Abstract

Hypertension stands as a perilous non-communicable disease, often leading to emotional instability among affected individuals. Symptoms like irritability, sleeplessness, and stress are commonly experienced by those with hypertension. Sleep quality is notably disrupted, with patients frequently experiencing discomfort and worry, often manifested as headaches, leading to disturbed sleep patterns. A multi-pronged approach is crucial for optimal results. Non-pharmacological interventions, combining health education with stress management techniques like progressive muscle relaxation (PMR) and deep breathing exercises, prove beneficial. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of this combined approach on the sleep quality of hypertensive patients, utilizing a quantitative pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest research design. The non-probability sampling technique employed accidental sampling, involving 17 hypertensive patients meeting specific criteria. The Wilcoxon Signed Ranks test yielded a significant result (p-value) of 0.000 ≤ 0.05. The combined intervention of health education, deep breath relaxation, and progressive muscle relaxation exhibited a positive impact on improving sleep quality among hypertensive patients. Further qualitative research is warranted to explore the experiences of hypertensive patients engaging in routine deep breath relaxation and progressive muscle relaxation therapies.

Abstract

Hypertension is an important health problem that the public needs to be aware of, because hypertension is also known as the silent killer. Hypertension treatment is lifelong so it needs to be combined with non-pharmacological treatment, such as the combine intervention of health education, deep breath relaxation, and progressive muscle relaxation.  Pharmacological management aims to reduce complications and prevent death by achieving and maintaining normal blood pressure. The purpose of this study was determining the effectiveness of the combination of health education, deep breath relaxation, and progressive muscle relaxation in reducing blood pressure. This study combines health education with deep breathing relaxation and progressive muscle relaxation. This study used a Pre-Experimental Design research design with One Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The sampling technique used non-probability sampling technique, namely accidental sampling. The sample taken was 17 people. Respondents were selected using inclusion and exclusion criteria. The data obtained was then analyzed using the dependent t-test. This study covers the characteristics of respondents consisted of age, gender, education and duration of illness. The results of the t test for measuring blood pressure (pre and post), both systolic and diastolic, showed a p-value <0.05 (0.000). There is a reduction in systolic and diastolic blood pressure after being given a combination of education and stress management interventions: progressive muscle relaxation and deep breath relaxation. The conclusion in this study is that the combination of education and stress management in people with hypertension has an influence on patient blood pressure.

Abstract

Functional decline and limited access to health services in rural areas are contributing factors to the low quality of life of the elderly. This community service program aims to improve the quality of life of the elderly through the implementation of community-based Activity Daily Living (ADL) fulfillment activities. The method used is the Community Based Research (CBR) approach which includes four stages: laying the foundation, planning, information gathering and analysis, and acting on finding. The activity was implemented through participatory education with interactive lecture techniques and practical simulations involving 100 elderly in Karangwerdha Ledokombo, Jember. The program evaluation was conducted using a knowledge questionnaire on quality of life through a pre-test and post-test mechanism. The results of the activity showed an increase in the quality of life of participants as indicated by an increase in the average score from 59.68 in the pre-test to 74.23 in the post-test. This increase was supported by the high participation of elderly in activities and the presence of social support from the surrounding environment. This activity concluded that community-based interventions through the fulfillment of ADL activities are effective in improving the quality of life of the elderly. Strengthening family and social support on an ongoing basis is needed to support the realization of healthy, independent, and productive elderly.

Abstract

Background: Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly used to support nursing education, particularly in preparing learners to manage emergency and critical care situations. However, evidence from randomized controlled trials (RCTs) remains fragmented. Objective: To map and characterize RCT evidence on AI-assisted learning in nursing education, with emphasis on emergency, resuscitation, and critical-care contexts. Methods: Scoping review following the PRISMA-ScR guideline and the Joanna Briggs Institute framework. Data Sources: PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus-indexed journals, ProQuest, and reference-list searching were conducted through July 2026. The articles screened studies and extracted data on study characteristics, interventions, comparators, and educational outcomes. Results: Fifteen RCTs (2016–2026) involving over 1,300 nurses and nursing students from nine countries were included. Nine studies evaluated AI-assisted learning in general nursing education, while six focused on emergency, resuscitation, or critical care. AI-based interventions included generative AI, chatbots, intelligent tutoring systems, virtual and augmented reality, and AI-integrated simulation. Most studies reported improvements in knowledge, clinical skills, or learner satisfaction. However, several found no significant advantage over conventional teaching and reported increased cognitive load or anxiety. Conclusion: AI-assisted learning has the potential to enhance emergency and critical care nursing education, particularly in psychomotor skills and clinical decision-making. Nevertheless, current evidence is limited by heterogeneous interventions, small single-center trials, and short follow-up, highlighting the need for larger multicenter RCTs with standardized outcome measures.
