Abstract

Contemporary environmental degradation has intensified debates on how Islamic teachings on stewardship align or conflict with modern consumption patterns in Muslim-majority societies. Although the Qur’anic concept of khalifah positions humans as responsible caretakers of the earth, everyday consumer practices often reflect excess, materialism, and resource exploitation—revealing a gap between normative Islamic ethics and lived behaviors. This tension raises important questions regarding how Islamic environmental principles are interpreted, negotiated, and applied within modern consumer cultures. The study aims to analyze the extent to which Islamic principles of environmental sustainability—such as moderation (wasatiyyah), avoidance of waste (israf), and ecological stewardship—can be reconciled with prevailing consumption patterns influenced by globalization, digital markets, and lifestyle aspirations. The research also seeks to identify the cognitive, theological, and socio-cultural factors shaping Muslims’ ecological attitudes. A qualitative approach was employed using semi-structured interviews with Islamic scholars, educators, and urban Muslim consumers in Indonesia, complemented by textual analysis of classical and contemporary Islamic literature on environmental ethics. Thematic analysis was conducted to compare doctrinal ideals with empirical consumer behaviors. Findings reveal a strong theoretical foundation for sustainable living within Islamic teachings, yet significant inconsistencies remain between religious norms and actual consumer practices. Participants acknowledged environmental responsibilities but felt constrained by social expectations, market pressures, and limited institutional guidance. The study concludes that reconciling Islamic environmental ethics with modern consumption requires strengthening eco-theological literacy, promoting structural incentives for sustainable choices, and reinterpreting religious teachings in ways that resonate with contemporary lifestyles.

Abstract

Protected areas are critical for the conservation of tropical forests, which are among the most biodiverse ecosystems on the planet. These areas play a vital role in safeguarding wildlife, preserving ecological processes, and mitigating the impacts of climate change. However, the effectiveness of protected areas in achieving these conservation goals varies significantly. This review aims to assess the role of protected areas in conserving tropical forests by analyzing their effectiveness, management practices, and socio-economic impacts. The study seeks to identify best practices and challenges faced in the management of these areas. A comprehensive literature review was conducted, synthesizing findings from peer-reviewed articles, government reports, and case studies related to protected areas in tropical forest regions worldwide. Key metrics such as biodiversity outcomes, habitat preservation, and community engagement were evaluated. The findings indicate that well-managed protected areas significantly contribute to biodiversity conservation and forest preservation. However, challenges such as illegal logging, encroachment, and insufficient funding hinder their effectiveness. Successful case studies highlight the importance of community involvement and adaptive management strategies in enhancing conservation outcomes. The study concludes that protected areas are essential for conserving tropical forests, but their effectiveness is contingent upon effective management and stakeholder engagement. Strengthening governance frameworks and increasing funding for these areas are crucial for ensuring their long-term success in biodiversity conservation.

Abstract

The increasing global demand for timber and forest products has raised concerns about unsustainable forest practices, resulting in deforestation, biodiversity loss, and ecosystem degradation. Certification programs, such as FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) and PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification), have emerged as tools to promote sustainable forest management (SFM). These certifications aim to ensure that forests are managed in an environmentally responsible, socially beneficial, and economically viable manner. However, the effectiveness of certification in achieving these goals remains a topic of ongoing debate. This research aims to evaluate the role of forest certification programs in promoting sustainable forest management. Specifically, it investigates the impact of certification on forest practices, local communities, and the broader forest industry. A mixed-methods approach was adopted, combining qualitative interviews with forest managers, certification bodies, and local stakeholders, alongside quantitative analysis of forest management data in certified versus non-certified forests. Data were collected from various regions, including Southeast Asia, North America, and Europe. The findings reveal that certification programs positively influence forest management practices, leading to improved biodiversity conservation, better forest regeneration, and increased stakeholder engagement. However, challenges such as high certification costs, lack of awareness, and insufficient enforcement were identified as barriers to achieving full potential. Certification programs play a significant role in promoting sustainable forest management, though further efforts are needed to address barriers and enhance the inclusivity and effectiveness of these programs.

