Abstract

This study discusses the art forms in Toraja cultural rituals, which are more precisely held in Lembang Gandangbatu, Gandangbatu Sillanan District. The ritual is called Ma'bulle Tomate. The Ma'bulle Tomate ritual is an activity of carrying the corpse to the burial place. The community performs the Ma'bulle Tomate ritual while singing a spiritual song called Penanian Dolo. This study aims to reveal the structure of the Penanian Dolo musical composition entitled Ia Ke Ka'tumo tu Sunga'ku as one of the songs in the funeral ritual. This research is qualitative research using musicology and sociology approaches. It was conducted in Lembang Gandangbatu, Gandangbatu Sillanan District, Tana Toraja Regency. Data was obtained through observation, interviews, and documentation. The data obtained were then analyzed using qualitative data analysis techniques: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusions. The results of this study explain that the musical composition of Penanian Dolo entitled Ia Ke Ka'tumo tu Sunga'ku belongs to the form of a two-part song with symmetrical sentence pieces (AA'BA'). Like a hymn song that has simple melodic movements and is easy to learn and remember, that is the character of the song Ia Ke Ka'tumo tu Sunga'ku. The community's interpretation of singing the song Ia Ke Ka'tumo Tu Sunga'ku uses a 6/4 time rhythm pattern with an Adagietto tempo which means slow with a speed of 63-69 beats per minute. The heart-rending recitation of the verses and the resulting three-voice harmony can bring a sad and gripping feel, even though the song does not start with a minor chord. This research would be an effort and contribution of thought in the form of written works as a form of preserving Toraja cultural music as well as adding insight into the art of music in Indonesia.

Abstract

Rambu Solo' is a death ritual ceremony performed in Toraja and centered on the beliefs of the Toraja tribe's ancestors or commonly called Aluk To'dolo. The implementation of the ceremony almost always involves performing arts. One of the types of artistic offerings displayed is the Suling Te’dek. Suling Te’dek is one of the traditional musical instruments in Toraja and is a type of wind instrument made from traditional materials, namely in Toraja terms it is called Bambu Bulo which has been used for generations by the Toraja people in every mourning ceremony. The author aims to analyze how the process of playing Suling Te’dek in the Rambu Solo' ceremony. This study of traditional musical instruments by researchers using qualitative research with data analysis through observation, interviews and procurement of documentation. The results of the research show that the Suling Te’dek in the playing process is played together with Marakka singing (singing with Toraja language poetry/vocal music). The form of presenting Suling Te’dek music includes playing melodies which sometimes follow the melodies of Marakka's singing. However, until now there is no specific scale or patent used in Toraja. So the author in describing the scales for a while is to write them into the arrangement of the types of melodies that are often played in the musical presentation, namely Do, Di, Re, Mi, Sol, La as the arrangement of notations in Suling Te’dek. Abstract

This study explores the aesthetic principles of the Subahnale songket which is one of the ancestral heritages of the Sasak tribe. Employing the qualitative method, data collection was carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis techniques included data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The principles of aesthetics by DeWitt Henry Parker were used for data analysis. The results of this study show that Subahnale songket weaving has various aesthetic motifs. The craftsmen develop motifs and colors to keep up with the times. They introduce new designs while adhering to the standard, which is geometric hexagons. The aesthetic principles in the Subahnale songket is expected to impart knowledge to the younger generation and can serve as a reference for preserving the Subahnale songket weaving.

Abstract

The Lengger Mask Dance is a traditional populist dance and a type of social dance performed by two dancers: the lengger dancer and the mask dancer as escort. The performance of the Lengger Mask Dance and tourist packages differ. The Lengger Mask Dance performance typically lasts between six and eight hours; however, the performance at Ting Njanti Market is compressed and only lasts one hour. The focus of the research is the Lengger Giyanti Mask Dance performance. The purpose of this research is to analyze the performance process. The researcher employs both an ethnochoreological and an art education approach. The research method is qualitative, and the design is a case study. Before the show, during the show, and after the show were identified as the three major phases of the performance process by the study. There are three processes in the pre-performance phase: training, workshop, and rehearsal. The performance stage is comprised of four processes: warm-up, public performance, larger events/contexts that support public performances, and cool-down. The stage following the performance is comprised of three processions: critical responses, archives, and memories. This research concludes that there are ten processes in a performance, which are divided into three main sections: before the show, during the show, and after the show.

Abstract

The entry of globalization and modernization into Indonesia has gone hand in hand with the emergence of attitudes contrary to Javanese cultural values. Learning media can generate new desires and interests, increase motivation and stimulation of learning activities, and even psychologically affect students. Introducing the philosophy of gunungan wayang will be more effective if it is taught at schools. This study aims to describe and analyze how Gunungan Wayang Kulit Purwa can instill educational values ​​in SMA N 1 Cepiring. The research method used qualitative research with a case study design. The process of collecting data employed observation, interviews, and literature study. According to Miles and Huberman, data reduction, data presentation, and concluding were carried out with three activity lines. The results of this study are in the form of wayang creations or specifically the parts of gunungan, and they are used to deliver educational messages to the students. The character values instilled in the students are responsibility, curiosity, and honesty. The significance of this research is as an overview of the benefits of Gunungan Wayang Kulit Purwa to instill educational values ​​in students at SMA N 1 Cepiring.

