Abstract

An acetonitrlie degrading-enzyme of Fusarium solani AIII2 from whole cells were studied. Decrease of acetonitrlie concentration and formation of it's degraded products were determined by gas chromatography. Ammonia analysis was done by Nessler's method. Fusarium solani AIII2 degraded 1% (v/v) acetonitrlie and produced acetic acid and ammonia. Acetonitrlie was degraded by nitrilase, with a rate of 0.903 mol min. mg dry weight cells. Maximum nitrilase activity of fusarium solani AIII2 was observed.

Abstract

Abstract

In order to manage genetic resources for aquaculture development of snakehead fishChannastriata(Bloch, 1793), genetic variability of three populations from different geographical areas is needed to be understood. The purpose of this study was to identify the genotype and fenotype of snakehead fish from Jawa, Sumatera and Kalimantan using RAPD and “Truss” morphometric. RAPD method used OPA-02, OPA-04 and OPA-07 primers. While twenty one measurement of truss morphometric was done on the body of fish observed. The results showed that population from Java had higher percentage of polymorphism and heterozygosity than those of Sumatera and Kalimantan, accounted for 83.33% and 0.3655 respectively. Population from Kalimantan and Sumatera had the lowest genetic distance of 0.1170.Meanwhile,the highest genetic distance (0.1908) was observed between population from Kalimantan and Java.Interpopulation relation based on the similarity of truss morphometric population from Sumatera and Kalimantan was 50%. However, those populations had similarity of 24.96% with population from Java. Coefficient variation of morphometric data showed that variation of population from Kalimantan was higher than those of Jawa and Sumatera.

Abstract

A total of 27 soybean {Glycine max (L.) Merrill} genotypes including check variety (Kawi) were evaluated on dry land at Ngale Experimental Farm, Ngawi, East Java during early rainy season of 2009/2010. The experiment was conducted in a randomized complete block design with three replications. Plot size was 4 m x 5 m, plant spacing was 40cmx20cm, each hill contained two plants. A correlation and path coefficient analyses were used in order to determine the association among characters and quantify the direct and indirect effects of agronomic traits on seed yield. The study has identified 3 varieties, i.e. Kaba, Wilis and Tanggamus produced the highest yield (>1.6 t/ha) and had good adaptation on dry land. Two varieties (Grobogan and Argomulyo) having large seed size (>15 g/100 seeds), and four varieties,i.e. Tidar, Grobogan, Gepak Ijo and SHR-W60 had early maturity (81days). Therefore, these varieties can be used as source of parents on breeding program. Among the agronomic characters, plant height, number of pods per plant and harvest index were positively and significantly correlated with grain yield. The direct effect of plant height, number of pods per plant and harvest index to grain yield as indicated by path coefficient were the highest, while other causal effects to grain yield were small or negative. Based on both analyses, soybean genotypes with high grain yield should have sufficient plant height, high number of pods per plant and high harvest index. Therefore, plant height, number of pods per plant and harvest index can be suggested for selection criteria in selecting high yield soybean genotypes on dry land.

Abstract

The study on the abundance and distribution of three species of botia namely B.hymenophysa Bleeker, B.macracantha (Bleeker,1852)W B.reversa (Roberts,1989) was conducted in Sibau watershed (from June 21 to July 10 1996) and in Embaloh watershed (from November 21 to December 10,1996 and from September 5 to September 25, 1997).It was found that the abundance of each B.hymenophysa, B.macracantha andB.tevctsz was not significant different in these two watershed.Among the fish species collected, these three species of Botia can b categorized as the group offish with low abundance.B.hymenophysa is the most widely distributed fish among three species o/Botia in these two watersheds. In these watersheds, this fish was more distributed in tributary sites than in mainstream sites of Embaloh and Sibau river. On the other hand, the distribution pattern of B.reversa in these watersheds was different. In Sibau watershed, this fish is more distributed in mainstream sites, in Embabh watershed however, this fish was more distributed in tributaries sites. In some localities the distribution of B.hymenophysa and B.reversa are overlaps. In Sibau river, B.macracantha was found both in mainstream sites and its tributary, but in Embabh river, it was found only in a tributary site. It was also found that these three Botia could co-exist with other species.

Abstract

Study of seedling growth was conducted at permanent plot in lowland forest of Gunung Gede Pangrango. The aim of this research was to determine the relationship between growth parameters such as number of seedling leaves, diameter, the depth of soil organic material and tree height of each seedling at the permanent subplot 5 x 5 m.The results showed that basal area, diameter, and the depth of soil organic material did not significantly affect on the number of seedling leaves, whereas basal area and the depth of soil organic material significantly affected on seedling diameter at each permanent subplot 5 x 5 m. For the trees height at the permanent subplot, it did not significantly affected on the number of seedling leaves, diameter, basal area and the depth of soil organic material. Diameter seedling and the depth of soil organic material were suspected as the main factors for the growth parameters of seedling growth in this area.

Abstract

Ants are of high density on the host plant of golden tortoise beetle, Ipomoea carnea, and are being attracted by extrafloral nectaries on petiols. They are important predators of immature stages (eggs, larvae and pupae) of the beetles. The experiment was aimed to know how the golden tortoise beetles defense themselves against ants on I. carnea. The results indicated that golden tortoise beetle, both larvae and adults showed odd habits. They have a specific external organ, a protective camouflage with excreta of the larvae and oviposition strategy. The ant-beetle interaction on the host plants are discussed.
