Abstract

Risk assessment is a systematic procedure employed to detect potential dangers and evaluate the possible consequences of disasters or calamities, ensuring comprehensive hazard identification in the work environment. Integrating risk assessment into management and organizational processes is crucial, especially in healthcare settings like physiotherapy, where patient safety is paramount. This comprehensive review systematically compiled and analyzed relevant studies from scholarly journals, bibliographies, and related articles to evaluate the effectiveness of risk assessment procedures in identifying and mitigating potential hazards in physiotherapy practice. The review specifically focused on the use of the STEADI tool in conjunction with electronic health records (EHR) for joint risk assessments. The risk assessment process involves three key stages: identification, calculation, and implementation of control measures. Various methodologies were explored, including models like CATCH fall administration, PISTI management, multidisciplinary collaboration, and Fall TIPS. Falls, a major global health issue, are the 13th leading cause of death worldwide, with preventive strategies shown to reduce fall-related deaths by up to 92%. Effective risk assessment is essential for ensuring patient safety in physiotherapy. By identifying and mitigating potential risks, particularly those related to falls, healthcare providers can significantly improve patient outcomes and safety in clinical practice.

Abstract

Manual manipulative practices (MMPs), such as chiropractic spinal manipulation, osteopathic treatment, and Tui Na massage, are famous for improving musculoskeletal function but carry risks ranging from minor to severe side effects. Chiropractic therapy generally has minimal adverse effects, while Tui Na is less commonly used. A literature review on patient safety in MMPs involves evaluating studies, synthesizing findings, and identifying themes. While spinal manipulation can be beneficial, it may cause side effects like muscle soreness and headache and, in rare cases, severe complications like stroke. Reporting of adverse events has improved but still does not meet guidelines. Strategies to minimize risks include informed consent, thorough patient history, and adherence to clinical guidelines. These practices can enhance patient care and public health when applied with safety considerations.

Abstract

The healthcare landscape has transformed significantly in recent decades, propelled by technological advancements and evolving treatment methodologies. This evolution has improved patient care and introduced complexities in medical malpractice. This research aimed to explore the evolving landscape of medical malpractice in light of technological advancements such as artificial intelligence (AI) and telemedicine. Specifically, the study aims to analyze the gap between traditional legal standards of medical malpractice and the practical realities healthcare providers face in a rapidly changing environment. The gap is most evident when applying static legal definitions to an ever-changing healthcare environment.  This study employs a qualitative research method using a systematic literature review (SLR) to analyze the relationship between legal frameworks and technological developments influencing medical malpractice claims over the past five years (2018-2023).  This study found a pressing need for legal reforms to accommodate emerging technologies such as telemedicine and artificial intelligence (AI), which challenge conventional definitions of liability and standards of care. The study emphasizes the importance of adapting legal frameworks to ensure patient safety while protecting healthcare providers from undue liability. This study highlights medical malpractice law's dynamic and evolving nature in response to technological advancements and changing healthcare practices. Staying informed about these evolving legal standards is essential for healthcare providers' risk management and compliance. Policymakers must prioritize the development of supportive legal frameworks that protect patient rights while providing healthcare providers with the clarity needed to navigate this complex landscape effectively.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of digital technologies has revolutionized global banking, with blockchain technology emerging as a transformative tool for financial risk management. Its decentralized, immutable, and transparent framework offers fraud prevention, operational risk mitigation, and enhanced regulatory compliance benefits. However, its role in addressing pandemic-induced uncertainties and complex risk management challenges remains insufficiently explored. This study aims to analyze blockchain's transformative role in financial risk management within global banking, focusing on its adoption during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. Method: Using a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) methodology, the research synthesizes findings from peer-reviewed articles and industry reports published between 2018 and 2024.The results reveal that blockchain reduces fraud risks through immutable records, improves operational efficiency via smart contracts, and enhances compliance with Know Your Customer (KYC) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) regulations. It also strengthens resilience by mitigating risks from central system failures and enabling real-time monitoring of financial transactions. Despite these advantages, challenges like scalability issues and fragmented global regulations limit its adoption. During the pandemic, blockchain demonstrated its crisis-resilient potential by enabling secure online transactions and real-time fraud detection. The study concludes that blockchain offers transformative benefits for financial risk management. However, its broader adoption requires strategic interventions, such as unified regulatory frameworks, scalability solutions, and sandbox environments to foster innovation. Addressing these challenges could unlock blockchain’s full potential in reshaping global banking with enhanced transparency.

Abstract

This study examines the influence of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) performance on firm value, comparing emerging and developed markets, focusing on Indonesia. While ESG’s global impact on firm value is well-documented, research on its effects in Indonesia and similar markets is limited. Developed economies benefit from robust regulatory frameworks and investor demand for ESG integration. In contrast, Indonesia shows an inconsistent ESG-firm value relationship influenced by regulatory progress, investor awareness, and socioeconomic factors. The study aims to: (1) evaluate ESG’s impact on firm value in Indonesia, (2) identify contextual factors mediating this relationship, and (3) determine which ESG dimensions—Environmental, Social, or Governance—most significantly affect valuation. A Structured Literature Review (SLR) of studies from 2020 to 2024 provides insights into ESG impacts in emerging and developed markets, emphasizing Indonesia. Findings reveal that ESG performance generally enhances firm value in Indonesia, with Governance having the most decisive influence. Governance promotes investor confidence and stability, which is highly valued in Indonesia’s market. Social factors, such as community engagement, also contribute to firm value, aligning with Indonesia's emphasis on corporate social responsibility. Environmental factors, however, show limited impact due to low domestic investor prioritization and weak regulatory enforcement. ESG adoption in Indonesia is driven mainly by foreign investors and multinational corporations adhering to global standards. To enhance ESG’s role in firm value, Indonesian regulators should mandate ESG disclosures and incentivize green finance. Firms must focus on governance and social initiatives to build investor confidence.

Abstract

Maternal mortality remains a critical issue in Indonesia, predominantly caused by the triad of haemorrhage, preeclampsia, and infection. The progression from haemorrhage to preeclampsia and ultimately infection presents a serious threat to maternal health. From a nursing perspective, early prevention strategies, including stress management, are essential in reducing the risk of preeclampsia among pregnant women. This study aims to explore the lived experiences of pregnant women in managing stress as a non-pharmacological nursing intervention to prevent preeclampsia. A qualitative descriptive design has been employed to explore stress management strategies among pregnant women in the context of preeclampsia prevention. Participants were selected through purposive sampling and recruited from two primary healthcare centres. Data were collected over two months using in-depth interviews and focus group discussions (FGDs). All interviews were audio-recorded, transcribed verbatim, and analyzed thematically using OpenCode software for systematic coding and interpretation. The thematic analysis has identified three overarching themes: (1) Sources and experiences of stress during pregnancy; (2) Emotional shifts associated with pregnancy; and (3) Coping strategies adopted to prevent preeclampsia. The third theme included three sub-themes: the use of relaxation techniques to manage stress, the application of distraction methods to redirect stress, and the integration of spiritual practices as a means of emotional regulation. Pregnant women utilize a variety of distraction, relaxation, and spiritual strategies to alleviate stress and manage emotional fluctuations during pregnancy, thereby helping to prevent an increase in blood pressure. This study suggests that preeclampsia prevention can be achieved effectively and economically through non-pharmacological nursing interventions. Future research should consider a larger and more diverse population, potentially incorporating a transcultural nursing approach, to further explore these interventions' applicability across different cultural contexts.
