The Journal invites original research articles and not simultaneously submitted to another journal or conference. The whole spectrum of research in mathematics education are welcome, which includes, but is not limited to the following topics: Design/Development Research in Mathematics Education Educational design research is perceived as the systematic study of designing, developing and evaluating educational interventions (programs, teaching-learning strategies, and materials, products, systems) as solutions to such problems. It also aims at advancing our knowledge about the characteristics of these interventions and the processes to design and develop them. Authors could submit their work, either a validation study or a development study in mathematics education, with a comprehensive description and analysis of every stage. Mathematics Ability Mathematics ability refers to the ability (a human construct) to obtain, to process, and to retain mathematical information (cognitive) and to solve mathematics problems (pragmatic). To maintain the focus of this journal, the scope of mathematics ability includes the following abilities: reasoning, connection, communication, representation, and problem-solving. A paper is eligible for this topic if it comprehensively discusses those abilities. Affects in Mathematics Teaching and Learning The scope deals with a basic question, how mathematics-related affects contribute to the teaching and learning of mathematics? The affects in mathematics education can be various topics such as application of models and approaches mathematics learning, beliefs, emotions, self-efficacy, confidence, motivations, identity, mathematics anxiety, etc. ICT in Mathematics Education The advance of information and communication technology (ICT) has been the concern of all human life, including in education. When all students use technology, education must be the first one to utilize it for the sake of effectiveness and attractiveness.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis study aims to examine the implementation of problem solving approach in achieving the ability of creative thinking and students' habits of mind. This quasi-experimental study took all of students in one private of MTs in Purwasari-Karawang as population. Two classes of experiment class (problem solving approach) were selected for 28 students, and control class (conventional learning) of 30 students. Quantitative data analysis uses SPSS 17 for windows. The results showed that the the implementation of mathematics learning process with problem solving approach is quite effective. The achievement of students' mathematical creative thinking ability using problem solving approach is not better than students who use conventional learning. There is no difference in the ability of mathematical creative thinking as well as students' thinking habits in both learning groups.Keyword:  Problem Solving approach, The Ability of Creative Thinking Mathematically, and Habits of Mind

Abstract

The level of student ability in solving economic math problems is very less. Though very crucial understanding to learn the application of mathematics in economic problems. The purpose of this research is to know the application of problem-based learning model which is applied in the lecture of economic mathematics to the understanding of student learning. The method used is quasi-experiment pre-test design post-test control group design with data collection using test and attitude questionnaire. Samples were 30 students of experimental class and 31 students of the control class. The findings indicate that problem-based learning (experimental class) is better than the expository (class of control) on understanding in economic mathematics learning. Not only that, students in the experimental group show a positive attitude toward the learning of economic mathematics. The findings of this study have implications for encouraging lecturers learn how to understand environmental mathematics. Keywords:  Problem-Based Learning, Understanding, Attitude.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the improvement of statistical reasoning ability of students who take the course of industry-based statistics eksperiential learning. This study is a quasi-experimental study, in which there are two classes. One class as an experimental class that accepts experiential learning learning and a control class as a comparative class. The population of this study is industrial engineering students, with samples of industrial engineering students who contract industrial statistics courses. By using lecture syntax consisting of stages of concrete experience, reflective observation, abstract conceptualization and active experimentation. At the beginning and end of the study students are given a statistical skills reasoning test. The data obtained were analyzed quantitatively. Abstract

The students’ mathematical literacy is a students’ skill in mathematics that become the initial support to enhance several potential cognitive skill i.e. analysis, synthesis, evaluation and students’ decision making in mathematics. The purpose of this study was to identify mathematical literacy aspects that develops in the students’ problem solving process. Participants of this study were 50 students in Calculus class at Universitas Serang Raya. The mathematical literacy aspects used is the relationship between the mathematical process (3 categories) and the basic mathematics skill (7 categories). The identification of a number variables of mathematical literacy that developed in the students’ problem solving process traced by confirmatory factor analysis. The analytical procedure obtained that three factors of mathematical literacy that supported the development of students’ problem solving work namely reasoning, devising strategies and mathematising. The dominant factor that provides a huge impact is the reasoning with the diversity data fairly accurate 74,31%. These results can be taken into consideration in preparing instructional and evaluations materials particularly in Calculus and as a reference analysis as well to similar aspects for other sciences course. Keywords: Confirmatory Factor, Factor Analysis, Mathematical Literacy, Problem Solving

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out which results in learning outcomes better in math between the model of Group InvestigationGroup Investigation model with Assessment for Learning(AfL), or direct learning model in the subject of Kapita Selekta Matematika SD. Research methodology in this research was quasi experimental research.Population in this research was all students of Mathematics Education of Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher of UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung Academic Year 2016/2017. While the samples of this study were students of Mathematics Education in first semester consisting of 3 classes with total respondents 117 students. The data collection used the test method in the form of multiple choices of 20 items. Prerequisite test included normality test population using method ofLilliefors and homogeneity of the population variance using Bartlett method. With α = 0.05, it can be concluded that the sample was from a normally distributed population and has the same variance.Analysis of data using one way analysis of variance with different cells, followed by a multiple comparison test using Scheffe method.Based on the results, it can be concluded that the model group investigation with the AfL results mathematics learningbetter than the model group investigation, a model group investigation with the AFL yield better mathematics learning than direct instructional model, and the model group investigation yield mathematics learning better than the direct learning model. Keywords: Group Investigation, Assessment For Learning, Learning Model, Learning Outcomes

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of problem-based learning model in terms of the ability to think critically and mathematical representation of grade VIII students at a State Junior High School in Bandarlampung City. The population in this study are all students of class VIII distributed in eleven classes. The samples of this study are the students of two classes VIII whose class is selected by purposive random sampling technique. The research design is Pre-test Post-test Control Group Design. Mann-Whitney U non parametric test results on critical thinking and mathematical representation, indicating that H0 is rejected, thus drawn the conclusion that mathematical critical thinking and mathematical representation of students who follow PBL is higher than mathematical critical thinking and mathematical representation of students following learning conventional. The proportion test shows that the percentage of students who have critical thinking skills and mathematical representations are categorized well in the class using the PBL more than 60% of the number of students. The result of the research shows that learning with effective PBL model is viewed from critical thinking ability and student's mathematical representation Keywords:  Problem Based Learning, Critical thinking, Mathematical Representation
