Abstract

ABSTRACT Besides language exploitation phenomenon, in an advertisement, the presence of non-verbal elements also indicate the same phenomenon, whereas between non-verbal sign and the products or services that is being advertise sometimes have no relation in meaning at all and even reflect unrealistic meaning. In order to uncover the insight of this non-realistic meaning, it is required a special approach of hyperrealistic meaning theory that is Hypersemiotics.

Abstract

Abstrak Dikotomi tipologis struktur gramatikal bahasa-bahasa di dunia sebagai bahasa bertipologi akusatif dan ergatif mendapat “tantangan” dari data kebahasaan bahasa Minangkabau. Ada jenis struktur gramatikal bahasa daerah ini yang mempunyai sifat-perilaku sebagai konstruksi akusatif dan yang lainnya berperilaku sebagai konstruksi ergatif. Gagasan dan konsep S-terpilah dan S-alir menjadi analisis tipologis lain yang dapat digunakan untuk mengungkapkan sifat-perilaku gramatikal bahasa ini. Pengelompokan lain yang perlu dipelajari dan dibuktikan lebih jauh untuk bahasa ini adalah tipologi bahasa “campur” atau “netral”. Walaupun bahasa Minangkabau telah dianggap dan dilaporkan secara gramatikal adalah bahasa akusatif pada tataran sintaksis, namun bahasa ini juga beralasan untuk dikelompokkan sebagai bahasa “campur” atau “netral”. Artikel ini membahas fenomena sintaksis bahasa Minangkabau sebagai sebuah bahasa bertipologi campur atau netral berdasarkan kerangka kerja teoretis tipologi gramatikal. Abstract The typological dichotomy of grammatical structures of languages in the world as accusative and ergative languages gets “challenge” from linguistic data of Minangkabaunese. There are types of grammatical structures of clauses in the local language which has grammatical properties as accusative constructions and others are ergative ones. The ideas of split-S and fluid-S become other typological analyses that could be used to learn the grammatical properties of Minangkabaunese. Other grouping of languages which needs further proof is that the ‘mixed’ or ‘neutral’ languages. This local language may be classified as ‘mixed’ or ‘neutral’ language. This paper discusses the syntactical phenomena of Minangkabaunese as a ‘mixed’ or ‘neutral’ language based on grammatical typology theoretical framework.

Abstract

Abstract A study conducted at Nusa Cendana University in March 2007 aims at finding out how a Manggaraian text by Apas, a student, is structured. The data are analyzed descriptively. It is found that the overall structure of the text is good. Yet, it lacks details; its introductory and concluding paragraphs are poor; its word choice is heavily influenced by Indonesian and English; some sentences and paragraphs are poorly structured; some words are incorrectly spelt; and, some punctuation is false. It is suggested that Apas improve his ability on such cases and that the Government of Indonesia and linguists interested in Manggaraian standardize its grammar.

Abstract

Abstrak Bahasa Batak Angkola (selanjutnya disingkat dengan BBA) adalah salah satu (ragam) bahasa yang ada di Tapanuli Selatan, Sumatera Utara. Bahasa ini dipakai sebagai pengantar dalam pergaulan sehari-hari dan upacara adat. Bahasa Batak Angkola mempunyai beberapa ragam dan salah satu dari ragam itu disebut Marsitogol. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mendeskripsikan kosakata bahasa BBA, terutama semantic Marsitogol. Selain itu, penelitian ini dapat menjadi muatan local yang memperkaya jumlah bahasa daerah dan pembinaan atau pengembangan bahasa Indonesia. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode deskripsi analitis (melalui empat tahap, pengumpulan data, pengklasifikasian data, pengnalissan data dan penyimpulan).Teori yang digunakan adalah teori semantic.Hasil penelitian ini, menyimpulkan, dilihat dari makna semantik yang digunakan dapat menjadi perspektif. pembangunan manusia, khususnya di masyarakat BA. Abstract Bahasa Batak Angola (BBA) is one of language varieties in South Tapanuli, North Sumatera. This language is used in daily communication and Bataknese ceremonies. BBA has some varieties and one of those varieties is Marsitogol. The aim of this research is to describe the vocabulary of BBA, especially semantics of Marsitogol. Besides, this research can be used to enrich local languages quantity as well as to develop Indonesia language. Method which is used in this research is descriptive-analytic method (there are four steps, collecting data, classifying data, analyzing data, & summarizing). Theory which is used is semantic theory. The summary of this research is that semantic meaning can be used as a perspective of human development especially in BA society.

