Abstract

Adolescence is a transitional period from childhood to adulthood, characterised by high levels of curiosity that require positive guidance. Teenage pregnancy is a significant public health issue in many developing countries, including Indonesia. Teenage pregnancy can have various impacts on both the mother and the baby. Physically, adolescents are not ready to conceive or give birth, which makes them vulnerable to complications that can be fatal. This study aimed to explore the need for parental support in preventing teenage pregnancy among adolescents. A qualitative, phenomenological approach was used, involving three pregnant adolescents under the age of 18 in Bantul, Special Region of Yogyakarta. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, transcribed, coded and analysed to identify patterns in the participants' experiences and perceptions. The results showed that adolescents need support from their parents in the form of emotional attention, intimacy, open communication, a harmonious home environment and guidance on reproductive health. Such support enables adolescents to feel safe and comfortable discussing personal issues, thereby reducing the risk of risky sexual behaviour and unwanted pregnancies. This study emphasises the importance of building “bridges” of communication and support between adolescents and parents as a strategy for preventing teenage pregnancy.

Abstract

Minor wounds are common health problems in daily life and may lead to infection if not managed properly. In many communities, home-based wound care practices are still influenced by traditional habits and a lack of medically validated information. This community service program aimed to improve public knowledge regarding simple wound management at home as a preventive measure against infection. The activity was conducted in Mangir Kidul Hamlet, Sendangsari Village, Pajangan Subdistrict, Bantul Regency using a pre-experimental design with a one-group pre-test and post-test approach. A total of 30 adult participants were selected through purposive sampling. Health education was delivered through interactive lectures and demonstrations of simple wound care techniques. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire that had undergone content validity and reliability testing. The results showed an increase in the mean knowledge score from 56.3 in the pre-test to 82.7 in the post-test. Wilcoxon signed-rank test analysis indicated a statistically significant difference in knowledge scores before and after the educational intervention (p < 0.05). This program demonstrates that simple wound care education is effective in improving community knowledge and has the potential to reduce the risk of wound infection at the household level.

Abstract

Routine health checks are essential strategies for the early detection of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in communities. This study was conducted in Dusun Mangir Tengah, Sendangsari, Pajangan, Bantul Regency, involving 68 residents aged <20 years (15), 21–40 years (25), and >40 years (28). The examination included blood pressure, blood glucose, uric acid, and cholesterol, accompanied by brief education on healthy lifestyle management. Results indicate that blood pressure increases with age, with residents >40 years classified as hypertensive or prehypertensive. Most participants had normal blood glucose and uric acid levels, though some adults and elderly approached high thresholds. Cholesterol levels were elevated in older adults, indicating potential risks of heart disease and hypertension. These findings emphasize the importance of community-based health screening as a tool for early detection, education, and preventive intervention. Regular educational programs, periodic screenings, and health promotion activities are recommended to enhance community awareness and enable effective NCD risk management

Abstract

Abstract

Adolescents face academic and social pressures that can trigger stress and anxiety, requiring educational interventions to improve coping skills. This community service activity aimed to provide mental health education to adolescents in Dusun Manukan, Kalurahan Sendangsari, Kapanewon Pajangan, Bantul Regency, and enhance their understanding of early detection strategies for stress and anxiety. Methods included interactive education, group discussions, and Q&A sessions, involving 34 active adolescents. Activity stages included material preparation and coordination, educational implementation, and evaluation through Q&A and participant observation. Results indicated increased understanding of stress, anxiety, and coping strategies, especially in recognizing early stress signs and managing emotional responses adaptively. This initiative highlights the importance of empowering adolescents as mental health agents in the community while strengthening preparedness and social skills. Abstract

Cervical cancer is one of the leading causes of female mortality in Indonesia, yet public awareness regarding early detection and HPV vaccination remains low, particularly in rural areas. Socio-cultural barriers and a lack of information are the primary obstacles to preventive efforts. This community service activity aims to improve health literacy regarding the importance of HPV vaccination and Visual Inspection with Acetic Acid (VIA) screening at the village level. The method employed was public health education using a persuasive-educative approach through lectures, visual media, and props demonstrations. The target participants consisted of 20 adolescent girls and 25 women of childbearing age. Evaluation was conducted quantitatively through pre-test and post-test scores and qualitatively through observations of participant responses. The results showed a significant increase in knowledge, with the highest improvement in the function and methods of VIA screening at 47%. Prior to the education, participants tended to have misconceptions and fear of medical procedures; however, post-intervention, participant awareness increased positively. The conclusion of this activity is that community-based socialization is effective in shifting the public paradigm from reactive to proactive, as well as eliminating negative stigmas toward early detection of cervical cancer.

Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology has made digital media a primary source of health information for the public. However, easy access to information also increases the risk of health misinformation, which may negatively affect health-related decision making. This activity aimed to improve community digital health literacy to prevent health misinformation through an educative–participatory approach. A pre-experimental design with a one group pre-test and post-test was applied. The intervention consisted of interactive education sessions, group discussions, and case studies using common health information found on social media platforms. The results indicated improvements in participants’ knowledge, critical attitudes, and ability to evaluate the credibility of digital health information. Participants became more cautious and selective in accepting and sharing health-related content. These findings suggest that strengthening digital health literacy is an effective promotive and preventive strategy to address health misinformation challenges in the digital era.
