Abstract

As the world population continues to grow, the demand for clean water is increasing daily, making it a crucial resource to access. However, there are ways to harness abundant resources like solar energy and seawater to produce clean water. The present studies have conducted experimental investigations to convert seawater into freshwater using solar stills, where solar energy is utilized as the primary heat source for evaporation. The temperature distribution inside the solar stills was analyzed using a flat plate made of three different materials: copper, stainless steel, and aluminum. To examine the temperature distribution and performance of the solar stills, researchers employed computational fluid dynamics simulations (Ansys R15.0). The results showed variations in temperature distribution among the three plate materials. Copper flat plates achieved the highest temperature, approximately 44.5 Celsius, followed by aluminum at 43.91 Celsius, while stainless steel exhibited the lowest temperature at around 42.01 Celsius. The average heat flux across the three materials was approximately 581 W/m2. Additionally, observations indicated that the amount of convection occurring in copper flat plates was 121.108 Watts; in aluminum, it was 118.517 Watts; and in stainless steel, it was 105.05 Watts. The radiation energy for stainless steel flat plates was 29.93 W; for copper, 16.14 W; and for aluminum, 13.49 W.

Abstract

Noni fruit is one of the fruits that is looked down upon by the general public. Many noni fruit plants are allowed to grow wild, unkempt and noni fruit is also left to fall on plantations, yards and roadsides. In fact, noni fruit has extraordinary benefits such as curing stomach acid, cholesterol, high blood pressure (hypertension), gout, ulcers, cancer tumors and increasing stamina. This potential is not wasted by the target partner (UKM Wasiah Herbal) to process noni fruit into high-quality noni coffee powder. Various problems arise in the production process caused by very limited resources and capital. The assistance from the government through the manufacture of oven machines and roasting machines is able to simplify the production process very effectively. By using oven machines and roasting machines, UKM Wasiah Herbal produces noni coffee powder that has a high selling value. Both machines are able to cut long times and high costs, especially in the drying and roasting processes that previously used solar power and traditional tools. Both machines have also been tested before being handed over to the target partner. The trial results show that the effectiveness of the noni coffee production process is very fast, efficient and produces very satisfactory production for partners.

Abstract

This study investigated the catalytic pyrolysis of polypropylene (PP) and low-density polyethylene (LDPE) using 10 wt.% red mud and 10 wt.% limestone catalysts in a batch reactor. The process was conducted at an operating temperature of 350°C with retention times of 30, 60, and 90 minutes. The effects of adding red mud and limestone catalysts on the yields of liquid, solid, and gas pyrolysis products were analyzed. The pyrolytic oil was further evaluated using droplet evaporation measurements, equipped with a K-type thermocouple and a CCD camera to monitor droplet evolution within an atmospheric chamber. The addition of catalysts enhanced the liquid product yield while reducing the solid yield. The catalytic pyrolysis successfully facilitated the isomerization of plastic polymers, breaking the carbon chains of PP with 10 wt.% red mud. Olefin content increased by up to 7.3% for both 10 wt.% red mud and 10 wt.% limestone. Furthermore, the evaporation rate constant of the catalytic pyrolysis oils improved by up to 8.3%. This study aims to provide new insights into utilizing local waste materials to enhance the quality of pyrolytic plastic products.

Abstract

Kenaf (Hibiscus cannabinus) has long been known to the Indonesian people. The use of kenaf reached its peak during the Japanese occupation. Kenaf is not only used as bedding for livestock, but is also used to make rice cantons and sugar bags. Some known products include burlap sacks, carpets, ropes, geotextiles and handicrafts. This fiber is valued for its strength and multi-purpose function in producing environmentally friendly materials. In this study, the physical properties of kenaf fiber were compared with the physical properties of spruce wood fiber, which is known to have quite high physical fiber strength. Kenaf was cooked using soda process with 14% active alkali, the heating process time to reach a temperature of 160 oC was 1 hour and maintained at a cooking temperature of 160 oC for 2 hours at a pressure of 2.5 bar. The ratio of cooking liquid to kenaf fiber is 6. The research results show that the physical strength of kenaf fiber is comparable to the physical strength of spruce wood fiber and can be used as raw material for bag paper, for this reason it needs to be cultivated.

Salah satu jurus ampuh untuk memaksimalkan pembelajaran daring adalah dengan membuat media pembelajaran. Viber merupakan salah satu aplikasi untuk membuat media pembelajaran yang interaktif untuk melaksanakan strategi pembelajaran yang menarik. Hal ini menuntut adaptasi teknologi informasi dari semua lini pendidikan untuk menyajikan media pembelajaran yang update. Perkembangan dan penggunaan teknologi komputer dalam sistem pendidikan dapat membuat reformasi untuk sistem pendidikan yang lebih baik dan modern. Sejak pandemi covid-19 hingga saat ini memaksa proses pembelajaran terus berlanjut untuk menjaga stabilitas penyampaian materi pada siswa agar tetap terjaga. Kegiatan ini dilakukan di SDN Sumber Wetan 1 Kota Probolinggo yang berada di jalan Genitu no. 45 Kota Probolinggo. Tujuannya adalah peningkatan kualitas pembelajaran melalui penggunaan media pembelajaran video scribe dan animaker yang menarik dan interaktif.

Abstract

Teknologi informasi pembelajaran mengalami perubahan seiring dengan perkembangan jaman. Hal ini berdampak kepada guru, siswa, orang tua dituntut untuk mampu beradaptasi dengan kemajuan teknologi dalam proses pembelajaran. Perkembangan dan penggunaan teknologi komputer dalam sistem pendidikan dapat membuat reformasi untuk sistem pendidikan yang lebih baik. Sejak pandemi covid-19 tahun 2019 hingga saat ini memaksa proses pembelajaran terus berlanjut untuk menjaga stabilitas penyampaian materi pada siswa. Keadaan kemampuan penguasaan teknologi informasi antara siswa, guru dan orang tua ada gap. Aneka ragam kemampuan tersebut memaksa penyamaan kemampuan, sehingga meminimasi ketidak berhasilan kemampuan dalam penyampaian dan penerimaan materi saat proses pembelajaran. Untuk itu diperlukan pendampingan, sosialisasi dan pelatihan sehingga penguasaan teknologi lebih baik. Adanya gap pemahaman dan kemampuan teknologi informasi menjadi masalah tersendiri saat pembelajaran daring di era pandemi. Kegiatan ini dilakukan di SDN Sumber wetan 1 Kota Probolinggo yang berada di jalan Genitu no. 45 Kedupok Probolinggo. Tujuannya adalah peningkatan kualitas pembelajaran, sedangkan produk dari hasil pengabdian adalah media belajar untuk mendukung proses pembelajaran siswa untuk membantu minimasi gap penguasaan teknologi informasi dan membantu pembelajaran daring terlaksana dengan baik serta penyerapan materi selama pembelajaran daring bisa maksimal
