Abstract

Unsignalized intersections often become critical points of traffic problems due to increasing traffic volume that is not balanced with intersection capacity, resulting in delays, queues, and potential conflicts, especially during peak hours. This condition also occurs at the Unida Intersection (Universitas Iskandarmuda) in Banda Aceh, which serves traffic movements from campus areas, residential zones, and surrounding commercial activities. This study aims to analyze traffic flow characteristics and intersection performance using the Indonesian Highway Capacity Guidelines (PKJI 2023). The data used include traffic volume and geometric conditions of the intersection, which are then analyzed based on parameters such as capacity, degree of saturation, delay, queue probability, and level of service. The results show that the highest traffic volume occurs during the afternoon peak hour, reaching 1,089 pcu/hour, with a degree of saturation of 0.65. The average intersection delay is 12.989 seconds per vehicle, with a queue probability ranging from 17.47% to 36.09%. The level of service is classified as C, indicating that traffic flow remains stable but begins to be affected by congestion. Overall, the intersection still operates adequately however, further evaluation is needed to anticipate future increases in traffic volume.

Abstract

This study analyzes the impact of compaction levels and paper pulp ratios on the compressive strength of papercrete blocks. The objective is to develop a lightweight building material that meets structural strength standards based on SNI 03-0348-1989. The base formulation combines cement and sand in a 1:3 ratio, with the sand volume substituted by paper at variations of 80%, 90%, and 100%. Density engineering was conducted by compressing the initial mixture volumes of 120%, 130%, 140%, and 150% into a standard size of 5 cm x 10 cm x 20 cm. Mechanical performance testing involved single blocks, paired blocks bonded with a 1 cm mortar joint, and conventional red bricks as a control comparison. Experimental results demonstrate that most papercrete variants qualify as structural materials within classes II, III, and IV. Only the 120PB100 sample failed to meet the standard classification. Interestingly, the standard red brick did not qualify for any strength class under the SNI framework. The highest mechanical performance was achieved by the 140PB80 variant, yielding a single-block compressive strength of 70.139 kg/cm². However, when evaluated in a paired formation, the strength of this 140PB80 sample reduced by 29.87% to 49.190 kg/cm².

Abstract

Road damage such as cracks, potholes, and uneven surfaces poses serious risks to transportation safety, logistics efficiency, and maintenance budgeting in Indonesia. Manual inspection is time consuming, labor intensive, and prone to error, motivating the use of reliable computer vision solutions. This study proposes MYCD, a hybrid and mobile ready architecture that combines the fast detection ability of YOLO with the dense feature reuse of DenseNet, enhanced by the Convolutional Block Attention Module (CBAM) for spatial and channel focus and Spatial Pyramid Pooling (SPP) for multi scale context understanding. The system detects and classifies the severity of road damage into minor, moderate, and severe categories using images captured by standard cameras. MYCD was trained and validated on 1,120 field images using an 80/20 split to simulate realistic deployment. Validation achieved 64 percent accuracy, with the highest per class precision of 0.72 for minor damage and mAP@0.5 = 0.677. The confusion matrix showed that most errors occurred in the moderate category because of visual similarity with minor and severe damage. Unlike earlier studies that extended YOLO with heavy backbones such as ResNet or EfficientNet, MYCD focuses on feature propagation (DenseNet), attention precision (CBAM), and multi scale fusion (SPP) optimized for real time operation on standard hardware. Efficiency profiling confirmed its deployability. After compression, the model size is 46.8 MB and it requires 3.7 GFLOPs per inference at 640×640 resolution. On a mid-range Android device (Snapdragon 778G, 8 GB RAM), MYCD runs at 19 frames per second with 1.2 GB peak memory. Compared with YOLOv8 WD (68 MB; 5.2 GFLOPs), MYCD reduces computation by 31 percent while maintaining similar accuracy. Overall, MYCD achieves a practical balance of speed, accuracy, and efficiency, providing a deployable and reproducible framework for real time road damage detection in resource limited settings.

Abstract

This study provides an understanding of the advantages of reinforced concrete in the construction of multi-story buildings in Banda Aceh. The objective of this research is to improve the efficiency of constructing the Class I Immigration Office Building in Banda Aceh by replacing the main structural system from steel to reinforced concrete. This change was carried out in accordance with the SNI 2847:2019 standard, utilizing the ETABS application for the design and analysis process. The results show that the total building weight in the existing condition (steel structure) is 1,594,043.95 kg, while using reinforced concrete increases the weight to 2,631,222.38 kg. At portal 5-5, the differences in bending moment and shear force between the steel and reinforced concrete structures are significant, with values of -2.9559 kNm and -80.0447 kNm for bending moment, and 3.5657 kN and 29.1996 kN for shear force, respectively. Additionally, the maximum lateral displacement in both X and Y directions is lower in the reinforced concrete structure compared to the steel structure. The axial force at portal 5-5 also shows an increase from -492.0887 kN (steel structure) to -949.2849 kN (reinforced concrete structure). These findings indicate that the use of reinforced concrete provides better stability, capacity, and overall structural performance compared to the steel structure

Abstract

The earthquake and subsequent tsunami that struck Banda Aceh at the end of 2004 caused extensive damage to various infrastructures, including the Laboratory Building of the Public Works Department of Banda Aceh City. This study aims to evaluate the variation in concrete strength between columns that were submerged during the tsunami and those that remained unaffected. A non-destructive testing (NDT) method was employed, using a Concrete Hammer Test device to assess the condition of the concrete. The testing was conducted on first-floor columns, with each column section tested 12 times at intervals of 3 cm between points. The results indicate a significant reduction in compressive strength, with the most severe decline observed in column K.6.4, where a 57% strength loss was recorded due to porous concrete conditions. The smallest reduction was found in columns K.1.9 and K.6.5, both showing a 5% decrease, while column K.1.7 exhibited no detectable deterioration. Overall, the majority of columns experienced notable degradation in structural integrity, underscoring the necessity for further comprehensive evaluations to determine the building’s continued feasibility and safety for use.

Abstract

Southeast Aceh Regency is one of the hazelnut-producing areas that produces large amounts of shell waste. This study aims to utilize hazelnut shell ash as a replacement filler in the Asphalt Concrete – Wearing Course (AC-WC) mixture with variations in 2%, 3%, and 4% levels, as well as an optimal asphalt content of 6.4%. The test was carried out using the Marshall Test method referring to the 2018 General Specification of Bina Marga to assess the parameters of stability, flow, Void in Mix (VIM), Void in Mineral Aggregate (VMA), Void Filled with Bitumen (VFB), and Marshall Quotient (MQ). The results of the study showed that all parameters met the specification limits of Bina Marga 2018. The stability value increased with the addition of filler content, from 1464.00 kg (2%) to 1749.67 kg (4%). The flow value is in the range of 2–4 mm, VIM is in the range of 3–5%, VMA is above 14%, and VFB is above 65%. Although the MQ value decreases with increasing filler levels, all values remain above the minimum standard. In conclusion, hazelnut shell ash is effectively used as an alternative filler that is able to improve the technical performance of the AC-WC mixture while providing environmental benefits through the use of organic waste