Abstract

Accurate quantification of forest carbon stocks is critical for global climate change mitigation initiatives like REDD+. Traditional forest inventory methods are often labor-intensive, costly, and limited in scale, particularly in complex tropical ecosystems such as the Sumatran rainforest. The integration of advanced remote sensing technologies and artificial intelligence (AI) offers a transformative potential for overcoming these limitations. This study aimed to develop and validate a high-resolution model for individual tree detection and above-ground biomass (AGB) estimation in a Sumatran rainforest by synergizing airborne LiDAR data with machine learning algorithms. High-density LiDAR data was acquired over a 10,000-hectare study area. Concurrently, extensive field inventory data from 150 plots were collected to serve as ground truth. A deep learning model, specifically a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), was trained to perform individual tree crown delineation (ITCD) from the LiDAR-derived canopy height model. Tree-level metrics were then used as predictors in a Random Forest algorithm to estimate AGB, which was calibrated against field-measured biomass. The CNN model successfully identified individual trees with an accuracy of 92.4%. The subsequent Random Forest model demonstrated high predictive power for AGB estimation, yielding a strong coefficient of determination ( = 0.89) and a low Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) of 25.8 Mg/ha. The approach generated a high-resolution (1-meter) AGB map, revealing detailed spatial variations in carbon stock across the landscape. The fusion of AI and LiDAR data provides a highly efficient methodology for forest inventory and AGB mapping in dense tropical rainforests. This approach significantly enhances our capacity to monitor carbon dynamics, forest conservation and climate policy.

Abstract

Parental styles play a significant role in shaping the development of children, influencing various aspects of their emotional, cognitive, and social growth. While much research has explored the immediate effects of parenting on children, few studies have examined these effects over an extended period. Understanding how different parental styles impact child development across time is essential for identifying long-term outcomes and informing parenting strategies. This study aims to investigate the long-term influence of different parental styles on child development, focusing on emotional regulation, social competence, and academic achievement. The goal is to explore how these parenting styles affect children at various developmental stages. A longitudinal design was employed, with data collected from 200 families over a span of 10 years. Parenting styles were categorized based on the authoritative, authoritarian, permissive, and uninvolved frameworks. Child development was measured using standardized assessments for emotional regulation, social competence, and academic performance. The findings revealed that children of authoritative parents showed higher levels of emotional regulation, better social skills, and stronger academic performance compared to children of authoritarian, permissive, or uninvolved parents. This study underscores the importance of authoritative parenting in fostering positive long-term outcomes in child development.

Abstract

Global trade and agricultural economics play a pivotal role in shaping food security worldwide. Price policies and international trade agreements significantly impact food availability, affordability, and access. This research examines how trade liberalization and protectionist policies affect food security outcomes in various countries, with a focus on the interplay between agricultural price policies and trade agreements. The primary objective of this study is to evaluate the effects of liberalized trade policies and price controls on food security across different regions. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining quantitative data analysis from global economic databases and qualitative insights from expert interviews. The results indicate that countries with liberalized trade policies and positive trade balances experienced reductions in food insecurity, while protectionist policies did not significantly improve food security, despite price control measures. The study highlights that trade liberalization, when paired with effective price stabilization, leads to improved food security. Conversely, protectionism tends to exacerbate food insecurity by limiting access to affordable food and increasing market volatility. This research emphasizes the need for a balanced approach to trade and price policies in fostering global food security.

Abstract

The increasing environmental concerns associated with plastic waste have prompted significant interest in biodegradable polymers. Organic chemistry plays a crucial role in developing these materials, facilitating the design of polymers that can efficiently degrade in natural environments. This study aims to explore the contributions of organic chemistry to the synthesis and characterization of biodegradable polymers. The focus is on understanding how chemical principles can be applied to create materials with improved degradation rates and functional properties. A comprehensive literature review was conducted, analyzing various biodegradable polymers synthesized through organic chemistry techniques. Experimental work involved synthesizing selected polymers, including polylactic acid (PLA) and polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA), and evaluating their physical and chemical properties through characterization methods such as spectroscopy and thermal analysis. Findings indicate that organic chemistry enables the tailored design of biodegradable polymers with enhanced properties. The synthesized PLA and PHA exhibited favorable degradation profiles and mechanical strengths, demonstrating their applicability in various fields, including packaging and biomedical applications. This research highlights the essential role of organic chemistry in advancing the development of biodegradable polymers.

