Abstract

Existing beaches in Badung (Kuta, Legian, Nusa Dua, Jimbaran, Tanjung Benoa and Canggu) is a beach full of tourism activities (hotel, restaurant and nautical sports facilities) and other activities. The presence of waste that is not managed well will greatly contribute to the decline in the quality of waters. Results of analysis by in-situ and laboratory in the wet season and dry in 2008 and 2009 ie from 19 parameters analyzed physic, chemical and microbiological, there is 8 parameters has exceeded the maximum threshold for designation as a marine tourism in accordance with Governor’s Rule of Bali No. 7 in 2007. Seawater quality parameters that exceed the Environmental Quality Standards is DO, BOD5, NO3, NH3, phenol, phosphate, cadmium (Cd) and Plumbum (Pb). The results on the quality of coastal waters are four beaches (Kuta, Legian, Nusa Dua and Jimbaran) are classified as low polluted, and two beaches (Tanjung Benoa and Canggu) is classified as middle polluted. The research concluded that in general the water quality at six beaches in Badung in 2008 and 2009 is still worth utilized for the purposes of maritime tourism.

Abstract

Habitat fragmentation causes genetic isolation that would reduce biodiversity in the forest. PT Swakarsa Group has a 12 blocks of conservation area which are separated by the palm oil plantations. Each of conservation has a variety of environmental characteristics. Strategies to cope the impact of habitat fragmentation on this plantation are habitat corridors development. This study aims to design of vegetation corridors to support the conservation value in the palm ??oil plantations. Vegetations were observed by nested sampling system, plot 20mx20m (for trees) and 2mx2m plot (shrubs) were placed along transects. Conservation value was measured based on the conservation status of bird species and frequency of attendance. Bird assemblages were estimated by point counts. Corridor design was determined based on the USDA NRCS, while the vegetation compositions were determined under the provisions of MacGowan. There were two types of corridors that can be applied in the plantation areas; remnant corridors and introduction corridors. There were two main locations that need to be created corridors to enhance biodiversity conservation in the PT Swakarsa Group. Block VI and Block VIII were the core conservation area where contained more genetic resources need to be linked to other blocks. Remnant corridors could be built in the area along the river and banks of ponds. While introduction corridors were recommended to place on the edge of the road.

Abstract

This paper describes how the attitude and behavior of Balinese teachers toward thenatural world and its conservation, mainly wild animal. For this purpose, we conductedsurvey using a combination of open and closed-ended questions of high and middle schoolteachers at eight regency/city in Bali. There were three main topics in this survey, i.e. attitudetoward wild animal, attitude about management of wild animal and behavior toward wildanimal. The results was indicated that Balinese teacher appreciation toward wild animalvery high in natural-aesthetic, habitat-ecologistic, and consumption but lacking scientisticperspective. Concerning of wildlife conservation, we found a majority of the teacherssupported development projects if relatively significant human benefits were provided, andregardless of its impact on the rarely or endangered animals. The behavior of more thanone-half Balinese teachers showed strong affection for particularly favored wild animal, especially various species of birds. On the other hand, around three-fourth of the teachersdid not participate in activity of environmental conservation since last two years.

Abstract

The utilization of non-timber forest products of mangrove palm (Nypa fruticans Wurmb) ofsap produced through the process of tapping,  is still made   by the traditional way with theamount of sap production is still small or limited for consumption purposes. Sap whichcontains sugar has a potency to be fermented  into ethanol which is a source of greenenergy. The problem is the amount of available sap as raw material obtained by traditionaltapping is still limited, therefore, more efforts to increase productivity are needed. Thepurpose of this study was to explore several methods of tapping palm from traditional waytowards  non-conventional technologies. This study used an experimental method examiningseveral factors including 1) Duration of pre-tap (10 days, 20 days, 30 days) 2). Pre-tappingstimulation (without and with stimulation) 3) Type of container (non-vacuum container(traditional), 1.5 L small vacuum container, 2L medium vacuum container  and 20L largevacuum containers). 4) The level of luxuriance palm leaf midrib (not dense 0-2 midrib, lessdense 3-4 midrib and dense > 4 midrib). Observed variables are sap volumes include volumesof palm sap/stem, sugar, tapping duration/stem. The result obtained from tapping processon mangrove forest in Lubuk Muda Village, Siak Kecil District, Bengkalis Regency RiauProvince showed that optimal productivity were obtained on 1). Pre-tapping stimulationat 30 days. 2) Treatment with pre-tapping stimulation. 3) Harvesting on the medium vacuumcontainer and 4) found in dense leaf midrib.

