Abstract

Almost everyone has experienced traumatic events that lead to trauma. Trauma is a form of psychological experience that has a serious impact on mental health. The impact of trauma itself can vary, such as anxiety, depression, dissociation, and PTSD. In the novel All Her Little Secrets, Ellice, the main character, is described as suffering from PTSD due to childhood trauma. This study aims to determine how the character Ellice is described as suffering from PTSD and what trauma she has experienced. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method referring to two types of data, namely primary data and secondary data. Primary data were taken from the All Her Little Secrets novel in the form of narrative, dialogue and monologue. Meanwhile secondary data were taken from journals, books and articles related to the research topic. Several steps were taken to obtain data, namely reading the novel repeatedly and carefully, identifying data, classifying data, and reducing power. The results of this study concluded that Ellice as a PTSD sufferer was described through the symptoms she experienced. Ellice's PTSD symptoms include re-experiencing, avoidance, negative alterations in cognition and mood, and hyperarousal. Meanwhile, the forms of childhood trauma that Ellice experienced included bullying, child maltreatment, and exposure to domestic and community violence

Abstract

Program pengabdian masyarakat ini berfokus pada peningkatan kompetensi pengetahuan lintas budaya dan Bahasa Inggris untuk pariwisata untuk Pokdarwis PERWIRA. Pengabdian masyarakat ini dilaksanakan dalam tiga tahapan yaitu survey awal obyek, pemberian pelatihan, dan monev. Pada tahap survey awal, Tim Pengabdi melakukan diskusi dengan anggota pokdarwis guna mencari masalah atau tantangan yang dihadapi oleh pokdarwis tersebut. Setelah melakukan diskusi tersebut, Tim Pengabdi menyusun rencana pelatihan untuk menyelesaikan masalah pokdarwis tersebut. Pada tahap pelaksanaan, pelatihan dibagi menjadi 4 (empat) kegiatan yang meliputi sharing antar budaya, pelatihan cross cultural understanding, pelatihan cross cultural communication, dan pelatihan English for Tourism. Pelatihan dilaksanakan dengan melibatkan tim pengabdian masyarakat dan 24 peserta pelatihan. Tahap terakhir yaitu monitoring and evaluation (monev) yang bertujuan melihat hasil kinerja pelatihan yang dilaksanakan. Hasil pengabdian menunjukan bahwa warga antusias mengikuti sesi yang dilaksanakan tersebut dan warga menyatakan kegiatan tersebut bermanfaat dalam hal menambah pengetahuan lintas budaya mereka. Peserta pelatihan juga menyatakan bahwa mereka menjadi lebih percaya diri dalam menggunakan Bahasa Inggris. Namun, perlu adanya pelatihan lebih lanjut mengenai English for tourism sehingga semua anggota pokdarwis lebih mampu dan percaya diri dalam menggunakan Bahasa Inggris dalam berbagai situasi yang berkaitan dengan pariwisata. This community service program focused on improving cross cultural understanding and English for tourism for the members of the Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis) named PERWIRA. This community service program was conducted in three stages. The first stage was preliminary survey conducted on the site in order to find any challenges or problems faced by Pokdarwis PERWIRA. After discussing with the members of Pokdarwis PERWIRA, the team of this community service program discussed and planed the training activities to cope with the challenges faced by Pokdarwis PERWIRA. The second stage was the implementation of the trainings. There were four trainings including the cross-cultural sharing, the cross-cultural understanding training, the cross-cultural communication training, and the English tourism training. These trainings involved the team of the community service program and twenty-four (24) participants. The last stage was monitoring and evaluation (monev)to look for the results of the trainings. Based on the results, it was indicated that the participants were enthusiastic in joining the trainings; they also stated that the trainings were beneficial for them in terms of increasing their confidence in using English. However, it was needed to conduct the continuous trainings of English for tourism to make the Pokdarwis members more confident and able to use English in various contexts related to tourism.

Abstract

Diaspora still becomes one of the big issues in sociological aspect. Acculturation has been relevant to the topic of diaspora. The issue raised in this study is acculturation process which is experienced by people who do migration by leaving their homeland to a new country caused by any condition happens in their homeland. This study attempts to analyze the acculturation process experienced by old Mrs. Pan in Pearl S Buck’s short story “The Good Deed”. This study applied descriptive qualitative method and several steps used in organizing the data; reading the short story, identifying the data, classifying the data, reducing the data, analyzing the data and finally the data analysis presented in descriptive form. In conducting this study, primary data and secondary data were used. The primary data were taken from The Good Deed short story by Pearl S. Buck published in 1953 and the secondary data were taken from journals, e-journals, books, e-books. In conclusion, this study found that acculturation process reflected in old Mrs. Pan as the main character. She experienced the acculturation process as she moved to America because of the conflict which happened in China. She faced the acculturation process in her movement to the new country such as acculturative stress and separation as one of acculturation’s strategy she encountered.

