Abstract

ABSTRACTPeople in Ngadas Village have enough time to live in their fields. Therefore, the community build farmhouses to help farming activities. However, as an agricultural landscape, cultivation in Ngadas Village has various dynamics. Changes that occur in the agricultural landscape can be traced through agricultural features formed by the type of agricultural land use. In addition, it can be traced through cultural features that are the result of interactions between human activities and the environment such as farmhouses. Therefore, this study aims to find out the implications of agricultural features on cultural features, especially space in farmhouses. The in-depth interview and observation methods were conducted to identify, then the data obtained were analysed by synchronous and diachronic methods. So, the changes that occur can be determined descriptively. The results of the study show that the culture of shifting cultivation that has become permanent causes the fields to develop along with the changes in the plants that have been planted, the addition of activities and intensity of plant management. More fixed location of the farm more developed and permanent farmhouses has been built. More activities carried out in the fields and the higher intensity of plant management, the wider and more space needed for the fields. Keywords: Agrarian culture, Agricultural landscape, Farmhouses

Abstract

AbstractIn traditional societies, it is not too difficult to integrate the style and symbols of a house because they have a common language of the same yet mutually understandable style. However, this can not be applied nowadays with the development of pluralistic cultures encountered by Betawi people. Semiotic enables community to reflect on various related issues in the form of architecture and spatial arrangement. This research was conducted to obtain information that will be used to complement semiotics analytical methods. Field data collection methods are done both visually through recording of buildings and orally through interviewing some of the residents. This research uses semiotics analysis model derived from Ferdinand de Saussure which was adapted by Charles Peirce and used by Charles Jencks. Semiotics discussion on the style of Betawi house at Setu Babakan area consists of four major parts: building orientation, zoning, building typology, and building ornament. The result of this study confirms that there are several changes on the four major parts to support the shift of the village into a cultural village. These changes represent the sign of adaptability of the community to support the preservation and maintenance of Betawi house in this cultural village. Keywords: style and symbol, vernacular architecture, Betawi traditional house

Abstract

ABSTRACT In DKI Jakarta, the quantity and quality of public parks need to be increased since they are not well cared of as most public spaces which resulted in the absence of visitors. Hypotheses arise that this condition may be related to inaccurate public park management. This paper is an attempt to acquire a conceptual framework related to competency requirements needed in designing public parks that focus on Soft System Methodology and Resource Management. This is a literature study coupled with interviews with those who are involved in the provision and use of public parks. Through Delphi's analysis, it reveales that a successful design of public park entails non-technical competency requirements related to "building relationships" involved with all parties integrated. Abstract

ABSTRACTThe objective of this study is to clarify the connectivity: spatial and physical patterns of Banjarese Kampungs in South Kalimantan river networks for the community of Rumah Bubungan Tinggi (RBT) or high ridge houses. It provides a basis for potential reconstructing a Banjarese Kampung in keeping with the sociocultural context. We investigated a total of an urban kampung (177 households) and 12 RBT groups (4 RBTs groups in 1 urban kampung and 8 RBT groups in 2 rural kampungs). We describe the development of kampung throughout the evolution of river networks, then analyze the formation of dwelling in the urban kampung and the changing of spatial composition in the kin-group. The discussion on the evolution river network is based on the reconstruction of waterway patterns from the 15th until the mid 20th century. Finally, the kinship interaction reveals the open-ended multifamily boundaries and the changing level of house connectivity such as rival kin-groupKeywords: Rumah Bubungan Tinggi (RBT) groups, kampung, connectivity, spatial composition, South Kalimantan

Abstract

AbstractGenerally, the reality of empirical experience is used as a reference in the settlement spatial arrangement. In this study, however, the form of myth and imagination affects spatial arrangement and environmental conservation. Spatial arrangement of settlements in Kampung Kuta, Ciamis, West Java is based on historical imaginative mythical thoughts of the past about the Idea of Keraton Wurung. The thought has positively impacted on the sustainability of environmental preservation in the present. The study was conducted based on qualitative-explorative approach by interviewing some key informants of local population. In terms of verification, the findings are being compared among the concept of spatial layout of current Kampung Adat Kuta and the general settlement theory as well as the concept of kampung in Priangan of the myth-imaginative-based spatial concept. The findings of the study suggest that conservation measures are based on the respect of the sacred imaginative of the palace and the ancepan that are considered as the important components of the palace and need to be maintained its sustainability. The control of human behavior in conservation efforts refers to: prohibitions and obligations to maintain harmony by considering the arrangements of ancient, balance, and management of natural resources that ensure the sustainability of life. Keywords:  imaginary-myth, Kampung Adat Kuta, environmental preservation.

