Abstract

Reservoir rocks are characterized by their ability to allow water to infiltrate beneath the surface, enabling them to store and transmit fluids due to their permeability. Porosity refers to the presence of pores or void spaces within rocks, which determines their capacity to store fluids. Therefore, the porosity of a rock plays a significant role in the volume of liquid or gas it can contain. The study area is located within the Ql Formation, and no prior research has been conducted on limestone reservoir rocks in Buhudaa Village, Batudaa Pantai Subdistrict, Gorontalo Regency. The research covers an area of approximately 3.3 km², including the villages of Buhudaa, Bongo, and Lopo. This study aims to map the geological conditions of the Buhudaa area and analyze the lithological characteristics and quality of limestone as a groundwater reservoir. The methods employed include petrographic analysis and specific gravity testing. The results indicate that the geomorphological conditions of the area consist of structural and low-structural hills. The limestone was classified into three lithofacies: Mudstone, Wackestone, and Packstone. Geological structures were identified using linear lineament analysis, which distinguished ridges and valleys. The dominant orientation of these features trends northeast–southwest. Based on Koesoemadinata’s (1980) classification, the quality of limestone as a reservoir rock in the study area ranges from fair to very good.

Abstract

The geological conditions in the northern part of Lake Limboto vary greatly from the constituent rocks to the working geological structures. Lithological variations consist of volcanic and plutonic rocks to limestone. The area where limestone is widely distributed is in the North Isimu Region, Gorontalo Regency. This research aims to analyze the geological conditions, microfacies and depositional environment of limestone in the North Isimu Region, Gorontalo Regency. The research methods used to achieve this goal consist of field surveys and petrographic laboratory analysis. Field surveys include taking rock samples, taking coordinate points, taking elevation, geomorphological observations, observing geological structures and taking field documentation. Meanwhile, petrographic analysis of rocks uses a polarizing microscope as a tool to follow up megascopic observations. Observation of rock incisions under a microscope using cross nicol and parallel nicol. Based on the results and discussion, it shows that the geomorphology of the research area includes structural hills with sub-parallel river flow patterns. The geological structure of the research area is a descending fault trending northwest-southeast. The research area is divided into four facies, namely foraminifera wackestone, crystalline limestone, foraminifera algae packstone and coralline floatstone. Standard microfacies (SMF) in the North Isimu Region consists of three SMF namely SMF-3, SMF-4 and SMF-5 with two limestone depositional environmental zones namely toe of slope (FZ-3) and slope (FZ-4). FZ-3 was deposited at the end of the foreslope zone and FZ-4 was deposited seaward of the foreslope from the edge of the carbonate debris platform. Keywords: Limestone; Microfacies; Depositional Environment; North Isimu

Abstract

This research was conducted in the Mananggu area and its surroundings, Mananggu District, Boalemo Regency, Gorontalo Province. The study aims to map the geological conditions and identify the characteristics of geomorphology and geological structures developed in the area. The methods employed included surface geological mapping for field data collection, followed by laboratory analyses. Geomorphologically, the research area is divided into two units: the Volcanic Hills Unit and the Structural Hills Unit. The stratigraphy consists of the Eocene-Oligocene Porphyritic Andesite Unit (Tinombo Formation) and the Pliocene Granite Unit (Bumbulan Granodiorite Formation) acting as an intrusive body. The geological structures are controlled by a transtensional regime resulting from compression, manifested as NW-SE shear joints, right normal slip faults, and normal right slip faults. The landscape evolution is strongly influenced by the interplay between the resistance of the igneous lithologies and the active tectonic deformation that shapes the drainage patterns and slope configurations.

Abstract

This study summarizes various studies on the use of remote sensing technology, both multispectral and radar, in the fields of geology, hydrology, and the environment. The main journals reviewed show that satellite imagery such as Landsat TM, Landsat 8 OLI/TIRS, Sentinel-2, ASTER, and LiDAR radar data play a significant role in identifying the physical characteristics of the earth, such as soil moisture, mineralization, lithology, suspended sediments, and surface deformation due to tectonic activity. The use of multispectral imagery is effective in mapping lithology and minerals, while radar and LiDAR remote sensing excel in morphological analysis, geological structure, and hydrodynamic modelling of flood inundation. Overall, remote sensing has proven to be an efficient, time-saving, and accurate tool in supporting geological resource exploration, topographic mapping, and natural disaster mitigation. The integration of various image data sources increases the validity of interpretation results and can be an important basis for decision-making related to spatial planning, mineral exploration, and environmental management in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the geochemical characteristics of andesite rocks within the Tinombo Formation located in Biluhu Barat Village, Biluhu District, Gorontalo Regency. Data collection was conducted through geological mapping and geochemical analysis using X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) to determine the magma series, magma type, and tectonic setting of the rock origin. The results show that the study area consists of porphyritic andesite and granodiorite units. Geochemical data indicate that the andesite rocks belong to the calc-alkaline magma series, with rock types identified as andesite and basaltic andesite. Geochemical diagrams reveal that the rocks originated from an Island Arc Calc-Alkaline Basalt tectonic setting. The calculated magma source depth ranges from 156 to 164 km, indicating magmatic processes occurring within a subduction zone. This study contributes to a better understanding of the tectonic framework and magmatic evolution in the Gorontalo region.

Abstract

This study aims to identify and understand the geological characteristics and groundwater aquifer potential in the study area. The research methods employed include surface geological mapping, borehole data interpretation, as well as lithology and structural geology analysis. The results indicate that the geological formations in the study area are predominantly composed of sedimentary and volcanic rocks with significant lithological variations, such as sandstone, claystone, and tuff. The identified geological structures, including folds and faults, influence the distribution of aquifers and groundwater flow. Aquifers in the study area are categorized into unconfined and confined aquifers, with the highest potential found in sandstone layers due to their high porosity and permeability. These findings are expected to serve as an important foundation for the sustainable management of groundwater resources in the study area.