Abstract

The study aimed to discuss the characteristic and environmental wisdom of the sacred Cultural Landscape of Catur Angga Batukaru temples in the conservation of natural resources in the regency of Tabanan-Bali. To reveal the research problems, data collection was conducted through observation, in-depth interview, and document study. The collected data were analyzed by the descriptive-qualitative technique. The results showed the structure of cultural landscape of Catur Angga Batukaru Temple consists of five cultural heritages as single vortices (sacred cultural landscape). The Batukaru Temple as a center with two main segments as subordinates, on west side, consists of Muncaksari and Tambawaras Temple, and on east side, consists of Petali and Besi Kalung Temple. Each unit managed by local communities generally comes from the Bali Age people. The management consists of the pengempon’s group temple, the institution of traditional villages, and subak's in the surrounding. As a living monument (temple), functioned as a sacred place to invoke safety, agricultural fertility, health, peace, and political stability. Similarly, through myth, ritual, and emission values the sanctity of the magical-religious, its cultural landscape located in the upstream region indirectly contribute very important to the conservation of the natural environment. As well as, the ritual uniqueness and aesthetic architectural values and beauty of the natural environment are so potential to be developed as a tourist attraction. In the modern era, in environmental degradation, it's very important to improve the welfare of local communities and conserving the natural environment in the context of sustainable development in Tabanan-Bali.

Abstract

The goal of research was to study alternative ways in order to increase farmers\' income, environment saving efforts in the agricultural sector, diversification of products and also to offer tourist destination. These Objectives are very important since the interest of people on agricultural economical efforts have being reduced, especially the young generation to pursue agricultural business which is inherited from generation to generation. In addition to maintain environmental quality, especially the agricultural sector which grew more and more switching functions, and to provide an alternative model of farming that has to do with tourism businesses to avoid saturation due to recent tourist products related to the needs of nature become a priorities. The results of the study showed that based on the potential relevant models, to stimulate the agricultural sector, together with efforts to maintain environmental quality, and progress associated with the tourism sector is to develop agro tourism. Many models can be developed both in the context of the open or closed nature tourism, as well as natural or artificial contexts. In order to bring in the expected goal, it is necessary to increase the quantity and quality related to human resources, infrastructure, financing and the commitment of the entire society with the government to develop agro-tourism.

Abstract

Perception could potentially groups the farmers. It is interpreted as a communication process whereas the information transferred is influenced by time. The purpose of the research is to make the forest management more efficiently by finding out the farmer’s perception level and its distribution in Ciamis Regency on the management and the function of privately owned forest. Research was conducted between April to July 2010 at four villages i.e. Ciomas, Neglasari, Kertaharja, Kalijaya in the four districts that are Panjalu, Pamarican, Banjarsari, and Cimerak respectively, which represent the landscape of Ciamis regency. Stratified random sampling was fitted to define the samples and interview using questionnaires involved 20 respondents each village. The result showed that the farmer’s perception on management and function of the forests was very positive, and tends to form the homogenous type. Therefore, the privately owned forest management in the future is getting better and the government should respond it by actively socialize programs to the farmers, involve them in the program building, and advocate the farmers side by side to make the policy generated fit with farmers characters and rationally implemented.

Abstract

AbstractLake Singkarak is one of natural resources and environmental which is important for human life. Itis located in West Sumatera Province, with area of 11220 km2 and 136 m depth. Until 2000, therewere no studies about the total economic value of lake Singkarak resource. That is the reasonwhy the researcher wants to conduct a research to estimate the use value and non-use valueof it. In order to quantify the value above, he used some approaches that based on theconcept of individual willingness to pay, by using the framework of the total economic value. The study shows that total economic value of natural resources and environmental of Singkaraklake is Rp. 174.950 billion per year. It consists of (a) the economic value of fishery Rp. 7,328billion, (b) the economic value of irrigation Rp. 0, 775 billion, (c) the economic value ofrecreation Rp. 4,176 billion, (d) the economic value of domestic use Rp. 7,718 billion, and (e)the the economic value of electricity power Rp. 154,992 billion. These findings are usefull forthe government as the policy maker to manage the development of lake Singkarak’s naturalresources and its environmental efectively and sustainability.