Abstract

Abstract Ansus is an Austronesian language which is located in the west of Yapen Island. The language is spoken mainly on the village of Ansus, Kairawa and Yemprum on the island of Miosnum. This research is focused on morphology and syntax, especially in agreement between subject and verb in Ansus language. This research is aimed to present the morphosyntax of subject verb agreement in Ansus language. Descriptive method is used in this research. The results of this study are in Ansus Language the agreement is the prefix of the verb phrase and does not happen in second person singular and third person singular as the subject. In addition, the agreements are the prefix e - , u -, mu -, anto -, mito -, ito -, ama -, and me -. Prefix e- is found in the sentence which consists of first person singular as subject. Prefix u- is found in the sentences which consist of first person dual and third person dual as subject. Prefix mu- is found in the sentence which consists of second person dual as subject. Prefix anto-, mito-, ito- are found in the sentences which consist of first person trial, second person trial, and third person trial as subject. Prefix ama- and me- are found in the sentence which consist of first person plural and second person plural as subject.

Abstract

Abstract Politeness has been discussed from different perspectives, i.e. pragmatics, sociolinguistics, the social psychology of language, psycholinguistics, developmental psychology, and anthropology. However, most authors seem to agree that politeness is a feature of language use. It is indicated that the politeness of linguistic acts is determined by their occurrence in communicative contexts rather than by inherent properties, pushes the issue even further by noting that being ‘polite’ is attributable only to speakers’ conduct, it is the conduct itself, whether in form of language use or other behaviours, that is routinely assessed as more or less polite relative to community values and norms (Fraser, 1990, Kasper, 1997). Thus, politeness is a crucial element of interpersonal communication in all cultures. This paper evaluates theories commonly used to approach the universality and the relativity of the issue. Abstrak Politeness sebagai kajian kebahasaan telah didiskusikan dari berbagai perspektif, seperti: pragmatics, sociolinguistics, psikologi sosial bahasa, psikolinguistik, psikologi perkembangan, dan antropologi. Akan tetapi semua ahli nampaknya bersepakat bahwa issue politeness sesungguhnya fitur dari penggunaan bahasa. Hal ini ditunjukkan oleh perilaku linguistik politeness banyak ditentukan oleh konteks komunikasi itu sendiri, sehingga menjadi property inheren dalam bentuk penggunaan bahasa dan perilaku kebahasaan yang setiap saat bisa dibandingkan dengan perilaku kebahasaan yang kurang pas (sopan) berdasarkan cara pandang masyarakat pengguna bahasa tertentu (Fraser, 1990, Kasper, 1997). Dengan demikian politeness merupakan faktor krusial dalam komunikasi interpersonal setiap budaya. Tulisan ini mencoba mengevaluasi teori-teori terkait yang lazim digunakan dalam mendekati universalitas dan relativitas politeness.

Abstract

Abstrak Banyak legenda yang dimiliki masyarakat Dayak Ngaju (DN) mempunyai latar (setting) sungai. Dengan menggunakan teori semiotik, makna dan nilai-nilai dalam teks-teks legenda Dayak Ngaju (LDN) dengan latar sungai tersebut dapat dipersepsikan melalui budaya dan kepercayaan masyarakat DN. Dari sistem tanda (penanda/ ungkapan dan petanda/ isi), didapatkan makna konotatif kekuatan dan kekuasaan manusia, binatang dan tumbuhan di/ dekat dengan sungai; makna konotatif kekayaan yang berada di/ dekat sungai, identitas yang berhubungan dengan sungai; makna konotatif sifat sosial; dan makna konotatif sifat religius masyarakat DN. Di samping itu, dari pemaknaan-pemaknaan tersebut dapat ditarik nilai-nilai yang terdapat pada masyarakat DN, yaitu nilai sejarah, nilai sosial, dan nilai religius. Abstract Some of legends in Dayak Ngaju (DN) community use rivers as the settings. By using semiotic theory, meanings and values within the texts of DN legend (LDN) can be drawn in the perception of culture and belief of DN community. The sign system (expression and content) of semiotics can explain the connotative meanings in LDN texts; they are the connotative meanings of the power of human beings, animals, and plants in/ near rivers; the connotative meanings of the prosperous from rivers; the connotative meanings of identity made by the river itself; and the connotative meaning of social and religious made by the community. Moreover, those meanings can describe the values occur in DN community; those are history, social, and religious values.

