Abstract

Lisnawaty Paje. 2024 "The Influence of the Smart Indonesia Program Cash Transfers and the Family Hope Program Cash Transfers in Overcoming Poverty in Gorontalo Province". Development Economics Study Program, Department of Economics, Faculty of Economics and Business, Gorontalo State University, With Supervisor I, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Amir Arham, M.E and Supervisor II Mrs. Fitri Hadi Yulia Akib, S.E, M.E. This research aims to determine the effect of cash transfers from the Smart Indonesia Program and the Family Hope Program on Poverty in Gorontalo Province. The data used in this research is secondary data obtained from the Central Statistics Agency and the Regional Government of Gorontalo Province for the 2018-2022 period. This research uses Panel Data Analysis using the Fixed Effect Model (FEM). The results of this research show (1) the Smart Indonesia Program Cash Transfer has a positive but not significant impact on poverty in Gorontalo Province. This is caused by inappropriate allocation and use of funds, limited beneficiary quotas so that not all underprivileged students receive assistance and there are still many individuals who have not been reached. (2) The Family Hope Program Cash Transfer has a negative but significant impact on poverty in Gorontalo Province. This is because the Family Hope Program has provided assistance to poor people to meet their basic needs, thus helping to reduce the burden of expenses they bear. As a result, many PKH participants can use their income for other purposes. In addition, the Family Hope Program has helped increase the income of poor people by providing financial assistance.

Abstract

The phenomenon of poverty often occurs in every country, especially in developing countries. The level of poverty in a country depends on two main factors, namely the average level of national income and the width of the income distribution gap. Poverty cannot only be measured through income national per capita because per capita income calculates the average income of people in a country. The high level of per capita national income in a country, if the distribution of income is unequal then the level of poverty in that country cannot be avoided, and vice versa, no matter how equal the distribution of income in a country is, if the average level of national income is low, then poverty will also become more widespread. This research aims to determine the effect of minimum wages, farmer exchange rates, and inflation in the primary sector, secondary sector and tertiary sector on poverty on the island of Java. This research uses quantitative research methods using secondary data sourced from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), using panel data analysis techniques. In this research, it was found that economic factors such as the Provincial Minimum Wage (UMP), Farmer Exchange Rate (NTP), and the inflation rate had a significant influence on the poverty level on the island of Java in the 2017-2022 period.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of income diversification on poverty vulnerability in rice farming households in Kabila District, Bone Bolango Regency, Gorontalo Province. Income diversification is viewed as a crucial strategy to improve the economic resilience of farming households, which are heavily dependent on the agricultural sector. The research uses a quantitative approach, analyzing data from 74 respondents selected through sampling techniques. Data was collected using a questionnaire that covered various income sources, income inequality, and the level of vulnerability to poverty. The results show that the income structure of households is dominated by income from rice farming (45%), while small businesses (25%) and formal and informal employment (15%) also contribute significantly. The Gini coefficient analysis of income inequality indicates a moderate level of inequality with a value of 0.42, with the non-agricultural sector showing higher inequality (0.45) compared to agriculture (0.38). Income diversification has a significant negative relationship with poverty vulnerability, with a correlation coefficient of −0.60. The regression model indicates that 42% of the variation in poverty vulnerability is explained by income diversification, suggesting that households with more diverse income sources are less vulnerable to poverty. The study concludes that income diversification is an effective strategy in reducing the economic vulnerability of rice farming households. The findings underline the need for policies that support farmers' access to economic opportunities outside agriculture, such as skill training and access to business capital. These results provide a basis for local governments and stakeholders to formulate effective policies aimed at reducing poverty in rural areas.

Abstract

The monetary child poverty gap in Indonesia shows significant disparities between provinces, especially in eastern Indonesia. This phenomenon hinders the achievement of SDGs and has implications for the quality of long-term human development. This study aims to analyze the factors that influence the level of monetary child poverty in Indonesia using panel data from 34 provinces for the period 2019-2022. The analysis method uses panel data regression with the Fixed Effect Model (FEM) approach, based on secondary data from BPS, by analyzing eleven covariates to identify significant determinants of monetary child poverty. The estimation results show five variables that have a significant effect: birth certificate ownership, internet use for school, Human Development Index, regional economic growth, and labor force participation. Meanwhile, the variables of child labor, Gini ratio, out-of-school rate for 7-12 year olds, preschool level, and PIP recipients at elementary and junior high school levels do not show a significant effect. These findings imply the need for an integrated reformulation of child poverty alleviation policies, focusing on strengthening the population administration system, digital transformation of education, improving the quality of human development, and optimizing inclusive economic growth.
