Abstract

Collection of antique furniture is the most dominant type collection belongs to the Jakarta History Museum. The museum building is located in tourist areas Kotatua Jakarta, which became the center of historic and cultural development of the city. The purpose of this research is to determine the condition of furniture in the museum's collections so that the rescue of cultural heritage and history associated with the city through the exhibition can be done well. Methods of research conducted by collecting data from various literature sources, surveys and interviews with the management of Jakarta History Museum as a resource. Unfortunately, the furniture collection is currently not maintained and not well protected so that the high historical value of cultural heritage and history of the city of Jakarta is almost negligible. Conclusion from this research is to realign of the furniture collection at the Museum of History of Jakarta.

Abstract

Various ornament of Indonesian people comes from the ethnic groups from all over the archipelago. As a tangible cultural ornament has a specific purpose and it does not change throughout the ages. Bali is one of the ethnic group in archipelago that has beautiful decorative art and one of the most popular tourism destination in Indonesia. Bali’s ornament generally seen as decorative carving on the column, window or even in door. The beauty of Bali is not only as an inspiration for their colors and sculpture but also the variety of forms that have been simplified in the ornament. Moreover, floral & fauna forms are easy to apply as an interior element in modern buildings. Generally the value of these ornament has a specific purpose related to the cultural and social custom in Bali people. So that the application need to consider more about the purpose of the symbol of the ornament.

Abstract

The existence of the museum building as  conservation collection of historic objects often give the impression that the museum is an ancient building, dark and disheveled. While the new paradigm in the management of the museum is a museum not only as a place to store historical objects, but need to present the collection in an attractive package so that visitors interested in coming back again to the museum. Museum of art and culture of Java Ullen Sentalu, in Kaliurang has provided a new insight to the culture, especially Javanese culture in the family palace of Yogyakarta and Solo Palace. The main attraction of this Sentalu Ullen is to deliver information about the historic collection from the family palace is presented as a whole, so that leaves a deep impression for visitors. This museum has given the world a new concept in museums in Indonesia, which certainly can be applied to other museums in Indonesia.

Abstract

Signage system is applied in interior public spaces with consideration to the basic of typography. The objective of signage system is to provide the user convenience in public spaces in order to reach destination while the user is in the building. The basic requirements for designing signage system are legibility and readability. There are still designers who are not aware about the importance of designing a signage system so that sometimes it is found only as decorative element. It is necessary to make the best use of the purpose of signage design, so an interior design should be more carefully in conducting research related to the application of signage system in public spaces. The applied typography has to be considered by its size, placement, colors, and materials to be used. This research used design thinking goal grid method that is suitable to examine the signage system in order to complete design objectives. Article focuses on how to design the signage system to accommodate information that was useful for the user in public space. At the end, there would be identified signage system’s function in interior public spaces as information, guidance, identification as well as safety regulation.

Abstract

Tana Toraja is one ethnic group in the archipelago that has beautiful decorative art and one of the most popular tourism destinations in Indonesia. Toraja’s ornament generally is seen as decorative carving on the column of Tongkonan (Toraja traditional house), window, or even in barn doors. The beauty of Tana Toraja is not only as an inspiration for its colors and sculptures but also the variety of forms that has been simplified in the ornament. Moreover, the geometric forms are easy to apply as interior element in modern buildings. Generally, the value of these ornaments has a specific purpose related to the cultural and social custom of the Toraja people. Hence, the application needs to consider about the purpose of the symbol of the ornament.

Abstract

Its meaning does not change throughout the ages. Betawi culture has become cultural roots for most people in Jakarta which also as the capital city of Indonesia. Betawi culture is seen in a wide variety of dance, batik, decorative ornaments, and culinary. Betawi ornament can also be seen in the architecture and public areas since the geometrical shape is very easy to apply as interior element. The application of Betawi ornaments in a restaurant interior represents the idea of dining area in Betawi house. The study of Betawi ornaments was conducted by documentation of decorative elements in a restaurant as a public space. Objective of this research is to preserve various ornaments of Betawi culture. So that, the data can be valuable as an inspiration for designing restaurant interior with Betawi style. Generally, value of the ornaments has specific purposes related to Betawi’s cultural and social customs. Therefore, the application needs to consider more about the purpose of the symbol of the ornament.

Abstract

Mall building is a place where urban communities come together with their specific interest. People go to the mall with their independent needs without any emotional bonding between each other. As a public space, mall is trying to meet the needs of urban communities especially as an entertaining space for the visitors. Go to the mall has become a way of life in urban society, as a destination for the whole family. While on the other hand the existence of many mall building are the traits of sick city, because as a public space, city does not meet the social and environmental objectives anymore. Jakarta has more than 75 building mall, it has exceeded the limit of the population. Mall has become a phenomenon because it has met the lifestyle of urban society but on the other side mall has spent water absorption area. This disagreement about mall building requires a mall that friendly to the environment, so that the green open spaces and water absorption area can be provided or replaced as well. The next discussion is about mall that should build friendly to the environment and its importance to the urban community.

