Abstract

The high rainfall, rapid urbanization, and the presence of impermeable surfaces have drastically increased surface runoff, overwhelming river systems with high water volumes. Changes in land use and rapid population growth further escalate flood risks. Analyzing planned discharge rates and flood control building planning becomes urgent to mitigate losses and risks caused by floods in the Wai Ruata watershed. Calculations indicate that for the Q100 Log Normal (2475.17 m3/s, the channel height is 2.50302 m, closely approximating public information (2.5 m), with a difference of 0.00302 m or 0.302 cm. This suggests that the calculated maximum flood water level based on planned discharge analysis using the rational method for Log Normal probability of 2.503 m is reasonably accurate. It can serve as a reference for flood control building design heights, potentially lasting around 100 years in the Wai Ruata watershed. Planned flood discharges in the Wai Ruata watershed are as follows: for a 2-year return period, 505.80 m3/s (Gumbel), 449.27 m3/s (Log Normal), 462.56 m3/s (Log-Pearson Type III); for a 50-year return period, 1868.80 m3/s (Gumbel), 2016.26 m3/s (Log-Normal), and 1837.18 m3/s (Log-Pearson); and for a 100-year return period, 2137.98 m3/s (Gumbel), 2475.17 m3/s (Log-Normal), 2166.93 m3/s (Log-Pearson). Gumbel planned flood discharge data can be used for a 25-year lifespan of water structures, whereas for a 100-year lifespan, Log-Normal planned flood discharge is more suitable.

Abstract

This study aims to inventory land resources and management practices of groundnut smallholder farms in the Ohoinol agricultural area. assess land suitability for groundnut in ZAE II.5. to create a land suitability map for groundnut based on predictions of relative production potential. The method used was survey method, analytical approach, free survey observation distance by conducting identification (boring) and making complete soil profiles and current land use in the sample area determined in 20 land units. The observation results found three types of soil, namely Rensina (Calsiudols), Litosol (Udorthents), and Cambisol (Eustrudepts), which were carried out on community gardens. Groundnut planting activities take place in the eastern season (summer) twice and the western season (rainy season) once. The length of the growth period (LGP) is about 240 days, compared to the peanut growth cycle of 90-140 days. the LGP has no impact on the peanut growth age of 90-140 (average 115 days) and a decrease in production; in other words, the LGP is optimal, namely 80-100% of the subsistence level production achievement of 1,305 Kg dry beans/ha (VS Class = S1). Assessment of groundnut suitability (rooting depth ± 30 cm) based on soil conditions in land units RL015 and RL215 (42 ha in total) is mostly very suitable and has no effect on reducing subsistence level production

Abstract

Application of organic matter (compost Sago Ela palm waste and Liquid Organic fertilizers (LOF)) to the soil could have major benefits, such as to improve the soil physical condition (soil structure, water retention), and soil chemical properties (binding and providing nutrients, increasing CEC). The purpose of this study are (1) to improve the soil chemical properties of Ultisols, and (2) to increase plant uptake of N, P, and K, and the growth and yield of corn (Zea mays L.). The research was conducted in the field, namely in Telaga Kodok Village, Leihitu Sub District, and Central Maluku District. The experiment was designed in a factorial, and arranged in a randomized completed block design (RCBD).  The first factor was the provision of compost Sago Ela palm waste (K) and the second factor was the provision of liquid fertilizer (C). The results showed that the compost combined with LOF could improve pH, Al-exchangeable, Total-N, P-available soil, Uptake-P, Uptake-K, and the dry weight of seed corn. While the treatment of sago Ela palm waste compost and LOF can independently raise the K-available soil, N-uptake, and affect corn’s plant growth (height and trunk diameter). The treatment doses of sago Ela palm waste compost of 60 Mg ha-1 and LOF of 20 mL L-1 solution can increase the exchangeable Al, Total-N, and P-available soil, respectively 0.56 cmol(+)kg-1, 0.21%, and 31.00 mg kg-1; also able to increase the uptake of P, K, and weight dry seed corn respectively 0.21% and 1.26%, and 121.33 g plant-1. The treatment doses of Sago Ela palm waste compost of 60 ton ha-1 and liquid organic fertilizer of 10 mL L-1 solution can increase the soil pH by 5.70.

Abstract

Whereas many studies highlight positive environmental and socio-economic effects of agroforestry systems, the agro-economic effect of Dusun practices as indigenous agroforestry systems has rarely been studied in detail, particularly in small island-Maluku Indonesia. This article examines the agro-economic of tropical perennial and annual fruit crops in the Dusun systems in Ambon city islands. A survey was conducted in three different Dusuns to obtain data through in-depth interviews of 88 heads of households. Our findings indicate that most Dusun farmers are uneducated and old age, half of them have small size of land, and 95% of land status belongs to kinship-clan ownership. Then, half of the farmers have an elementary school education, and 71% have a primary job as farmers, while 29% have a secondary job on the farm and non-farm activities. Amongst 26 crops that are found in three Dusun areas, nine crop types can be found in the whole Dusun, while the rest are located in one or two Dusun only. These crops are grown together and form multiple cropping structures from high stratum like durian and coconut to medium strata such as clove and nutmeg and low strata such as vegetables and tubers. The structures of the crops have an important role in maintaining biodiversity, minimizing soil erosion, water reservoir, and supporting socio-economic of the households. Annual income from rural household was estimated at around US$6487 or US $3.6/capita/day. Income average value was almost two folds of the World Bank poverty line standard. Nearly 80% of the total income are contributed by four main crops, i.e. clove (Eugenia aromaticum), durian (Durio zibethinus Mur), nutmeg (Myristica fragnans), and duku (Lansium domesticum), of which 11% is contributed predominantly by snake fruit (Salacca zallaca var amboniensis Becc), mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana L) and langsat (Lansium domesticum).
