Abstract

Body shaming is an act of criticizing a person's physical appearance that can affect self-confidence, particularly among adolescents who are in the stage of developing their self-identity. However, not all adolescents who experience body shaming suffer a decline in self-confidence. This study aims to determine the relationship between body shaming and self-confidence among adolescents. It employs a quantitative research method with a correlational design. A sample of 15 tenth-grade students from the Karya Pembangunan Deli Tua Educational Foundation (2026) was selected using purposive sampling. The instruments used were questionnaires measuring body shaming and self-confidence, both of which had undergone validity testing. The results showed a significance value (p) of 0.001 (p < 0.05) and a correlation coefficient (r) of 0.259. Based on the correlation coefficient, it can be concluded that higher levels of body shaming are associated with lower levels of self-confidence among students at the Karya Pembangunan Deli Tua High School; conversely, lower levels of body shaming are associated with higher levels of self-confidence. This interpretation is based on the correlation coefficient guidelines provided by Sugiyono (2022). These findings indicate that adolescent self-confidence is influenced not only by negative experiences but also by other factors, such as self-acceptance and social support.

Abstract

Interpersonal conflict is an ongoing conflict arising from incompatible differences in perspective between individuals. This study aims to determine the effect of group counseling services utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques on the interpersonal conflict experienced by students in the Guidance and Counseling Study Program at UMN Al-Washliyah Medan. Group counseling based on the CBT approach plays a crucial role by emphasizing the interrelationship between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and by helping individuals identify and alter negative or irrational thought patterns that drive maladaptive behaviors. The study employs a quantitative approach using a pre-experimental "one-group pretest-posttest" design, with data analysis facilitated by SPSS version 20 for Windows. The study population consisted of 19 students, from which a sample of 10 students exhibiting high levels of social interaction was selected using purposive sampling. Hypothesis testing and data analysis revealed a mean pretest score of 91.70 and a mean posttest score of 63.30, indicating a reduction in interpersonal conflict of 28.400. Thus, it can be concluded that this intervention is effective in helping students reduce the interpersonal conflict they experience. These findings are expected to serve as a reference for guidance and counseling educators in designing appropriate counseling services to mitigate student interpersonal conflict on campus.

Abstract

Public speaking anxiety is characterized by feelings of fear, nervousness, and distress when addressing an audience. This study aims to determine the effect of group counseling services utilizing role-playing techniques on classroom speaking anxiety among Grade X students at SMA Yayasan Perguruan Karya Pembangunan Deli Tua. Group counseling employing a role-playing approach plays a crucial role in reducing students' speaking anxiety. Through the application of this technique, students are expected to overcome various obstacles—such as difficulties in building relationships, empathizing with others, and a lack of self-confidence during interactions. This study employs a quantitative approach using an experimental method (specifically, a pre-experimental one-group pre-test/post-test design) and utilizes SPSS version 23 for Windows for data analysis. The study population consisted of 25 students, with a sample of 10 students exhibiting high levels of speaking anxiety selected via purposive sampling. Hypothesis testing and data analysis revealed a mean pre-test score of 100.60 and a mean post-test score of 90.50, indicating a reduction in speaking anxiety of 10.10. Thus, it can be concluded that this intervention is effective in helping students reduce their speaking anxiety. These findings are expected to serve as a reference for school counselors in designing appropriate group counseling services to alleviate students' speaking anxiety.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between emotional regulation and academic stress among students in the Guidance and Counseling study program at Universitas Muslim Nusantara Al Washliyah Medan. The study is grounded in the importance of emotional regulation skills in helping students cope with the various academic demands that can trigger academic stress. Students with effective emotional regulation tend to be better at controlling their emotions, managing pressure, and facing academic challenges adaptively, thereby potentially experiencing lower levels of academic stress. This study employs a quantitative approach using a correlational method. A sample of 33 students was selected using purposive sampling. The instruments used were questionnaires measuring emotional regulation and academic stress, designed based on a Likert scale. The results indicate that the data are normally distributed and the relationship between the two variables is linear. The Pearson Product-Moment correlation test yielded a correlation coefficient (r) of -0.601 with a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). These results demonstrate a significant negative relationship between emotional regulation and academic stress among the students. The coefficient of determination of 36.1% indicates that emotional regulation contributes to academic stress, while the remaining 63.9% is influenced by factors not examined in this study. The findings suggest that the better a student's ability to manage their emotions, the lower the level of academic stress they experience. Therefore, emotional regulation skills should be continuously developed to enable students to better handle academic demands and minimize the occurrence of academic stress
