Abstract

Education has a strategic role in forming future generations who are able to face the challenges of the times, especially in the context of globalization and technological progress. This research focuses on the use of literacy corners as a medium for creativity in developing students' talents at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI) Mambaul Ulum Dagan. Through a qualitative descriptive approach, this research explores how literacy corners can increase students' reading interest and creativity. The research results show that a well-designed literacy corner, equipped with a varied collection of books, is able to create an inspiring learning environment. Students show improvement in the ability to express creative ideas through writing and visual arts. In addition, support from parents and collaboration between schools and libraries contribute to the success of this program. This research recommends implementing the model of utilizing literacy corners in other schools as an effort to develop students' creativity and talents more effectively. Thus, the literacy corner not only functions as a reading source, but also as a means to stimulate students' imagination and potential, which ultimately contributes to a better quality of education

Abstract

This study aims to examine teachers' strategies in managing bilingual classroom learning in Indonesian language subjects for third graders at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Negeri 2 Lamongan. The research method used is a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study design. Data collection was conducted through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation to obtain a comprehensive picture of bilingual learning practices. The results of the study indicate that teachers face major challenges in the form of limited foreign language skills and managing bilingual classroom interactions. Teachers implement various strategies such as the use of contextual language, practice-based learning, and utilizing the school environment as a learning resource. These strategies have been proven to increase student activeness, understanding, and motivation in learning Indonesian. The discussion shows that this strategy is important to implement because bilingual learning requires a balance between mastery of the mother tongue and a foreign language to avoid hindering students' literacy development. In addition, the contextual approach was chosen because it can create meaningful, enjoyable, and relevant learning experiences with students. The conclusion of the study shows that effective management of bilingual learning requires language competence, pedagogical skills, and teacher creativity. Therefore, it is recommended that ongoing training for teachers and school policy support be provided to improve the quality of bilingual learning in madrasahs.

Abstract

General Background: Education plays a strategic role in shaping human resources not only cognitively but also in developing character and ethics from an early age. Specific Background: The advancement of globalization and technology has led to moral value shifts, while character education in elementary schools remains less contextual, particularly within Islamic educational settings. Knowledge Gap: Studies focusing on the integration of local wisdom through santri culture in Islamic elementary schools within pesantren environments are still limited. Aims: This study aims to analyze the implementation of local wisdom-based education through santri culture in shaping students’ character and ethics at SDI Tanwirul Qulub. Results: Using a qualitative case study approach with observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, the findings show that the integration is implemented through habituation, exemplary behavior, and hidden curriculum, where santri culture as religious local wisdom fosters respectful attitudes, discipline in worship, social ethics, and student confidence. Novelty: This study offers an integrative model of character education based on local wisdom by positioning santri culture as a form of religious local wisdom internalized through daily practices in a pesantren-based elementary school context. Implications: The findings provide a conceptual and practical alternative for strengthening character education in Islamic elementary schools through the integration of formal learning and pesantren cultural values. Highlights• Integration of school curriculum with pesantren traditions shapes moral development• Daily habituation and role modeling build discipline, respect, and social ethics• Collaborative roles of teachers and caregivers sustain value internalization KeywordsLocal Wisdom Education; Santri Culture; Character Formation; Ethics Education; Islamic Elementary School

Abstract

In the field of education, the success of a learning process can be influenced by many factors, one of which is students’ learning interest. Strong interest can serve as motivation for students to be more active in the learning process. The Islamic Cultural History (SKI) learning process at MI Islamiyah Sumberwudi appeared monotonous and resulted in low student interest, particularly in the material on Isra’ and Mi’raj of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). This condition demands innovation in learning, one of which is the use of animated videos as a learning medium. The objectives of this study are: (1) to examine the SKI learning process in grade 4 at MI Islamiyah Sumberwudi using animated video media; and (2) to identify the factors that influence students’ learning interest in SKI when using animated video media. This study employed a qualitative method with grade 4 students of MI Islamiyah Sumberwudi as the subjects. Data collection techniques included interviews, observation, and documentation, while data analysis techniques consisted of data reduction, data presentation, and verification. The findings show that: (1) the SKI learning process in grade 4 using animated video media was carried out in three stages—preparation (developing teaching modules and selecting animated videos), implementation (applying the prepared modules), and evaluation (assessing student responses to learning through animated videos); and (2) several factors influenced students’ learning interest in SKI through animated videos, including an engaging storyline, colorful and appealing visuals, attractive characters, and supporting audio elements.

Abstract

Reading ability is a fundamental skill for Madrasah Ibtidaiyah students, as it serves as the foundation for understanding various subjects. Based on observations in grade II at MI Sabilul Huda, several students were found to experience reading difficulties, such as being slow in recognizing letters, struggling to pronounce syllables fluently, and lacking comprehension of simple texts. This study aims to examine the implementation of the Montessori method and its effectiveness in addressing reading difficulties, as well as to describe the improvement in students’ reading ability after the intervention. The research employed a quantitative approach with a single-subject experimental design type A–B. The subjects consisted of three grade II students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through reading tests (pretest and posttest), observation, and documentation, then analyzed using descriptive statistics, visual graphs, and PND (Percentage of Non-overlapping Data) analysis. The results showed that the Montessori method was implemented gradually, starting from letter recognition to reading short texts with comprehension, using concrete media such as letter cards, syllable cards, sandpaper letters, and picture books. The intervention improved the average reading score from 18.67 to 32.67 (an increase of 28% from the maximum score), with a PND of 100%, indicating very high effectiveness. Therefore, the Montessori method proved to enhance students’ fluency, accuracy, and independence in reading, and is considered a viable alternative strategy for teaching beginning reading at the elementary or Madrasah Ibtidaiyah level.

Abstract

The family is the first and primary educational environment for children and plays a strategic role in shaping personality, attitudes, and learning achievement. However, not all children grow up in harmonious family environments. Broken home family conditions often have an impact on students’ psychological development and learning achievement. This study aims to describe the conditions of broken home families, students’ learning achievement, and the role of family parenting in supporting students’ learning achievement at MI Islamiyah Sunan Giri Lamongan. This research employed a qualitative approach using a case study method. Data collection techniques included interviews, observations, and documentation. The results show that although students come from broken home families, supportive parenting, emotional attention, and learning motivation provided by parents or guardians are still able to encourage improvements in students’ learning achievement. These findings emphasize that the quality of parenting has a greater influence than the integrity of family structure.
