Abstract

A study on identification of trees species, their use as well as what the communitybelieve about them held in Peliatan Village, Ubud District, Gianyar Regency (Bali) onFebruary, 2005. The study was carried out by taking a walk along the roads or trails whichwere assessed for their potentials as tracking trails in this village while taking notes on thetree species observed. The trees then were determined their status, their use as well as whatthe community believe about them. Results of this study show that there were 148 kinds oftrees which have been identified on this village. From the use perspective, it was revealedthat these trees could give a wide range of benefits for the community of Peliatan as well asBali in general. Their use for decorations, provides shady spots, as well as uncultivated treeswere the highest in their proportion (22%). In addition, in this village they were alsoidentified 18% of trees which believed to provide a possitive or negative impacts to humans. Most of them (73%) were believed to be related to positive impacts to humans.

Abstract

To inhabit the earth is a blessing and a responsibility that given by The Almighty God to us as human beings. Accordingly, this paper explores deep thoughts which was necessary to be understood by human who exist on earth. An ethical based behavior and an understanding about thoughts which potentially change natural environment to artificial one was becoming significant to be investigated for the sake of human being in general. When there was a development conducted on one area, it would cause some impacts which should previously cautiously calculate. The impacts would affect far in the future, so the area as an architectural creation should had some thoughtful aspects inside its development. Therefore, the architectural design would also maintained and made plan for an steady environment which would keep the city away from floods or any other disasters.

Abstract

AbstractSimple approach to estimate watershed runoff coefficient value is needed model to forecastproblem of demage and watershed and hydrology data problem. Have happened degradationof energy support in Riam Kanan Sub Watershed which critical of landcover impact. This research aims are to estimation surface runoff and distribution in Watershed of RiamKanan based on Landsat7 ETM+ Imagery. The Research found that the accuracy testusing Landsat7 ETM+ image aqual to 87 %, indicates that it has a high accuration todetect of landcover. The results of overlay raster data from landcover parameter was obtainedby distribution pattern of runoff coefficient dominated normal class aqual to 61,94 percent, low class aqual to 0,53 percent and high class aqual to 78,14 percent distributed at upstream and middle of Riam Kanan Sub Watershed. Result of statistical test indicated thatresult of C estimation do not different with result of C actual at significant 95% withenough, mean accuration equal to 78,14 %.

Abstract

This study was aimed to evaluate the characteristic and prospect of lignocelluloses waste material, i.e. mixtured wood sawdust as matrix in composting human excreta using Biotoilet. Initially, 26.4 kg mixtured wood sawdust (+4/-32 mesh) moisture 11.84% was filled into Biotoilet chamber, and added with 20L tap water to achieve ±50% moisture. Mixer in Biotoilet was adjusted to run-on intermittently with interval 15 min, each for 2 min, i.e. 1 min to clockwise and counter-clockwise, respectively. Exhaust fan with flow rate of 0.04m3.sec-1 was operated continuously to ensure proper aeration. Human excreta were loaded daily to Biotoilet chamber for 90 days which would be composted. Data showed that temperature of composting system was 25.70-43.67oC. Moisture was 22.27-53.20% and pH 6.20-7.00. C/N ratio composted residual sawdust was 25:1. Ash, N, P, and K content were 11.78; 1.78; 0.85; and 0.95%, respectively. Bad odor was not created during composting. It was concluded mixtured wood sawdust could be used as matrix for composting human excreta. The compost could be categorized into Class-A that safe for food and non-food plant. Application of mixture wood sawdust as matrix in Biotoilet for composting human excreta could improve sanitation, prevent water degradation, at once increase soil quality for agricultural.

Abstract

As a built environment, architecture had faced the challenges that must be answered in 21st century. The most ever whelmingly urgent crisis facing mankind is the degradation of the natural environment. The fragility of the natural environment comes to the fore as a compelling principle for the revitalization of architecture. This study intended to formulate theory or principle that leads architecture to faced the challenge. This is a library research, with logical argumentation & critical methods and Jurgen Habermas strategy. The result hope to be a theoretical alternative in architecture, especially for revitalization in nature and architecture.

Abstract

The study examined the environmental quality of Teluk Terima coastal area. The aimsof the study were to measure the degree of water pollution at Teluk Terima coastal arearesulted from tourism, human and agricultural activities, and to analyze physical andchemical properties of water, which affected diversity index of makrozoobenthos. The research applied analytical descriptive method. Samples were determined usingpurposive sampling, collected from 9 stations and replicated three times. Water quality wasdetermined by scoring and t test to calculate differences in pollution level among stations, and multiple regression test was used to calculate effects of physical and chemical propertiesof water on diversity index of makrozoobenthos. The results of the experiment showed that three parameters of water quality exceededthe threshold level, namely: suspended solids, clearness, and nitrite. The dominant substratewas consisted of sand (80.58% - 96.28%) with low value of clay (1.24% - 9.06%). About 27species of benthos (Gastropoda, Pelecypoda and Polychaeta) were examined. Substrate thatcontained more clay was dominated by Nereis sp, Nephtys sp and Polyphysia sp. withabundance of 101 ind/192,5 cm2, while at the more sandy area was dominated by Nerita sp.at abundance of 24 ind/192,5 cm2. The diversity index of makrozoobenthos was between1.059 – 1.885. The result on the integrated water quality analyses showed that the waterquality of Teluk Terima coastal area was classified between slight to moderate pollution.Multivariate regression analyses showed that the physical and chemical properties of waterdid not have a significant correlation and its effect was not significant on the diversity indexof makrozoobenthos.

Abstract

The experiment was conducted at residential areas Sirimau forest with three sampling methods, which were hand collecting, bait trap (sugar and tuna) and pitfall traps from July to September2011. The study aims to determine diversity of ants in residential areas in Ambon SirimauProtected Forest areas. The results of study found 16 species of ants in total reaching 14.913.The most dominant types are Odontoponera denticulata, Pheidole megacephala,Technomyrmex albipes, Tetramorium simillimum, Tetramorium bicarinatum, Tapinomamelanocephalum, Paratrechina longicornis and Anoplolepis gracilipes. Total diversity ofants is 2.789 classified as moderate by spread of number of individual spread and of communitystability. The diversity of ants is strongly influenced by light intensity, temperature, humidity, wind, water and season. Difference of temperature micro, light climate, humidit, interspecificcompetition, availability of variety of food sources, habitat quality and human activities alsoaffect the diversity of ants. Another finding showed invasive ants, they were Soleonopsisgeminate, Paratrechina longicornis and Anoplolepis gracilipes.

Abstract

Various environmental problems occur due to human behavior. This behavior is influenced by the way a person views his environment. The perspective is influenced by the values ??believed. Inappropriate behavior and low morale in managing the environment will cause damage. For this reason, a concept of human leadership is needed for nature which can be used as a guide for environmental management. This article aims to examine the concept of khalîfah fî al-ard in environmental ethics perspective. This article is the result of an in-depth study of relevant libraries. This article argues that the concept of khalîfah fî al-ard originating from the Qur'an is very relevant to environmental ethics biosentrism and ecocentrism. The concept of khalîfah fî al-ard which is interpreted as the representative of Allah on earth should be a human starting point in managing and maintaining the environment, so that this concept is one of the strategic means of structuring and maintaining the environment. The concept of khalîfah fî al-ard can be realized into a pro-environment movement. It is very important for us as Muslims to understand the essential meaning of ourselves as khalîfah fî al-ard who cares the earth from damage.
