Abstract

This study aims to assess immobility time in Sham group mice (Mus musculus), assess the effect of fluoxetine antidepressant on immobility time in mice (Mus musculus), assess the impact of bandotan leaf extract antidepressant (Ageratum conyzoides lin) on immobility time in mice (Mus musculus), evaluate the antidepressant effectiveness of the combination of bandotan leaf extract (Ageratum conyzoides lin) with fluoxetine on immobility time in mice (Mus musculus), and compare the efficacy of the four groups, namely group 1 (Sham), group 2 (fluoxetine), group 3 (bandotan leaf extract (Ageratum conyzoides lin)), and group 4 (Fluoxetine with bandotan leaf extract (Ageratum conyzoides lin)). This study uses a type of quantitative approach and pure experimental method (true experimental research) with Posttest only Control Group Design research design. The results showed that the mean immobility time in mice (Mus musculus) group 1 (Sham) was for 34 ± 22.1 seconds. The average immobility time in mice (Mus musculus) group 2 (Fluoxetine) is for 162.5 ± 44.43 seconds. The average immobility time in mice (Mus musculus) group 3 (Bandotan leaf extract) was 172.67 ± 40.5 seconds. The average immobility time in mice (Mus musculus) group 4 (Combination of fluoxetine with bandotan leaf extract) was 118.83 ± 24.1 seconds. The combination of fluoxetine with bandotan leaf extract has significance (p-value 0.039 <0.05) as an antidepressant in reducing immobility time in mice so that bandotan leaves can act as adjuvant therapy.

Abstract

Abstract

Non-hemorrhagic stroke is the most common type of stroke and a leading cause of morbidity and disability. This condition is generally triggered by blood flow disorders due to atherosclerosis, thrombosis, or embolism, with clinical manifestations such as sudden weakness, speech disorders, and decreased consciousness. In Indonesia, including South Sulawesi, the prevalence of stroke remains high, making the identification of risk factors and clinical symptoms crucial for optimal management. This study aims to describe in detail the risk factors for non-hemorrhagic stroke in patients recorded in the medical records of Ibnu Sina YW UMI Hospital in Makassar from 2023 to 2024, as well as to describe in detail the clinical manifestations of non-hemorrhagic stroke in patients recorded in the medical records of Ibnu Sina YW UMI Hospital in Makassar from 2023 to 2024. This study was conducted using a descriptive design through a cross-sectional approach. This type of research is quantitative. The results showed that the most dominant risk factor in non-hemorrhagic stroke patients at Ibnu Sina YW UMI Hospital in Makassar in 2023–2024 was hypertension (92.3%). Other risk factors found were family history (57.7%), genetic factors (53.8%), diabetes mellitus (23.1%), history of heart disease (13.5%), and dyslipidemia (11.5%). These findings indicate that the majority of patients had more than one risk factor, with hypertension being the main factor contributing to cerebral ischemia. The most common clinical manifestations were hemiparesis (90.4%), followed by vertigo (44.2%), ataxia (36.5%), aphasia (34.6%), nausea and vomiting (19.2%), and hemianesthesia (11.5%). This pattern shows that neurological deficits in the form of motor disorders are the most prominent symptoms in non-hemorrhagic stroke patients. This study shows that hypertension is the most dominant risk factor in non-hemorrhagic stroke patients, accompanied by family history and genetic factors. The most common clinical manifestations were hemiparesis, followed by vertigo, ataxia, and aphasia. These findings emphasize the importance of early detection of risk factors and recognition of characteristic neurological symptoms for the optimization of non-hemorrhagic stroke management.

Abstract

Abstract

Early detection of non-communicable disease risk factors through health education and screening among campus cleaning staff in Makassar. Non-communicable diseases are the leading cause of death worldwide and in Indonesia, yet cleaning staff as support workers in higher education institutions are rarely targeted by early detection programmes. This community service activity aimed to detect non-communicable disease risk factors early and to deliver health education to cleaning staff at the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Muslim Indonesia, Makassar. Conducted on 29 August 2025 using a participatory approach, it comprised three integrated stages: group health education, health screening, and individual counselling. Screening covered body weight, height, waist circumference, blood pressure, random blood glucose, and total cholesterol. All cleaning staff on duty were enrolled by total sampling, and the data were analysed descriptively. Of the 36 participants, 32 (88.9%) were women, with a mean age of 42.6 ± 11.9 years, and 23 (63.9%) had completed junior secondary education or less. Obesity was found in 18 participants (50.0%) and overweight in 8 (22.2%). Central obesity was identified in 23 participants (63.9%), comprising 21 of 32 women (65.6%) and 2 of 4 men (50.0%). Suboptimal blood pressure was found in 25 participants (69.4%), of whom 16 (44.4%) met the criteria for hypertension. Five participants (13.9%) were prediabetic and 3 (8.3%) diabetic, while 4 (11.1%) had borderline total cholesterol. All participants with abnormal results received counselling and referral to primary health care. These findings confirm a high burden of non-communicable disease risk factors among cleaning staff, particularly women.
