Abstract

This study is motivated by the challenges of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning in addressing the characteristics of Generation Alpha, who are considered digital natives a term referring to a generation born and raised in the digital era. On the one hand, technology offers learning effectiveness; on the other hand, it poses risks to the erosion of character and moral values. This study aims to analyze the challenges of PAI learning for Generation Alpha and to formulate a development model through the perspective of Ki Hajar Dewantara’s educational philosophy. The method used is qualitative with a library research approach, in which the primary data source refers to the book Karya Ki Hadjar Dewantara, Bagian Pertama: Pendidikan. The findings reveal that Dewantara’s concept of “Kodrat Zaman” legitimizes the use of technology, while “Kodrat Alam” and the “Among System” function as moral filters and character-guidance frameworks. The 3N strategy (Niteni, Nirokke, Nambahi) is proposed as an operational model in PAI technology, enabling students to shift from passive digital consumers to creative producers of da’wah content. The study concludes that the integration of PAI technology from Dewantara’s perspective is capable of creating adaptive learning while remaining rooted in the cultivation of noble character.

Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology has brought significant transformation to Islamic Religious Education (PAI). However, digitalization risks obscuring the essence of value internalization and character building if it lacks a strong philosophical foundation. This study aims to conceptualize the development of PAI learning technology by integrating Al-Farabi’s philosophical thoughts, specifically through the methods of imitation (al-takhyil) and habituation (al-’adah) in the digital era. This study employed a qualitative method with a library research design. A content analysis approach was used to dissect Al-Farabi's texts, which were then synthesized with modern learning technology concepts. The findings indicate that Al-Farabi’s perspective is highly relevant to the digital architecture of PAI. First, the method of imitation is actualized through the utilization of multimedia technology, Virtual Reality (VR), and social media as interactive instruments for visualizing digital role models (uswah hasanah). Second, the method of habituation is integrated through gamification-based habit tracker applications and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to encourage the consistent repetition of commendable behaviors. This integration demonstrates that technology serves not merely as a tool for cognitive transfer, but as a dynamic platform for character building that adapts to contemporary times.

The background of this research is based on the importance of forming disciplined character as a part of Islamic character education integrated into religious activities in elementary schools. The research method used is descriptive qualitative, with data collection techniques including observation, interviews, and documentation. The results indicate that the routine recitation of Ratibul Haddad, conducted every morning before classes, is able to foster disciplinary values in students, such as arriving on time, maintaining order, and adhering to school regulations. Furthermore, this activity fosters spiritual awareness and a sense of togetherness among students, while strengthening the religious culture within the school environment.
