Abstract

Data were obtained from Sembiring Deli Tua Hospital in Medan indicates that the number of patients with tennis elbow in January – June 2015 as many as 30 people suffering from tennis elbow on the elbow as a result of uncontrolled movement that lead to pain in the elbow area. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the transverse friction due to tennis elbow pain scale of the Elisabeth Hospital in Medan. This type of research is descriptive with the entire patient population that numbered 30 people tennis elbow, samples 23 people, the received data is primary data obtained directly from the respondents. Data were analyzed descriptively by looking at the percentage of the collected data. From the result of this study showed that in the entire sample frequency distribution of respondents by sex that many have tennis elbow is the female gender with a number of 15 people (65.2%), while the distribution of the samples by age that many have tennis elbow is the age of 30-35 years old (43.5%), while the distribution of the samples based on the job that many have tennis elbow is a housewife with a number of 10 people (43.5%).Based on this study it can be concluded that there is the influence of transverse friction in patients with tennis elbow.

Abstract

Carcinoma mammae is a malignant condition of breast tissue characterized by the uncontrolled proliferation of abnormal cells that form tumors, which may metastasize to other organs and become life-threatening if not properly treated. Cancer cells generally originate from the milk-producing lobules or the breast ducts. Mastectomy, as a primary therapeutic intervention, often leads to significant physical changes that can affect patients’ body image and self-confidence. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between body image and self-confidence among post-mastectomy carcinoma mammae patients. This research employed a quantitative approach with a survey design using questionnaires. The sample consisted of 51 respondents selected through a total sampling technique at Grandmed Hospital Lubuk Pakam. The frequency distribution results indicated that the majority of respondents had a positive body image perception, with 48 individuals (94.1%) agreeing and 3 individuals (5.9%) disagreeing. Meanwhile, the level of self-confidence among respondents was also relatively high, with 44 individuals (86.3%) agreeing and 7 individuals (13.7%) disagreeing. Statistical analysis using the chi-square test revealed a significant relationship between body image and self-confidence (p-value = 0.84; α < 0.05), indicating that the alternative hypothesis was accepted. These findings highlight the importance of effective body image management in enhancing patients’ self-confidence. Therefore, psychological interventions such as counseling, psychoeducation, and peer support are essential to facilitate patients’ adaptation and self-acceptance following mastectomy.

Abstract

Background: Myofascial Pain Syndrome is a common health problem where the main cause is repetitive injury. Various interventions can be performed to reduce pain and symptoms from MTrPs, one of which is dry needling (DN) and muscle energy technique (MET). Purpose: of this study is to determine the effect of DN, MET, and combination of DN+MET on pain at MTrPs m.upper trapezius. Research method quantitative three groups pre and post test design. Sample was taken using total sampling technique and total of 48 people with MTrPs m.upper trapezius obtained. Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) used to measure pain intensity. The statistical tests used are Wilcoxon signed ranked test and the Mann-Whitney U. Results and discussion: effect of DN intervention with P-Value= 0.000 (P<0.05), MET P-Value= 0.000 (P<0.05), Combination of DN+MET P-Value= 0.000 (P<0.05). Comparison of DN with MET P-Value= 0.001 (P<0.05), DN with combination of DN+MET P-Value= 0.030 (P<0.05), MET with a combination of DN+MET P-Value= 0.000 (P<0.05). Conclusion: based on statistical result DN, MET, and the combination of DN+MET had the same effect on reducing pain at MTrPs m.upper trapezius, where the DN+MET combination proved to be more effective and more recommended in the treatment of MTrPs m.upper trapezius. Abstract

