Abstract

This study aims to determine the students' higher order thinking skills (HOTS) in subject of relation and function. This type of research is a qualitative research with the research subjects being class VIII-1 of SMPN 1 Tanjunganom in the academic year 2020/2021 with a total of 32 students. The data obtained from the HOTS test and interviews. Analysis data used in the form of Bloom's taxonomy analysis. From the results of research conducted by researchers, it shows that the taxonomic percentages of blooms based on each level of C4 (analyze), C5 (evaluate), and C6 (create) are 61.98%, 47.17%, and 48.96%. From the results of the study, the students' HOTS abilities were 1 student in the very good category, 6 students in the good category, 22 students in the sufficient category, 3 students in the poor category, and no students in the very poor category

Abstract

This study focuses on analyzing the application of differential equations in modeling the population growth of Kediri City through a logistic growth model, and aims to predict the city's population for the years 2021-2030. Employing a literature study approach, this research utilizes secondary data sourced from the official website of the BPS (Central Statistics Agency) of Kediri City. The data encompasses population figures from 2005 to 2020. To ensure the accuracy of the population predictions made by the logistic growth model, a comparison with the official data from the Central Statistics Agency is necessary. A critical aspect of this research involves estimating the carrying capacity of Kediri City's population, which is identified as 295,672 individuals in the year 2030. The findings indicate a significant growth trend in the population, characterized by a specific growth rate. To validate the accuracy of the logistic growth model, the Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) method was applied, resulting in an error percentage that falls within the highly accurate category, thus affirming the reliability of the model in predicting population growth trends.

Abstract

Differences in personality types significantly influence learning processes and outcomes, including problem-solving skills. This research aims to describe numeracy problem-solving skills among eleventh-grade students in the science group, focusing on the DISC personality types. The study, conducted in Kediri, West Java, Indonesia, involves two representatives for each personality type. The research utilizes the DISC personality test by William Moulton Marston, a numeracy problem-solving assessment consisting of three problems, and an interview guideline. Data accuracy is ensured through source and technique triangulation, along with member-checking to validate interview results. The findings reveal that students with dominance personality types generally follow a four-step numeracy problem-solving process, occasionally skipping the re-checking step for specific questions. Influence personality types also exhibit a four-step approach to numeracy problem-solving. In contrast, students with steadiness personalities accurately describe four levels of problem-solving to achieve correct results. Compliance personality types, while adhering to a four-step process, encounter inaccuracies in certain problem solutions. In summary, students with different personality types consistently undergo a four-step numeracy problem-solving process, but variations arise in the final outcomes of problem-solving.

Abstract

Abstract

Mathematization competencies among prospective teachers, focusing on their ability to construct and communicate mathematical arguments, are crucial for effective mathematics education. This exploratory study aimed to produce qualitative-descriptive data on prospective teachers' competencies of mathematization in teacher education programs. The study employs word problems based on everyday-life problems that are solved by the mathematization process and assessed based on three indicators of mathematization competencies. The data were collected from three groups of prospective teachers in the first, third, and fifth semesters, respectively, in the mathematics education study program at a public University in Kediri, Indonesia. The findings revealed that while all prospective teachers demonstrated basic skills in identifying assumptions and organizing problems, fifth-year students exhibited better abilities in mathematical argumentation, particularly in generalizing mathematical problems. These advanced abilities included the formulation, analysis, and presentation of proficient mathematical arguments, indicating a deeper understanding and mastery of mathematization that developed progressively throughout their education. The results of this study underscore the importance of sustained and structured learning experiences in mathematics teacher education programs to foster higher-order mathematical competencies. This study enriches the mathematics education literature by illustrating the growth of argumentation skills in mathematization among prospective teachers, highlighting the need for educational curricula that emphasize these advanced skills.