Abstract

In character-based traditional dance learning, the concept of material content is included as a component that cannot be ignored in a lesson because the type of content of dance learning material includes cognitive, psychomotor and affective aspects which aim to develop teaching strategies through content material in the form of Concepts, Facts, Procedures and Principles in the learning process, which aims in the realm of art education to be able to shape the character of students as prospective teachers who are professional in the field of art education. This article uses a qualitative research method of interpretive analysis with the stages of analysis taken using theoretical studies and analysis in the field through direct interviews with the lecturer of the Tanggai Dance study at the Department of Performing Arts Education, PGRI University Palembang. The focus of the research is on the material content which includes concepts, facts, procedures and principles in the learning process of the Tanggai Dance at PGRI Palembang University. The research results are in the form of an analysis of findings that represent a strategic view that is structured in the concept of content-based material content based on character education in the learning process of the Tanggai Dance in Higher Education, not only that the content of material in character-based dance education can encourage the development of local arts which are seen primarily as a means to preserve in the realm of maintaining its original form.

Abstract

One of the traditional arts in Jambi Province is Kompangan music. Kompangan, in traditional ceremonies in Jambi, is often displayed to welcome guests of honor, traditional leaders, and religious events and is also often used for wedding processions. Therefore, the presence of Jambi Malay kompangan and hadrah arts, the hallmark of the Jambi people, is always synonymous with Islam. The presence of kompangan in the ceremony is very important so that kompangan is known, loved, and cherished even by children. In addition, the art of kompangan music has its charm so that it is easily remembered and accepted by the public. This study describes the revitalization process and the Islamic values of Kompangan traditional music at the Jambi Cultural Arts Institution in Seberang City, Jambi Province. The type of research used is descriptive qualitative—data collection techniques with observation, interviews, and documentation. The research results showed that the revitalization process went through six stages: the discovery stage of new views, the communication stage, the organizational stage, the adaptation stage, the transformation stage, and the routine stage. The Islamic values of Kompangan traditional music are individual moral, family, social, national, religious and Islamic character values, which are contained in music, musical instruments, procedures, and clothing.

Abstract

This study discusses the components and scope of artistic literacy in dance learning initiated by artists, the problem found in this research is the lack of students' understanding of artistic literacy with the presence of Artists Entering Schools can help increase knowledge of art literacy in Tempurung dance learning. The purpose of this study is to analyze the components and scope of artistic literacy in Tempurung dance learning initiated by artists. This study used a qualitative method with interdisciplinary studies of arts education and arts sociology, a case study research design regarding groups with the Artist Entering School program for a certain period, the research location was at SMP Negeri 14 Pontianak, data and data sources were divided into two, namely primary data and secondary data. secondary. secondary, using observation techniques, interview techniques, and documentation techniques, data analysis techniques using interactive models, results and discussion 1) Art Literacy has a very important role in learning Tempurung dance to increase love and inheritance for students 2) Learning Tempurung Dance becomes a means material objects in this study 3) Artists Enter School Artists give dance lessons to students so that they become good platforms for schools and arts and culture teachers.

Abstract

Keroncong is a native Indonesian music which has some influences from Portuguese. The development of Keroncong in Indonesia is considered to be in decline. The decline in the development of Keroncong is caused by the lack of media in socializing and the reduced number of Keroncong activists who still exist. One of the efforts to conserve Keroncong is through enculturation. This research discusses the enculturation pattern that is formed by combining several methods of enculturation which are performed and implemented by three elements Keroncong Semarang in order to suppress the decline rate of Keroncong development. This research uses cultural approach to examine the problems. The method used in this research was the analytical qualitative method. Data collection techniques used were observation, interviews, and literacy studies. The interviews were conducted directly with the informants, which are Sri Haryani, Sumarsono, and Nunung Nurjanah as Keroncong activists and practitioners, Marco Marnadi (Head of Congrock 17) and Ibnu Amar Muchsin (Head of Orkes Keroncong Tetap Segar) as Keroncong groups, and Drama, Dance, and Music Education study program at Universitas Negeri Semarang as educational institution in Semarang in the time span of three months. To test the validity of the data, extended observation steps and in-depth interviews were also utilized. The result of this research all three elements of Semarang Keroncong with their own methods of enculturation forms an intersection of which become the pattern of Semarang Keroncong enculturation. Individual element, groups element, and educational institution element utilize direct teaching as one of method used in enculturating value and skill of Keroncong.

Abstract

Some people still underestimate art. Art is a keyword in all fields. For example, the design of advertisements on industrial products that seek to touch the needs of emotion and imagination of its consumers. A short story illustration is a part of a work of art that illustrates a short story narrative text. There is an expression stated that the short story text acts as a Master, while the short story illustration acts as a servant who is obedient to his Master. It means that the illustrations for short stories are only seen as decoration. This study aims to describe and analyze the aesthetic form and educational message of the illustrated Bukan Sekadar Air Mata (Not Merely Tears) short story by Ibnu Talhah. The research method used qualitative research with a case study design. The data collection used observation, interviews, and documentation. According to Miles and Huberman, this study used data analysis techniques: data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. This study's results indicate three stages in analyzing the visuals in the illustrated short stories, including description, formal analysis, and interpretation. The embodiment of the aesthetic form of the illustration for the Bukan Sekadar Air Mata short story by Ibnu Talhah is surreal, with black and white colour domination. Each object drawn has a hidden meaning in it. In the illustration, the Bukan Sekadar Air Mata short story contains educational messages, including religious, moral, social, and cultural values. The significance of this research is educating the readers that short story illustrations cannot be seen as decoration only because it visualizes the narrative texts that contain meaning and educational messages, which can be used as a medium for public awareness regarding phenomena in society.