Abstract

Mall building has become part of the urban living’s lifestyle. Going to the mall is an independent necessity without any emotional bond with others. As a public area, mall has been trying to fulfill urban communities’ needs such as to enlarge employment opportunities as well as to provide an entertainment center for visitors. For most of urban communities, mall is considered to be a solution for all members of family. It is one destination for all. Mall elements consist of anchor, secondary anchor, street mall, and landscaping. They are built in a perfect composition in order to emphasize the main purpose of a mall building as a modern place for trading. Interior design in a mall building is not only to apply a finishing treatment but also to give an aesthetic experience to the visitors. The excitement of being surrounded by beautiful material, attractive colors in luxurious building are some of the impact that gives an aesthetic experience in mall buildings. This meant to attract customer to purchase the product. The phenomenon of mall building is that although the function of mall building has met the urban communities’ demand it also has used the green spaces and spoiled the water absorption.  In order to solve the problems that suitable for this situation, designing an integrated mal with green building concept should be the solution. The solution should be supported with government regulation based on the awareness of environmental friendly, combining a mall building with open space with well designed of landscapingwill offer a new place to gather for urban communities.

Abstract

Abstract Traditional food carts can be a symbol of the distinctiveness of Indonesian culinary culture. Placement in a food court needs special attention so that it can blend with food court interior in the mall building. Traditional Betawinese food carts in foodcourt are expected to provide Betawinese cultural identity as an inspiration in applying local culture in commercial place. The uniqueness of Betawinese culture should be presented as the element of design in the counter so that the visitor could have the experience from the process of serving that used to be seen when serving in traditional food carts. This experiences are expected to provide insight and maintain the preservation of Betawinese traditional food. The identification of traditional Betawinese food carts is obtained through direct research conducted on objects by using goal grid methods. The outcome of this research is to create harmony between tradional food carts with the thematic interior of food court that served Indonesian cuisine to the visitiors. Abstrak Gerobak makanan tradisional dapat menjadi tanda kekhasan budaya kuliner Indonesia. Penempatannya pada sebuah foodcourt perlu mendapatkan perhatian khusus agar dapat menyatu dengan interior pusat jajan yang berada dalam bangunan mal. Identifikasi gerobak makanan tradisonal khas Betawi, didapatkan melalui penelitian langsung yang dilakukan terhadap objek. Hal ini dilakukan untuk dapat menciptakan keselarasan antara gerobak makanan tradisional, dengan tema pusat jajan pada bangunan mal yang menyajikan kuliner Indonesia sebagai menu yang ditawarkan kepada pengunjung. Gerobak makanan tradisional khas Betawi pada pusat jajan diharapkan dapat memberikan identitas budaya Betawi sekaligus menjadi sebuah inspirasi dalam menerapkan kekayaan budaya lokal pada sebuah fasilitas publik. Kekhasan budaya Betawi dalam penyajian makanan tradisional hendaknya desain gerobak, sehingga pengunjung pusat jajan, tetap mendapatkan pengalaman dari proses penyajian makanan khas Betawi layaknya makanan tersebut diproses saat berjualan dengan gerobak keliling. Pengalaman ini diharapkan dapat memberikan wawasan serta menjaga kelestarian dari makanan tradisional khas Betawi. Hasil luaran yang didapat adalah berupa desain gerobak makanan tradisional khas Betawi yang berada di sebuah pusat jajan pada bangunan mal.

Abstract

The outbreak in 2020, has unconsciously impacted the trend of food court with semi-outdoor areas. Since open spaces are considered to have lower risk of spreading the virus compared to indoor areas. There are health protocols that must be obeyed to break the chain of virus transmission. Food court as a facility to provide culinary delights have survived during the outbreak as they have easy access supported with affordable prices. It is interesting that semi-outdoor food courts have opened since 2019 but become more popular in the pandemic era. It is found that food courts have supporting facilities to match the variety of activities in urban society other than food and beverages services. Semi-outdoor food court has an open space has natural lighting and the air is well circulated. The scope of this research is a semi-outdoor food court that has additional facilities in DKI Jakarta and its surroundings. Therefore, it has a potential to expand the area for further research. Why is the supporting facilities in food court are interesting to visit in this pandemic era? Each supporting facility has its own purposes in accommodating the community in urban society. The result of this research indicates that activities held in supporting facilities determine visitors and it is also expected to reduce the crowds. This research was carried out by descriptive research conducted in four semi-outdoor food court, selected by the different supporting facilities. It is hoped the result of this research will become recommendation in designing supporting facilities at semi-outdoor food courts to meet the health protocols during covid-19 pandemic.
