Abstract

Minor wounds are common health problems in daily life and may lead to infection if not managed properly. In many communities, home-based wound care practices are still influenced by traditional habits and a lack of medically validated information. This community service program aimed to improve public knowledge regarding simple wound management at home as a preventive measure against infection. The activity was conducted in Mangir Kidul Hamlet, Sendangsari Village, Pajangan Subdistrict, Bantul Regency using a pre-experimental design with a one-group pre-test and post-test approach. A total of 30 adult participants were selected through purposive sampling. Health education was delivered through interactive lectures and demonstrations of simple wound care techniques. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire that had undergone content validity and reliability testing. The results showed an increase in the mean knowledge score from 56.3 in the pre-test to 82.7 in the post-test. Wilcoxon signed-rank test analysis indicated a statistically significant difference in knowledge scores before and after the educational intervention (p < 0.05). This program demonstrates that simple wound care education is effective in improving community knowledge and has the potential to reduce the risk of wound infection at the household level.

Abstract

Anemia is a common health problem among adolescent girls and may affect physical health, academic performance, and quality of life. Limited knowledge and awareness regarding anemia and its prevention contribute to the high prevalence of anemia in this group. This community service activity aimed to improve the knowledge and awareness of adolescent girls regarding anemia prevention through health education activities. The program was conducted in Sawahan 5, Gunung Kidul Regency, involving 30 adolescent girls. The method applied was face-to-face health education through lectures, discussions, and question-and-answer sessions using presentation media and leaflets. Evaluation was carried out using pre-test and post-test to assess changes in participants’ knowledge levels. The results showed an increase in knowledge after the education program, indicated by an improvement in the good knowledge category from 20.0% to 66.7% and a decrease in the poor knowledge category. These findings indicate that health education and socialization activities are effective in increasing adolescent girls’ understanding of anemia and its prevention and may support the adoption of healthy behaviors from an early age.

Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology has made digital media a primary source of health information for the public. However, easy access to information also increases the risk of health misinformation, which may negatively affect health-related decision making. This activity aimed to improve community digital health literacy to prevent health misinformation through an educative–participatory approach. A pre-experimental design with a one group pre-test and post-test was applied. The intervention consisted of interactive education sessions, group discussions, and case studies using common health information found on social media platforms. The results indicated improvements in participants’ knowledge, critical attitudes, and ability to evaluate the credibility of digital health information. Participants became more cautious and selective in accepting and sharing health-related content. These findings suggest that strengthening digital health literacy is an effective promotive and preventive strategy to address health misinformation challenges in the digital era.

Abstract

Background: Stunting is a condition of stunted growth due to chronic malnutrition and repeated infections, impacting a child's physical and cognitive development. Prevention can begin in adolescence, particularly in young women who are prospective mothers. The role of parents in providing balanced nutrition and PHBS is crucial to reducing stunting rates. In Yogyakarta Special Region, the stunting prevalence is 18%, with Gunungkidul being the highest at 22.2%. Objective: To increase parental understanding and involvement in supporting healthy eating patterns and PHBS to prevent stunting in adolescents. Methods: This community service activity lasted four weeks with 35 parents of students from Patuk 1 Junior High School as participants. The program included socialization and education on balanced nutrition and PHBS, training in developing healthy menus, interactive discussions, and monitoring and evaluation of changes in family eating and hygiene patterns to prevent stunting. Results: This program increased parental understanding of balanced nutrition and PHBS, as evidenced by a 35% increase in understanding scores. Parents began adopting healthy eating patterns with more protein and vegetables. Adolescent awareness also increased, as evidenced by better personal hygiene practices and consumption of nutritious foods. Conclusion: Optimizing the role of parents in supporting balanced nutrition and PHBS has proven to be an effective step in preventing stunting in adolescents.