Abstract

AbstractA roof should be able to prevent and reduce the radiation heat. It is more recommended if it gives a good effect in both prevention and reduction of heat. Through this research, the author wanted to know the influence of the roof covering material to gable roof style towards the climate parameters, such as temperature of humidity and heat radiation. Gable roof style is considered as more effective rather than others traditional roof style. The ability of heat reduction and humidity performances of the gable roof was tested by using Asbestos, Roof Tiles, Metal deck, and Green Roof covering material to RumahInstanSederhanaSehat (RISHA) in Centre for Housing Research and Development (PuslitbangPermukiman), Bandung. The variations of ceiling and non-ceiling were applied for knowing the result specifically in terms of the level of humidity and temperature in the room. By using quantitative descriptive method, Metal deck gave the fastest effect towards the temperature reduction, while Roof Tiles gave the best effect by using ceiling, and Green Roof gave the best effect by not using ceiling. Humidity aspect that gave the best effect occurred when using ceiling, either when using ceiling or not. Meanwhile, the lowest humidity happened when using Asbestos and Green Roof material. In the ability to reduce heat radiation, Green Roof had the best ability in reducing the heat or had worst ability in heat radiation, followed by Metal deck. Meanwhile, Asbestos covering material had the best heat radiation ability. Keywords: Roof Covering Material, Gable Roof Model, Climate (temperature, humidity, and heat radiation).

Abstract

ABSTRACT As the population grows, the development of the city increases, as a result the movement of transportation also increases. The development of the city can also affect a decrease in green open space. Increased vehicle traffic affects the increase in air pollution. Hence, there is very little research that mathematically connects the influence of traffic volume (passenger car units) and green open space with the level of air pollution. Green open space and the level of air pollution are directly measured on the field. Subsequently, the measurement is calculated by using the regression analysis to obtain a model of the relationship between green open space and traffic volume with the level of air pollution. The research was directly conducted at 3 locations, 2 locations in Jakarta (Semanggi and Tanah Kusir) and 1 location in South Tangerang. This model can be applied to predict that air pollution will occur as a result of traffic volume and the availability of green open space. Abstract

ABSTRACT Placemaking in pedestrian ways of a commercial area has its own characteristics, especially between central mode of transportation and shopping center. The area between Tanah Abang Station and “Blok A” Tanah Abang Market is bustling with variety of activities, especially temporary commercial activities by street vendors and hawkers as a form of placemaking. This paper explores the relationship between road dimensions and pedestrian intensity of placemaking that occurs along the pedestrian ways between the station and Blok A of The Market. The research method used is mixed method of quantitative data processing and qualitative analysis. Variables used include the dimensions of the pedestrian ways and pedestrian intensity on the path. Pedestrian ways’ dimensions cover the width and length of the pathway. Pedestrian intensity is measured by the amount, speed, and space of the pedestrian. Case studies include pedestrian ways on four streets, namely the Streets of Jatibaru Raya, Kebon Jati, Jatibaru 2, and Jatibaru 10. The results of the study show that all four streets have similar placemaking although they differ in dimensions and intensity. This shows the relationship between the dimensions of the road with the intensity of the road and it does affect the formation of place/placemaking. The narrower the width of the road and the shorter the length of the road, the higher the intensity of pedestrians, which is an indicator of the formation of placemaking in the pedestrian ways of Tanah Abang. Abstract

ABSTRACT Environmental behavior studies discuss the relationship between environment and the behavior of its users, namely humans. The human response to the physical character of the environment is divided into invisible and visible aspects. Cognitive aspects are invisible response that rarely got attention. Meanwhile, place preference study may result in desirable physical setting. The embodiment of place preferences is a favorite place. Favorite place is a place with higher preference for each person. This article will discuss cognitive responses on favorite place so the result can complement the knowledge about response-based design. Finding cognitive response on favorite place can be achieved using quantitative methods. The data then analyzed using distribution, analysis of variance (ANOVA) and factor analysis. The respondents are Indonesian young adults aged 18-40 years old. The most favorite place of this age group are culinary place, urban commercial, and marine tourism objects. Meanwhile cognitive response that arise on favorite place are hospitality and togetherness. There are five latent variables of cognitive that is environmental experience, social affordance, ecological quality, personal interests, and urban quality Keywords: cognitive response; environmental behavior; favorite place