Background: Physical, mental, and social well-being is defined as a condition that enables individuals to live a productive life. Exercise helps maintain health and enhances both physical and mental fitness. Volleyball, a physical sport that is increasingly popular in Indonesia, requires several physical attributes such as speed, explosive power, and agility to perform well. Sports are an effective way to maintain optimal physical and mental condition, while also fostering character, discipline, and sportsmanship. Volleyball continues to grow in popularity in Indonesia and is played at various levels of competition. The physical performance of volleyball athletes is crucial to achieving high performance, thus requiring specific training methods to improve physical attributes such as speed, power, and agility. Plyometric depth jump and plyometric box jump are two common forms of plyometric training used to improve lower limb muscle strength. However, despite the widespread application of plyometric training, the comparative effectiveness of various training methods in enhancing lower limb strength still requires further investigation. The aim of this study is to analyze and compare the effects of plyometric depth jump exercise and plyometric box jump exercise on increasing leg muscle strength in volleyball athletes. Methods: This study uses an experimental approach with a two-group pre-test and post-test design. A total of 12 selected volleyball athletes participated in a training program using either plyometric depth jump exercise or plyometric box jump exercise over a specific period. Leg muscle strength was measured using a leg dynamometer before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed using an independent t-test to determine the difference in the effect of plyometric depth jump exercise and plyometric box jump exercise on improving leg muscle strength of Diamond Medan volleyball athletes in 2024. Results and Discussion: The results of data analysis showed a significant increase in leg muscle strength after the intervention in both the plyometric depth jump exercise group and the plyometric box jump exercise group, with the simple paired t-test showing a p-value = 0.000 (<0.05). However, based on the independent t-test, a p-value of 0.326 (>0.05) was obtained, indicating that there was no significant difference between the two training methods in improving leg muscle strength. Conclusion: Both plyometric depth jump exercise and plyometric box jump exercise have an effect on increasing leg muscle strength in volleyball athletes. However, no significant difference was found between the two interventions in their effect on improving leg muscle strength

Abstract

Background: Neck pain in Cervical Root Syndrome (CRS) is caused by compression of cervical nerve roots due to trauma (e.g., whiplash injury), chronic forward head posture, or overuse. This condition radiates pain from the neck to peripheral innervated areas. McKenzie cervical exercise (extension movement) and Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) are interventions with potential to reduce pain through muscle strengthening and pain modulation mechanisms. Objective: To analyze the effect of combined McKenzie exercise and TENS on pain reduction in CRS patients at RS Grandmed Lubuk Pakam in 2025. Methods: A quasi-experimental study with a one-group pretest-posttest design involving 20 CRS patients. The intervention consisted of McKenzie exercise (cervical extension movements) and TENS (frequency 80–100 Hz, sensory intensity) administered twice weekly for 4 weeks (8 sessions). Pain was measured using a 0–10 mm Visual Analog Scale (VAS). Data were analyzed using a paired sample t-test (α = 0.05). Results: The mean pre-intervention pain score was 7.23 ± 1.245 (severe pain category), while the post-intervention score was 2.92 ± 1.256 (mild pain category). Statistical analysis revealed a significant reduction in pain (t = 19.23; df = 19; p < 0.001). Conclusion: The combination of McKenzie exercise and TENS significantly reduces pain (p < 0.001) in CRS patients. This intervention is recommended as a non-invasive modality for managing cervical pain.

Abstract

Breast cancer remains one of the most prevalent health problems among women and may cause long-term physical, psychological, social, and emotional consequences. Mastectomy, which is commonly performed as part of breast cancer treatment, can improve survival outcomes; however, postoperative changes in body appearance often affect body image, self-confidence, and the overall quality of life of survivors. In addition, weight fluctuations during the recovery period may influence Body Mass Index (BMI) and psychological well-being. This community service program aimed to improve breast cancer survivors’ knowledge and ability to adopt healthy lifestyle practices for maintaining an optimal BMI, increase awareness of physical and psychological health, and strengthen self-confidence following cancer treatment. The program was implemented using an educational-participatory approach through health education sessions, interactive discussions, nutritional status consultations, light physical activity demonstrations, and experience-sharing sessions. Evaluation was conducted using pretest and posttest assessments involving 20 breast cancer survivors aged 35–60 years at Grandmed Hospital, Lubuk Pakam. The results demonstrated that the proportion of participants with a good level of knowledge increased from 20.0% to 80.0%, while those with poor knowledge decreased from 45.0% to 0%. The mean knowledge score improved from 58.5 to 85.5, representing an increase of 27.0 points (46.2%). Furthermore, 90.0% of participants understood how to maintain an ideal BMI, 100.0% recognized the importance of regular physical activity, and 85.0% reported increased self-confidence after participating in the program. Participant satisfaction ranged from 75.0% to 85.0%. In conclusion, healthy lifestyle promotion was effective in improving knowledge, understanding, and self-confidence among breast cancer survivors, thereby supporting the adoption of sustainable healthy lifestyle behaviors.
