Abstract

This study aimed to describe the implementation of differentiated instruction in the Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) subject at SD Negeri Donomulyo, Nanggulan Sub-district, Kulon Progo Regency. The research focused on planning, implementation, assessment, as well as the supporting and inhibiting factors of differentiated instruction. A qualitative approach with a case study design was employed. Research participants comprised a fifth-grade teacher, the school principal, fifth-grade students, parents, and the school committee chairperson. Data were collected through interviews, observation, and documentation. Data analysis followed the Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña interactive model, encompassing data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. The findings indicated that the planning of differentiated instruction began with assessing students’ learning needs, including readiness, interests, and learning styles. Instruction was implemented by grouping students according to visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning styles, with differentiation applied to content, process, and product. Assessment was conducted through diagnostic, formative, and summative measures in the form of process evaluation, tests, and product assessment. Supporting factors included the availability of facilities and infrastructure, support from the school principal, colleagues, the school committee, parents, and student enthusiasm. Inhibiting factors included time constraints, technical difficulties, challenges in determining appropriate forms of differentiation, budget limitations, and irregular in-service training. The study concluded that differentiated instruction in the IPAS subject had been implemented; however, further strengthening is needed in planning, strategy variation, assessment, and teacher competency development.

Abstract

Sotong Pangkong is a traditional Malay culinary heritage that reflects local wisdom, cultural identity, and philosophical and historical values passed down through generations, yet it has not received much academic study. This study aims to explore the philosophical values, historical development, and cultural significance of Sotong Pangkong as a Malay culinary heritage. The study used a qualitative approach with an ethnographic design. Data were obtained through participant observation, in-depth interviews with traditional food vendors, cultural practitioners, community leaders, and local historians, as well as analysis of historical documents and related literature. Data analysis was conducted using thematic analysis through data reduction, categorization, interpretation, and triangulation to ensure the credibility of the findings. The results show that Sotong Pangkong functions not only as a traditional food but also as a cultural symbol that represents the values of togetherness, simplicity, gratitude, and harmony of the Malay community with the coastal environment. Historically, this culinary tradition evolved from the fishing community's tradition of preserving seafood to become a cultural identity and culinary tourism attraction. Furthermore, Sotong Pangkong plays a role in maintaining collective memory, strengthening social cohesion, and supporting the preservation of intangible cultural heritage amidst the challenges of modernization. These findings contribute to the development of gastronomic studies, cultural education, and policies for the preservation of traditional Indonesian cuisine.

Abstract

In the field of education, communication skills and learning motivation play an important role in supporting academic success. Effective communication creates interactive learning, while high motivation encourages students to achieve optimal learning outcomes. However, in rural schools, students’ communication skills and learning motivation are still relatively low. This condition has an impact on students’ less optimal learning outcomes. Therefore, this study aims to improve communication skills, learning motivation, and IPAS learning outcomes through game-based learning for sixth-grade students of SD Negeri Klepu, Patuk, Gunungkidul. The research design used was Classroom Action Research (CAR). The CAR cycles consisted of a pre-cycle and two action cycles, each including planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The data were obtained from 23 sixth-grade students of SD Negeri Klepu. Data collection techniques included observation, questionnaires, and test results. Furthermore, the data were analyzed using descriptive quantitative analysis with percentages. The results of this study show: (1) an increase in the number of students with good communication skills from the pre-cycle (47.8%), Cycle I (56.52%), to Cycle II (78.26%); (2) an increase in students’ learning motivation from the pre-cycle (52.17%), Cycle I (65.25%), to Cycle II (82.60%); and (3) an increase in the number of students who achieved the Minimum Mastery Criteria (KKTP) of 75 from the pre-cycle (39.13%), Cycle I (60.86%), to Cycle II (86.96%).Thus, the implementation of game-based learning using crossword puzzle games has proven to improve communication skills, learning motivation, and IPAS learning outcomes of sixth-grade students at SD Negeri Klepu, Patuk, Gunungkidul, in the 2025/2026 academic year.   Keywords:   Communication skills, motivation, learning outcomes, game-based learning, crossword puzzles, IPAS learning.

Abstract

Learning motivation is an essential aspect in supporting the quality of the learning process; however, classroom practices that lack variation often result in low student engagement. The development of digital technology provides opportunities for educators to integrate interactive learning media as pedagogical strategies, one of which is the use of the Quizizz platform. This study aims to: (1) describe the implementation of Quizizz-based digital learning in classroom activities, (2) identify the forms of students’ learning motivation that emerge after the implementation of Quizizz, and (3) analyze the role of Quizizz as a pedagogical strategy in supporting students’ learning motivation. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach involving teachers and students at the secondary education level. Data were collected through classroom observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation, and were analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was ensured through source and technique triangulation. The findings indicate that: (1) the implementation of Quizizz-based digital learning was conducted in a structured manner through the stages of planning, implementation, and evaluation; (2) the use of Quizizz enhanced students’ learning motivation, as reflected in increased enthusiasm, active participation, and persistence during learning activities; and (3) interactive features, instant feedback, and competitive elements embedded in Quizizz contributed to students’ cognitive and affective engagement. Theoretically, these findings reinforce the perspective that the integration of gamification-based digital learning media functions as a motivational stimulus and enriches the discourse on learning motivation within digital learning contexts.