Abstract

Abstrak Analisis Kontrastif, sering disingkat menjadi “anakon” adalah sebuah pendekatan pembelajaran bahasa terutama kepada peserta didik yang bilingual. Anakon sering dipertentangkan dengan “anakes” (Analisis Kesalahan) berbahasa. Sesungguhnya kedua aspek ini berbeda konsep dan berbeda pula sifat dari obyek materialnya. Keduanya mempunyai hubungan korelatif karena memiliki sasaran yang sama yakni peserta didik pembelajar bahasa kedua. Pendekatan Anakon yang dijalankan secara disiplin dan saksama sesuai dengan medium, gaya, ragam, dan konteks akan dapat mencegah terjadinya interferensi. Peristiwa dan kondisi interferensi itu merupakan peluang utama terjadinya kesalahan berbahasa. Dengan demikian Anakes merupakan salah satu langkah jika diperlukan untuk mengevaluasi terjadinya interferensi. Salah satu manfaat Anakon ialah menanamkan ketaatan bilingual dalam menggunakan masing-masing bahasa secara disiplin sesuai konteks. Seorang guru bahasa yang baik jika memiliki dan menguasai sejumlah pendekatan, metode, atau strategi pembelajaran. Anekdot yang perlu direnungkan bahwa semua metode itu baik tetapi sangat ditentukan oleh ketrampilan guru dan kesesuaian materi. Khusus untuk pendekatan Anakon perlu dimiliki oleh para guru bahasa yang bekerja dalam masyarakat multilingual dan multicultural seperti di Nusa Tenggara Timur. Abstract Contrastive analysis is usually called Anakon. It is an approach used for studying, especially for bilingual student. Anakon is different from Anakes (error analysis). These two concepts are actually not the same. However, they have the same goal, that is a bilingual student. To prevent the interference, the Anakon approach must be based on four things such as manner, context, medium and style. The error analysis of language usually occurred because of the event and the condition of interference So that, the Anakes (Analisis Kesalahan) is a one way to evaluate the process of the interference. The benefit of Anakon is to maintain the way or strategy of how to use language that relevant to the context. A good language teacher must know much about approach, method, and strategy. As an anecdote, we have to say that, all methods are actually good. However, it depends much on the skill and the material provided. The Anakon approach is very useful for multilingual and multicultural language teacher in Nusa Tenggara Timur province.

Abstract

Abstract This study examines the meanings of Ara folksong in the context of penti ritual or traditional new year party in the speech community of Manggarai ethnic group in Flores. In accordance with the characteristics of its linguistic units, the meanings implied and stated in Ara folksong cover religious, sociologic, and aesthetic meaning. The religious meaning deals with the belief system shared by the speech community of Manggarai ethnic group on the existence of the Supreme God, their ancestors, and the environmental spirits. The sociologic meaning is related to social value on the importance of unity in favor of maintaining cohesive social relationship. The aesthetic meaning is concerned with formal and sensual values, which cover behind them socio-religious value functioning as moral and ethic guideline for the speech community of Manggarai ethnic group.

Abstract

Abstract The Indonesian government has acknowledged the importance of English by putting it into the education system for five decades. English has been integrated to secondary school for a long time. As the English language is getting stronger influence in the modern world and has become an international language, also, the advantages of introducing a foreign language for young learners, the government of Indonesia then has set up the policy to introduce English language in primary schools. This policy is optional. It depends on schools and community demands. The government does not provide teachers and curriculum. Schools and community are in charge to provide teachers, curriculum and facilities. Teachers are one of the most important parts in the discourse of education and the process of teaching and learning in schools. Furthermore, there are some important considerations before conducting the programs since young children have specific characteristics. It was this that interested me to write a research about some considerations of English language teaching for primary students. Abstrak Pemerintah Indonesia mengakui bahwa bahasa Inggris sangat penting dalam sistim pendidikan yang telah berlangsung selama kurun waktu lima tahun terakhir. Bahasa Inggris sudah beritegrasi ke sekolah-kesekolah sampai tingkat atas dalam waktu yang sudah lama. Selama ini bahasa Inggris memiliki pengaruh yang sangat kuat dalam dunia modern dan menjadi salah satu alat komunkasi yang sangat penting dalam hubungan internasional, juga sangat memberikan keuntungan bagi para pelajar dan generasi muda. Dalam hal ini pemerintah Indonesia kemudian diharapkan memberi kebijakan tersebut untuk mengenalkan pelajaran bahasa Inggris di Sekolah-sekolah Dasar. Kebijakan ini merupakan tambahan di Sekolah dan sangat diminati oleh masyarakat. Pemerintah tidak mesti harus mencetak guru-guru dan menyediakan kurikulum tersebut. Tetapi sekolah dan masyarakat termasuk para guru mesti yang menyediakan kurikulum dan fasilitas tersebut. Para guru adalah salah satu bagian pokok penting dalam memberikan proses pendidikan dan pengajaran di Sekolah. Lagipula, ada beberapa pertimbangan-pertimbangan penting sebelum melaksanakan program itu karena umumnya generasi muda sangat membutuhkan karakter yang sangat spesifik. Untuk itulah saya sangat tertarik meneliti beberapa pertimbangan-pertibambangan tentang perlunya pengajaran bahasa Inggris kepada Generasi Muda.
