Abstract

This study describes the ability to solve systematic problems regarding field-dependent (FD) and field-independent (FI) cognitive styles in arithmetic material. Solving systematic problems based on the APOS theory (action, process, object, schema) describes the ability of each student's cognitive style. This type of research is descriptive, using a qualitative approach. The research subjects consisted of four students consisting of two students with an FD and two FI styles in class X SMA Negeri 1 Gemolong. Data collection methods are tests and interviews. The instruments in the research were the researchers themselves, the GEFT (Group Embedded Figure Test) test as an instrument in selecting research subjects, a test of the ability to solve arithmetic problems based on APOS and interview guidelines. The analysis technique used in this study is data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The results showed that students with a FI cognitive style were better at problem-solving than students with an FD cognitive style. Subject FI can solve mathematical problems systematically based on APOS theory, and FI can determine methods for solving mathematical problems and originate from their thoughts not influenced by other parties. Meanwhile, FD has difficulty solving problems systematically and understanding and making mathematical models, which tends to be problematic in understanding mathematical problems and solutions that do not originate from their thinking.

Abstract

Algebraic thinking plays an essential role in increasing mathematics problem-solving abilities. In this study, the pre-service mathematics teacher’s (PMTs) ability of algebraic thinking is explored based on a systematic-intuitive cognitive style. This study aims to reveal students' algebraic thinking abilities regarding systematic-intuitive cognitive style. Three components of algebraic thinking were analyzed: arithmetic generalization, functional thinking, and generalization and justification. The research approach is qualitative with a case study method. The subjects were 31 PMTs at one of the private universities in Surakarta District, Central Java, Indonesia. Data collection methods were algebraic thinking tests,  the Cognitive Style Inventory (CSI) questionnaires, and interview protocol. Four subjects, two PMTs for each cognitive style category were interviewed to reveal their algebraic thinking abilities. The results showed that all subjects were able to solve the functional thinking problem correctly. However, for the generalization arithmetics and justification problems, the PMTs abilities are varied. In addition, the finding also showed the different strategies of systematic and intuitive subjects in solving the problems related to algebraic thinking components. PMTs with a systematic cognitive style solve problems systematically and represent the pattern verbally in the form of a table or word, whereas the PMTs with an intuitive cognitive style solve the problem briefly and visually using pictures pattern. In conclusion, there is a relationship between algebraic thinking ability and cognitive style.

Abstract

AJW is a consumer goods distribution company for Indofood products and non-Indofood products. PT. AJW moves throughout Karo district. The number of tourist attractions in Karo makes the demand for goods higher such as Pop noodles, Indomie, chitato and others. Thus, having an impact on the distribution of goods Based on the author's observations at PT. AJW Kabanjahe has no standard provisions in determining the route, the delivery of goods is still carried out based on requests from consumers so that it ignores the distance traveled and time. A way that can solve this distribution problem is the Capacitated Vehicle Routing Problem (CVRP). CVRP is a problem in determining the optimal route by looking at the problem that each vehicle has a capacity limit. To solve CVRP problems, a good heuristic algorithm is used is the sweep algorithm and local search route improvement. This study uses the sweep algorithm to solve the CVRP problem, and the routes obtained by the sweep algorithm will be improved with local search. The sweep algorithm is a simple method of calculation, even for calculating large problems. The sweep algorithm will be combined with local search. Local search is an algorithm used to get shorter routes. The combination of the two algorithms is perfect for solving CVRP problems. After research, a distance of 39.96 km was obtained compared to the company's route of 103.5 km. So the percentage of mileage savings is 61.39%. This shows that sweep algorithms can minimize distance while saving company expenses

Abstract

Monkeypox is an infectious disease that affects mammals, including humans and some primates. Monkeypox transmission can be prevented by administering vaccinations to the human population. This study aims to construct and analyze the monkeypox transmission model's stability with vaccination. There are six sub-populations: Vaccinated humans ( ), Susceptible humans ( ), Infected human , Recovered human , Susceptible animal , and Infected human . Several steps are literature study, formulating assumptions, constructing models, finding equilibrium points, searching for reproduction numbers by next-generation matrix, analyzing stability, and numerical simulations using Matlab R02023b. From the model, three equilibria are obtained: disease-free equilibrium points, first endemic equilibrium points, and second endemic equilibrium points. Disease-free equilibrium point will be asymptotically stable at the vaccination rates  and the animal transmission rate of the animal at the rate of . The first endemic equilibrium point ) will be stable for  and . The second endemic equilibrium point  will be stable for  and . Based on numerical simulation results, it is obtained that the higher the vaccination rate and the lower the transmission rate in animals, the faster the transmission of monkeypox infections.
