Abstract

MAMAN RAHMANSYAH, 1989,Comparative capability of cellulose degradation by Basidiomy cetes fungi.Berita Biologi 3(9) 450 - 453.Cellulosa is natural resource that still found abandon and its can be composted by themselves naturaly to the earth.Basidiomycetes fungi offered to convert those waste organic matter into useful product.Four Basidiomycetes fungi (Auricularia polytricha, Coprinus cinereus, Pleurotus qstreatus and Volvariella valcacea) have been tested to degrade riee straw, Whatman filter paper and cellulose powder. Three replicates of 3 grams of media were inoculated by different fungus land were fermented for 21 days at room temperature (± 28 C). Biodegradation rare was measured by the lost weight basis of media and bioconvertion rate was detected by stating ability of enzime (cellulose), which were extracted from cellulose powder culture,to convert CMC substrat and glucose production.The result shows that C. cinereus has almost 3 to 4 times degrading and converting capability compared to other fungi.

Abstract

Talas {Colocasia esculenta (L.) Schott} and Iles-iles (Amorphophalus campanulatus Blumei) have been used as source of carbohydrate especially in tropical regions, mainly in East Indonesia. Talas and iles-iles, that contains carbohydrate and several substances for instance glucomannan would form viscous liquid and were used as emulgator, capsule cosmetics and dietary.The research was conducted to separate glucomannan from starch of talas and iles-iles fresh and dry (powder).The methods base on speed of revolution (centrifuge) in 5000 to 19000 rpm and the duration of rotation was 10 to 40 minutes and the filtrate was precipitated by using several alcohols (methanol, ethanol, propanol, isopropanol and isobutanol). The results showed that speed of rotation 17 x 1000 rpm with 10 minutes rotation resulted in good glucomannan separation from starch.Ethanol and isopropanol were the best solvent to separate glucomanan from dissolved starch in the filtrate with ratio 2 : 3 and for dry material, and the maximal agitation reached after 2 hours. Glucomannan content on fresh material was higher than as in talas (4.08 %) and iles-iles (5.64 %), compared to these in powder (dried) of talas (3.87 %) and iles-iles (5.41 %). The purerity of isolated glucomannan was higher compared to control.

Abstract

Program on the ability of agriculture to provide rice as a staple food tends to decrease with the reduced land area used for rice cultivation. improvement rice production should be directed to use  marginal land  as dry and acid land, where poisoning aluminium was seen as a constrain factor. Development of Aluminium (Al) tolerant variety is needed to increase rice production. This technology was environmentally friendly, cheaper and also easier for farmers adopted. The rice lines with broad genetics background which tolerant to Al toxicity has been produced by breeding program. The diversity of Indonesian local rice germplasm is a basic foundation on development of Al toxicity tolerant rice varieties. The purpose of this research was to analyze the genotype variety using 384 SNPs markers on selected Al tolerant rice lines based on bioinformatics approach. Based on the 384 SNPs markers, the total 26 selected  genotypes were clustered into 5 groups. Each group was having varied Relative Root Length (RRL), which was an Al tolerant parameter of phenotype. These groups were indicated for having different genes or QTL that were related to the Al tolerant character. The association analysis obtained 9 significant SNPs markers that can be applied as the molecular markers for assisting selection in breeding  program.

Abstract

W A. NOERDJITO&M.AMIR.1986.wood boring beetle of some leguminosae timbers.Berita Biologi 3(4): 159-162.At least 8 families of wood boring beetles were observed to cuse a damage on some leguminous timbers belong to the genus of Bauhinia,Albizia , Acacia,Sesbania,Erythrina and Glericida.They were namely Scolytidae(5Species),Platypodidae(4 species),Boctrychidae(6 species),Elateridae(1 species),Tenebrionidae(4 species),Erotylidae(1 species),Lucanidae(1 species) and Cetonidae(1 species).Hostplant selection of the beetles seemed to be determined by the timber species,as well as their state of decompositions.

Abstract

Attacus atlas are insects producing silk materials having high economic value. It lives from South East Asia, almost all Indonesia until Australia.The demand of silk from Attacus atlas is quite high (10 tons/month). The A. atlas silk is very exclusive, with permanent in variety colors from light to dark brown. At present, to response the high demand, the people get cocoons from nature. This action could reduce result, and the scarcity of the insect. Beside that, rearing was done by placing the larvae on the trees (outdoor rearing). The outdoor rearing resulted in high mortality because of predators or stress. Better rearing is conducted by indoor rearing, that resulted in high survival rate, and high cocoon or egg production. It is because indoor rearing was supported in better environmental condition than outdoor condition that support physiological process eficiently.

Abstract

The diversity of land snail in Sumatra, Indonesia was firstly studied by Bock (1881), followed by some comprehensive studies by Degner (1928), Van Benthem Jutting (1959), and recently by Marwoto (2016). This research aimed to update the data on diversity and distribution of those two families, documenting new information on their distribution, make historical records of species occurrence, list species occurrence from inside and outside the conservation area. We collected primary data from 274 numbers of museum collections and secondary data from 29 literatures. In total, 58 species of Camaenidae and 66 species of Cyclophoridae were known from Sumatra. Fourteen land snail species, seven from family Camaenidae and seven from family Cyclophoridae, were added to the previous list of land snail species in Sumatra. There were 30 land snail species with new distribution ranges.

Abstract

Activated sludge originated from anaerobic-aerobic process waste water treatment plan was acclimated with glucose and acetate.The experiment was conducted in 1 L working volume of sequential batch reactor (SBR) that was adjusted to 0, 25 kg m day.Glucose was effectively utilized by microbial community in anaerobic condition, and glycogen synthesis was occurred in aerobic condition.Suppression of polyphosphate accumulating organism was caused by the domination of glycogen accumulating organism and the high of nitrate production. In order to accelerate the community polyphosphate accumulating organisms then to the competitor of these communities must be pressured.

Abstract

Analysis of genetic variance, heritability and coefficient of genetic variance were carried out for seven characters of soybean mutant lines in M3 generation, which were conducted at CAIR-Field Station, Pasar Jumat, Jakarta.Results showed that the highest of heritability value about 85.50% was obtained for seed weight, and followed by number of pods,biomass of stem and shelpedpods, root/stem ratio, seed weight/ Zpods ratio, and the lowest heritability value was biomass of root around 26,83% Analysis of coefficient of genetic variance from seven characters of soybean mutants indicated value ranging from 10.00-39,50%.From the result of experiment can be concluded that gamma irradiation produced high genetic variability in M3 generation and contributed positively for crops improvement through breeding programme

Abstract

The golden apple snail Pomacea is an invasive species not only in Indonesia but mostly in Southeast Asia. The snail caused serious damaged on more than thousands hectares of rice-fields. The study was based on the specimens deposited at the Museum Zoologicum Bogoriense (MZB)aimed to evaluate the occurrence of Pomacea and its distribution in Indonesia.Based on the shell characters there are four species recognized which are P. canaliculata, P.insularum, P. scalaris, P.paludosa that found from many places, and noted that P. canaliculata has wider distribution from Sumatra to Papua. The description of each species was presented at this paper as well as the map of the occurrence of Pomacea in Indonesia.
