Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the effect of moringa leaf flour addition at concentrations of 0%, 5%, 10%, and 15% on the sensory quality of crackers and to identify the most acceptable formulation based on consumer preference. The study employed a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with three replications. Organoleptic evaluation was conducted with 30 untrained panelists using a 5-point hedonic scale to assess color, aroma, taste, and texture. The data were analyzed using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), followed by Tukey’s HSD test at a significance level of α = 0.05. The results showed that moringa leaf flour addition had a significant effect on all organoleptic attributes (p < 0.05). The formulation containing 10% moringa leaf flour showed the most balanced sensory profile, with mean hedonic scores of 3.60 for aroma, 3.47 for texture, 3.10 for taste, and 3.03 for color. These scores ranged from neutral to approaching like, indicating that the 10% formulation was relatively the most acceptable formulation compared with the other treatments.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the effect of implementing the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model on eighth-grade students’ science learning outcomes. This study employed a quantitative quasi-experimental approach with a nonequivalent control group design. The sample consisted of 53 eighth-grade students who were assigned to an experimental class and a control class. The experimental class was taught using the PBL model, whereas the control class received conventional instruction. Data were collected using a multiple-choice test administered before and after the treatment as a pretest and posttest. The test was designed to measure students’ cognitive learning outcomes in science. The data were analyzed using an independent samples t-test after the initial abilities of the two groups were examined. The results indicated that the two groups had relatively equivalent initial abilities before the intervention. After the treatment, the experimental class achieved a higher posttest mean score than the control class, and the difference between the groups was statistically significant. These findings suggest that PBL is more effective than conventional instruction in improving students’ science learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the phylogenetic relationship of coral trout groupers (Plectropomus spp.) in the waters of Liang Village, Banggai Kepulauan Regency, based on morphological characters. The research employed a descriptive exploratory method with quantitative and qualitative approaches. Samples were collected using purposive sampling, obtaining 15 individuals representing five species: Plectropomus leopardus, Plectropomus oligacanthus, Plectropomus maculatus, Plectropomus areolatus, and Plectropomus leavis. Morphological observations included 25 morphometric characters, 11 meristic characters, and 4 qualitative characters. Data were analyzed using Principal Component Analysis (PCA) to identify the main morphological characters contributing to variation among species, followed by cluster analysis using the Unweighted Pair Group Method with Arithmetic Mean (UPGMA) to assess phylogenetic relationships. The results indicated that the physicochemical conditions of the waters in Liang Village were suitable to support coral trout grouper populations. PCA results showed that the first two principal components (PC1 and PC2) explained 73.31% of the total morphological variation, with interorbital length, dorsal fin base length, and body depth contributing most significantly to species differentiation. The UPGMA dendrogram revealed that Plectropomus leopardus exhibited the closest phylogenetic relationship with Plectropomus areolatus and Plectropomus oligacanthus, while Plectropomus maculatus showed the greatest morphological divergence and formed a separate cluster. These findings demonstrate that morphological characters are effective in revealing phylogenetic relationships among Plectropomus species in the studied waters.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the macronutrient composition of seaweed noodles (Eucheuma cottonii) formulated with different levels of seaweed flour substitution and to develop the research findings into a poster-based learning medium. A laboratory experiment was conducted using a one-factor completely randomized design (CRD) comprising four treatments: P0 (100% wheat flour:0% seaweed flour), P1 (90%:10%), P2 (80%:20%), and P3 (70%:30%), with three replicates per treatment. Carbohydrate, protein, and fat contents were determined using the Anthrone, Biuret, and Soxhlet methods, respectively. Macronutrient data were analyzed using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) at a 5% significance level, followed by the least significant difference (LSD) test. Seaweed flour substitution significantly affected the carbohydrate, protein, and fat contents of the noodles. The carbohydrate contents of P0, P1, P2, and P3 were 56.278%, 71.631%, 68.402%, and 65.490%, respectively. The corresponding protein contents were 4.355%, 7.441%, 6.458%, and 5.337%, while the fat contents were 1.117%, 1.262%, 1.097%, and 0.896%, respectively. Among the tested formulations, P1 exhibited the highest carbohydrate and protein contents. The poster-based learning medium received feasibility scores of 85% from the content expert, 85% from the design expert, 85% from the media expert, and 90% from the student participants, yielding an overall mean score of 86.25% and placing it in the highly feasible category. These findings demonstrate that E. cottonii substitution affects the macronutrient profile of noodles and that the resulting research findings can be effectively developed into a feasible research-based learning medium.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the protein content of Anguilla marmorata collected from Lake Talaga, Dampelas District, Donggala Regency, and to explore its potential for development as a learning medium. A descriptive quantitative approach was employed. Protein content was determined using the Biuret method coupled with UV–Vis spectrophotometry, with Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) used as the standard. The protein contents obtained from three replicate measurements were 19.61%, 19.37%, and 20.43%, respectively, with a mean value of 19.80% and a range of 19.37–20.43%. These results indicate that the analyzed A. marmorata sample had a relatively high protein content, with consistent values across replicate measurements. The feasibility assessment of the developed flipbook yielded an overall mean score of 87.85%, corresponding to the “highly feasible” category. The content expert, media expert, and design expert assessments were 92.5%, 78.5%, and 88.0%, respectively, while the student response score was 92.4%. Overall, this study provides preliminary information on the protein content of A. marmorata from Lake Talaga and demonstrates the potential of the research findings to be integrated into a flipbook as a contextual learning resource for biology and nutrition-related topics.
