Abstract

In Semarang's elementary maths education, augmented reality (AR) and three-dimensional tech are underused in geometry instruction. These technologies promise an engaging and interactive presentation of three-dimensional objects. Presently, educators are confined to traditional tools like PowerPoint, providing a less immersive learning experience. This study addresses this gap with AR Geogebra, a tailored interactive tool for geometry instruction. Developed using the ADDIE model, the study involved fifty fifth-semester university students. Notably, material and media validation scored 90%, deeming it "extremely valid." Practicability, assessed by the experimental class and subject teacher, reached 90%, indicating high practicability. Post-test results showed an N-gain of 0.39 for the exposed group, surpassing the control group's 0.02. In conclusion, AR Geogebra proves an effective pedagogical approach for geometry instruction in elementary maths education.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the thinking activity types dominated by a mental process in producing answers characterized by automatic, unconscious, and subjective-empirical processes (system 1) in solving problems so that the default-interventionist interaction occurs. This research novelty is the formulation of the contents and thinking activity arrangement adapted to students' thinking when solving problems. The problem used in this research is a mathematical problem that triggers students to produce answers quickly with confidence that the answers are correct at a high level. Another problem is about probability because the mode of occurrence of students' learning difficulties at the secondary school level occurs when learning the concept of probability. This is qualitative research with a case study approach. The research subjects were students of Mathematics Education in semester 1. The results showed that thinking activity one could condition the occurrence of type 1 default-interventionist interaction. Thinking activity two could condition the occurrence of type 2 default-interventionist interaction. Thinking activity three could condition the occurrence of type 3 default-interventionist interaction. This research concluded that the default-interventionist interaction occurred because the content and arrangement of the thinking activity conditioned the subjects to pay attention to information gradually and change the subjects’ beliefs. Lecturers were recommended to produce, develop, and research thinking activities on topics other than probability at various levels of education. The default-interventionist interaction was essential to be conditioned when system one dominated students' thinking, causing difficulties.

Abstract

Mathematics education and problem-solving are inseparable due to the significance of solving problems with educational implications. This study aims to describe the process of developing and validating a test that measures problem-solving skills in Integral Calculus. This study is done to identify traces of the intended strategy in the answers, style, and quality of the student's responses. Data collection techniques were carried out through mathematical tests using problem-solving questions. The difficulty index, discrimination index, and reliability were calculated to analyze the data for each problem-solving instrument. Based on expert reviews, evaluations, and data analysis tests, five valid problem-solving instrument items with a discrimination index greater than 0.30 and Cronbach's alpha reliability greater than 0.60 have been developed. Therefore, it can be concluded that the developed maths test questions can enhance the problem-solving skills of Ibrahim Sultan Polytechnic students. Abstract

The objective of this study is to discern the patterns of truth-seeking behaviors among students when tackling mathematics problems involving an unknown universe of discourse. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, the research encompassed stages including instrument preparation and validation, data collection from two mathematics problems with no specified universal set, subject selection, data analysis, triangulation, and interpretation. The research group consisted of tenth-grade high school students who were considered to have ideal abilities in problem-solving. The instrument used was valid and reliable. The findings reveal that students tend to exhibit a lack of truth-seeking behavior when tackling problem-solving tasks. These behaviors include: (1) verifying the universal set, (2) articulating and defining the universal set, (3) documenting the formulas used to solve problems according to the objectives, (4) outlining the steps employed, (5) working through the questions in accordance with predetermined steps, and (6) evaluating the outcomes obtained to ensure their alignment with the established objectives. Their behavioral patterns unfold as follows: (1) comprehending questions to extract problem details and jotting down pertinent information during the problem identification phase, (2) identifying and documenting the queries posed in questions during the goal-setting stage, (3) utilizing all established information during the strategy implementation phase, and (4) formulating conclusions and conducting result verification during the review and evaluation stage. Future researchers can develop learning methods to familiarize students with truth-seeking behaviors.
