsions during storage at room temperature. While coating with sun flower seed oil emulsion (E2) was the second best in reducing the changes of weight and texture; however, the average of decay intensity was still higher than other oil emulsion treatments.

Abstract

Liquid smoke is an acetic acid (vinegar) which is obtained by pyrolysis of such as wood, coconut shell, palm shells and coconut fibers which are then followed by a condensation process in a water-cooled-condenser. The purpose of this study is to determine yield and characteristics of the liquid smoke produced from the pyrolysis of "Tabah" bamboo stems with different temperature treatments. This study uses "Tabah" bamboo stems that have been cut into 5 cm length. The treatment used 3 kg of "Tabah" bamboo sticks. A tubular pyrolysis reactor with 38 cm in diameter and height of 50 cm was used in this research. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) with 3 different pyrolysis temperature treatments, namely 200 oC, 300 oC and 400 oC. The observed characteristics of liquid smoke were pH, yield, total phenol, total acid and liquid smoke density. Research shows that treatment of pyrolysis temperature affects total yield and total phenol, but has no effect on pH and density of liquid smoke. The highest liquid smoke yield (46.11%) was obtained at pyrolysis temperature of 400 oC (12,354% total acid) but its total acid is lower than of 200 oC which reached 13.774%. However the highest total phenol is producid at pyrolysis temperature of 300 oC (24.19 mg /l)
