Abstract

Background:The highest proportion of stunting is found in East Nusa Tenggara and West Nusa Tenggara. In December 2018 the average stunting case in NTB reached 37.2% (around 150,000 children). At the Pabelilo Health Center in 2021 the most cases of stunting were in Panda Village, there was an increase of 4.8%, from 23 toddlers (9.8%) to 44 toddlers (14.6%) in 2022Objective:Analyzing effect of hemoglobin levels and upper arm circumference of pregnant on incidence of stunting in toddlersMethods:The research method uses analytic with a cross-sectional approach. Sample of 124 toddlers, simple random sampling technique, Palibelo Bima Public Health Center from February to March 2023. Ethical certificate 1573/KEPK/STIKES-NHM/EC/II/2023. Statistical test using multiple linear regression α 0.05Results: Hemoglobin levels of pregnant in toddlers who experience stunting are almost halved, 9.5-10.5 grams/dl, namely 17 toddlers (38.6%). The upper arm circumference in toddlers who experience stunting is almost entirely 19.5-22.5 cm in 35 toddlers (79.6%). Statistical tests show ρ<α (0.00<0.05), which means that hemoglobin levels and upper arm circumference simultaneously have a significant effect on stunting in toddlersConclusion: Hemoglobin levels and upper arm circumference of pregnant have an effect on the incidence of stunting in toddlers, but partially the hemoglobin level of pregnant has no effect on the incidence of stunting in toddlers while the circumference of the upper arms has an effect on the incidence of stunting in toddlers

Abstract

Malnutrition remains a persistent public health issue in Indonesia, with the government yet to fully address the problem. In 2021, the prevalence of stunting in Indonesia decreased from 24.4% to 21.6% in 2022, with a national target of reducing it to 14% by 2024. In Trageh Public Health Center, the prevalence of stunting was recorded at 6.52% in 2023, while cases of wasting and underweight were 3.13% and 3.16%, respectively. This study aims to analyze the correlation between gender and nutritional status in toddlers with stunting. The research employed a correlational analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. The study population consisted of all toddlers (n = 243), with a sample size of 151 determined through simple random sampling. Univariate data analysis utilized frequency distribution tables, while bivariate analysis was conducted using Linear Regression with a significance level of α = 0.05. The findings revealed that nearly half of the respondents (n = 65; 43.05%) were female and classified as normal (non-stunted). Additionally, the majority of toddlers had good nutritional status and were not stunted (n = 93; 61.59%). Statistical analysis using Spearman's correlation test yielded ρ = 0.651, indicating no significant relationship between gender and stunting, whereas the correlation between nutritional status and stunting was statistically significant (ρ = 0.000).

Abstract

Many toddlers in Indonesia still suffered from chronic malnutrition. The condition was still not in line with sustainable development goals (SDGs)'s target of eliminating all forms of malnutrition by 2030. This study aimed to analyse the influence of maternal anemia, low birth weight (LBW), and birth spacing on incidence of stunting. The study employed an analytical approach with a cross-sectional design. The research instrument was a checklist sheet with secondary data sources from monitoring the local area of maternal and child health (PWS KIA) and registers. A total of 93 toddlers were selected for this study using simple random sampling. The statistical tests used were chi-square tests. The results showed that almost all of toddlers did not have a history of anemia (79.57%). Similarly, nearly all toddlers did not have a history of low birth weight (LBW) (94.62%). Almost half of toddlers had an interpregnancy interval of two years (49.46%). Most toddlers were not affected by stunting (67.74%). The data analysis showed that a history of anemia did not affect on stunting (ρ = 0.632 and OR= 1.29). However, history of LBW did influence stunting (ρ = 0.001 and OR = 119.23). The interval between pregnancies also affected on stunting (ρ = 0.000 and OR = 25.75). Through the provision of good nutrition and proper parenting, the risk of stunting in toddlers can be reduced. History of anemia had no effect, while history of LBW and interpregnancy interval had an effect on the incidence of stunting. The next pregnancy needs to be planned by setting a minimum spacing of 2 years to 5 years.

Abstract

In December 2018, the number of stunting cases in NTB was approximately 37.2% (around 150.000 children under five years). of 10 districts/cities in NTB, most cases of stunting were found in Sumbawa Regency, reaching 41.8%. The aim of this study was to analyze the relationship between history of chronic energy deficiency (CED) and anemia in pregnant women with stunting incidence. This research used analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample size was 124 mothers who had child under five years at Palibelo Health Center, selected by using simple random sampling technique. The data collection used maternal child health (MCH) handbooks and observational sheets. The data was tested statistically by using chi-square test. The result showed that there was a correlation between a history of anemia and incidence of stunting (p value 0.000), yet there was no relationship between history of anemia and incidence of stunting (p value 0.605). The researchers suggested parents to be able to care for and provide various foods to their child to help in dealing with stunting incidents.