Abstract

Nanotechnology and regenerative medicine are two rapidly evolving fields with the potential to transform healthcare by providing advanced solutions for tissue repair, disease treatment, and personalized medicine. The integration of nanotechnology with regenerative medicine offers the opportunity to enhance the efficacy of stem cell therapies, drug delivery systems, and tissue engineering, enabling more precise and effective treatments. Despite promising results, challenges remain regarding the scalability, biocompatibility, and long-term safety of nanomaterials in clinical applications. This study aims to explore the integration of nanotechnology with regenerative medicine to develop next-generation healthcare solutions. It focuses on evaluating the potential applications, challenges, and future directions of nanomaterial-based therapies in tissue regeneration and disease management. A systematic review of the current literature on nanotechnology and regenerative medicine was conducted. The review included studies on nanomaterials used for tissue engineering, drug delivery, and stem cell therapies. In vitro and in vivo research data were analyzed to assess the effectiveness and biocompatibility of nanomaterial-based approaches. The findings indicate that nanomaterial-based systems significantly improve the performance of regenerative medicine therapies, offering enhanced tissue regeneration, targeted drug delivery, and better integration with biological systems. However, issues like material stability and immune response remain. The integration of nanotechnology and regenerative medicine holds significant potential for advancing healthcare solutions. Addressing the current challenges will be critical for the successful translation of these technologies into clinical practice.

Abstract

The transition to a circular economy requires innovative financial practices to support sustainable business models and reduce environmental impact. Traditional financing mechanisms often focus on linear growth, emphasizing short-term profitability over long-term sustainability, which limits the adoption of circular practices. Circular economy financing aims to provide capital, incentives, and risk mitigation strategies that enable businesses to implement resource-efficient, regenerative, and waste-minimizing processes. This study investigates financial models that facilitate circular economy adoption, including green bonds, impact investing, leasing schemes, and public-private partnerships. A qualitative research design was employed, combining systematic literature review with case study analysis of firms implementing circular strategies across manufacturing, energy, and service sectors. Data were analyzed thematically to identify patterns in financing approaches, success factors, and barriers. Findings indicate that tailored financing mechanisms, such as performance-based loans and blended finance models, effectively support circular business innovations by aligning financial incentives with environmental and social outcomes. The study concludes that integrating innovative financial practices into circular economy initiatives can drive sustainable business transformation, enhance competitiveness, and reduce environmental footprint.

Abstract

Islamic finance has expanded within increasingly competitive global markets, intensifying tensions between Shariah normativity and economic pragmatism. Contemporary practices often prioritize formal compliance, raising concerns about whether legal structures genuinely reflect underlying ethical principles. This study aims to examine the jurisprudential limits of Shariah compliance by analyzing how market pressures influence legal reasoning and the construction of permissible financial practices. A qualitative normative–juridical research design is employed through systematic analysis of 96 legal documents, including fatwas, regulatory frameworks, and international standards across multiple jurisdictions. Analytical matrices and thematic coding are used to identify patterns of normativity, compliance, and market adaptation. The findings reveal that Shariah compliance operates as a dynamic spectrum, where hybrid frameworks dominate by balancing formal legality with market competitiveness. Normative alignment tends to weaken under high market pressure, leading to selective interpretation of jurisprudential principles. Institutional governance plays a critical role in mediating this tension, with centralized systems showing greater resistance to purely market-driven adaptations. The study concludes that Shariah compliance cannot be equated with substantive normativity and must be reconceptualized as a negotiated process shaped by jurisprudential flexibility and economic constraints.
