Abstract

The Community Service Program (Kuliah Kerja Nyata/KKN) was conducted as a form of student community service through the application of knowledge and skills to help address problems identified within the community. This KKN activity aimed to improve the reading abilities of Grade I–VI students at SDN 1 Telangkah, Telangkah Village, Katingan Hilir District, Katingan Regency, as well as to increase students’ interest and motivation in reading activities. The method used was Participatory Action Research (PAR), involving university students, school staff, students, parents, and the community in the processes of problem identification, planning, implementation, and program evaluation. Based on observations and interviews, 19 students were identified as experiencing reading difficulties, including difficulties in recognizing letters, spelling, reading fluently, and understanding reading content. To address these problems, the students implemented the CERIA Tutoring Program through a pre-test, gradual reading instruction, word and sentence reading exercises, short-text reading, and a post-test. The results showed that 8 out of 11 participants (72.7%) experienced improved scores, with the average score increasing from 69.73 to 74.36.
