Abstract

The current model of history teaching and learning is still oriented toward delivering learning materials so history awareness among the learners is not optimally achieved. This study is intended to analyze the implementation of the current management of history teaching and learning, to develop a model of history learning management based on the contextual approach to improve history awareness, and to test the feasibility of the model. This study adopted a research and development design. The data were collected by using observation, interviews, questionnaires and documents, and analysed by using a descriptive and analytical qualitative analysis. The results show that the teaching of history is currently teacher-centered, by using a lecture method, with very limited teaching media and references. Developing a management model of contextual history learning is a way to improve history awareness. The model was validated by experts by the average scale of 3.81 and by practitioners by the average scale of 4.00. The final model consists of planning, observation, development and application. The model can improve the history awareness of the VHS learners better if compared to the conventional model (ttest = 5.316 at p < 0.05).

Abstract

The Scientific approach is among the ways to achieve the goals of the 2013 Curriculum (K13). The short period of time for the teacher training and others are assumed to be the cause of the gradual implementation of K13. In line with this, the Government intends to reorganize the way in which the K13 is implemented. The Government has assigned several schools to be analyzed as the target schools to improve. This study intends to contribute to it by analyzing the pattern of scientific `approach implemented by the teachers in teaching their students so that the teachers’ performance in conducting teaching-learning processes can be managed in accordance with the K13. This research aimed to determine the level of perceived gaps on the way the teachers implemented the scientific approach in physical education, sports, and health (PJOK) learning at the target schools of the K13 in the province of North Sumatra. The data were analyzed in order to obtain an overview and improvement solutions in managing scientific approach to PJOK learning that foster a positive impact on the aspects of growth and the students’ development in line with the expectation of the K13. The research method applied in this study refers to the discrepancy approach developed by Malcolm Provus. This approach was meant to find out gaps in the program. The research was carried out by inventorying standard references in implementing the pattern of the scientific approach. The results of inventorying become the standard criteria of data collection and analysis in this study. The analysis revealed that the PJOK teachers have not completely implemented the scientific approach. The implementation patterns were neither consistent nor appropriate.  The teachers understanding about the demand of the scientific approach pattern management of the K13 was inadequate.

Abstract

Education that is charged with multicultural values is a staged-educational process that can be used as a binder and a bridge to accommodate differences, such as ethnicity, language, culture, gender, region, and religion in a multi-cultural society in order to create intelligent, wise, and polite personality in dealing with diversity issues. Multicultural education should continue to be understood comprehensively, so it is not stagnant only limited to discourse, and ultimately can be implemented in harmony and without any negative effects. It is this basis that causes multicultural education urgent for immediate implementation in educational institutions, so it is necessary to comprehensively study various aspects of life so that there is a synergy between the academic community and the society of a nation-state. This study employed a research and development (R & D) design from Borg and Gall, while the design of the model was adopted from the development of McKenny. The research procedure was based on the ten-phased design from Borg and Gall that has been modified into three phases, namely (1) a preliminary study; (2) the development of the design; and (3) testing the feasibility of the product. Based on the conclusion, this study recommends that multicultural education is a new discourse of education in Indonesia, but the urgency of its implementation is very high; the multicultural education curriculum can be implemented through each level of education, the student program and in the process of habituation through daily learning both within the school and in the family. Multicultural education can be inserted through the planting of multicultural values into the curriculum or learning activities which are responsively multicultural by promoting respect for differences: racial, ethnic, cultural, religious, and territorial between the community members; and no less important is that multicultural education discourse can be implemented within the scope of the family, as the smallest social institution in the community which is most effective learning media in the process of internalization and transformation of values, as well as the socialization of family members.

Abstract

As a practice, the Polytechnic machining workshop should also be a safe workplace for students. The lack of the manager’s attention in setting the safe way of working and the use of personal protective equipment for the students’ work show the substandard implementation of the occupational health and safety. This study aims to find out a factual management model, analyze the shortcomings, and design a hypothetical model for the Polytechnic machining workshop management characterized by health and safety. Students, lecturers, laboratory assistants, and technicians are directly related to the activities of the Polytechnic machining workshop as data sources. This study implemented research and development methodology, with data collection techniques that include observational studies, interviews, and questionnaires. Using indicators for safe machining workshop management, the result of each indicator shows merely 20% of the expectation. It was concluded that the factual management model to provide a safe workplace for students is still bad. The disadvantage of this management model is the lack of in-depth preparation for implementing occupational health and safety regulations. Therefore, the model still requires a development to become a model of machining workshop management with health and safety character. The success of the implementation of this management model requires leadership support and active participation of all those involved in the students’ practice activities in the Polytechnic machining workshop.

Abstract

As a way to achieve a high-quality Guidance and Counseling (GC) session, there is a need to apply soft skills in GC service interactions. However, many counselors have yet to optimally develop and implement proper soft skills in GC service sessions. Therefore, a model for developing soft skills training management oriented toward service quality is required for counselors. This is particularly necessary because a meaningful relationship between counselors and students can be built through having proficient soft skills, such as appearance, verbal communication skills, work ethics, analytical abilities, self-management, and others. The purpose of this study is to obtain ways to overcome hindrances in soft skill training programs, so similar service quality improvement programs for counselors could be carried out well. This study proposes a model for developing soft skills training management oriented toward service quality for counselors. Training management includes planning, organizing, implementatoin, monitoring and evaluation, whereas the conceptual model for soft skill training oriented toward service quality consists of training analysis, training program design, training development, training implementation, and training evaluation.

Abstract

As part of the culture, sport has a variety of forms and meaning that undergo changes from time to time and from society to society. This study is intended to describe the accessability of public spaces, the adaptation patterns of the use of public spaces by participants of ‘sport for all’, forms of interaction, communication and image of “sport for all”, and sociocultural factors that support “sport for all” within the car free day program in Simpang Lima Complex. A phenomenologic naturalistic approach by using a multi-site design was used. The subjects consisted of heads of Semarang City Services, and users of car free day activities. The data were collected by using observation, documents, and interviews. The results show that first, public spaces are external and accessible by all people and consist of parks, city square, roads, and sidewalks. Second, the users of “sport for all” adapt to the available spaces through car free day activities. Third, the symbols of interaction, communication and image of “sport for all” are similar including accessories, fashion and identities to visually demonstrate their community or group existence. Fourth, physical, social, ecologic, and economic aspects of the sociocultural factors support “sport for all”.