Abstract

Pendidikan karakter seyogyanya diberikan kepada siswa sejak dini karena pendidikan karakter mempengaruhi karakter masyarakat di masa depan. Permasalahan yang terjadi adalah tidak semua sekolah mampu memberikan penanaman karakter sejak dini yang dikarenakan minimnya sarana dan prasarana yang dimiliki. PAUD Tunas Bangsa 2 merupakan salah satu PAUD swasta yang terletak di daerah Sendangguwo Semarang. Mayoritas siswa PAUD Tunas Bangsa berasal dari masyarakat sekitar kelurahan dengan tingkat ekonomi menegah ke bawah. Dengan pemasukan dana yang sangat terbatas, banyak sekali sarana dan prasarana sekolah PAUD ini yang perlu dibenahi, salah satunya dari sisi bahan bacaan untuk proses pembelajarannya. Kurangnya bahan bacaan membuat proses pembelajaran tidak berjalan dengan maksimal. Berdasarkan analisis kebutuhan mitra di atas, maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa PAUD Tunas Bangsa 2 tersebut memerlukan peningkatan pada beberapa aspek, diantaranya adalah bantuan sarana dan prasarana dalam proses belajar mengajar. Dengan demikian, pengabdian masyarakat ini berfokus pada pemberian bantuan sarana pembelajaran yang dalam hal ini berupa buku-buku cerita anak dan beberapa alat peraga serta peningkatan kompetensi guru yang dalam hal ini melalui pendampingan kegiatan bercerita. Materi diisi dengan sosialisasi terkait manfaat kegiatan bercerita, pemaparan teknik bercerita, dan pendampingan penyiapan kegiatan bercerita. Hasil pengabdian menunjukkan bahwa baik guru maupun kepala sekolah antusias mengikuti serta berlatih mengaplikasikan teknik bercerita, sedangkan siswa PAUD antusias mendengarkan cerita yang disampaikan oleh guru dan terlihat aktif menjawab pertanyaan diberikan oleh guru terkait dengan tema pendidikan karakter yang dipilih.

Abstract

Abstract: Female Indonesian migrant domestic workers (DMWs) often get a negative predicate both in Indonesia and in destination countries. For example, DMWs in Singapore are treated unequally by Singaporean society, in Indonesia, as well, their work is seen as a lowly job. They can be categorized as a marginal group. Marginals are marginalized people whose rights are ruled out by people that have power. Hence, they find it difficult to adapt to their environment and they are always suppressed. The circumstances lead to the feeling of alienation for DMWs. The alienation they have experienced is often ignored as a reality of the life of migrant workers. This study takes the object of poetry by Female Indonesian DMWs in Singapore. It explores how marginalization and alienation are expressed in literary work by female domestic migrant workers. This study, also analyzes how the expression of literary work can be functioned as a medium to voice alienation and to overcome its problem. This research used textual analysis, including the application of semiotics and narratology to see the marginalization and alienation faced by the migrant workers which are represented through a literary work. As complementary data, virtual interviews with the author of poetry was conducted.

Abstract

Stunting masih menjadi permasalahan kesehatan utama di Indonesia, dengan prevalensi sebesar 24,4% pada tahun 2021 berdasarkan Survei Status Gizi Indonesia (SSGI). Meskipun angka ini menurun menjadi 21,6% pada tahun 2022, pemerintah masih berupaya mencapai target penurunan hingga 14% pada tahun 2024. Posyandu dan puskesmas memiliki peran sentral dalam pencegahan stunting melalui deteksi dini dan edukasi gizi. Namun, pemahaman ibu balita terkait stunting masih rendah, sementara kader kesehatan memerlukan peningkatan kapasitas dalam memberikan layanan optimal. Oleh karena itu, program ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kesadaran ibu balita mengenai pentingnya gizi sejak kehamilan serta mengoptimalkan peran kader Posyandu melalui integrasi layanan primer. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan di RT 03 RW 02 Kelurahan Kaligawe, Gayamsari, Kota Semarang. Program dilakukan melalui penyuluhan kepada ibu balita terkait pencegahan stunting dan pelatihan bagi kader Posyandu untuk meningkatkan keterampilan dalam pelayanan kesehatan dasar. Kegiatan ini bekerja sama dengan Puskesmas Gayamsari dan melibatkan partisipasi aktif masyarakat setempat. Hasil program menunjukkan peningkatan pemahaman ibu balita mengenai pencegahan stunting, terutama dalam pemenuhan gizi sejak kehamilan dan praktik pemberian makanan sehat bagi balita. Selain itu, kader Posyandu mengalami peningkatan keterampilan dalam pemantauan tumbuh kembang anak, pencatatan data kesehatan, serta koordinasi dengan Puskesmas. Keberhasilan program ini ditunjang oleh metode interaktif dalam penyuluhan serta keterlibatan aktif tenaga kesehatan. Program ini berhasil meningkatkan kesadaran ibu balita tentang pentingnya gizi dalam pencegahan stunting serta mengoptimalkan peran kader Posyandu dalam layanan kesehatan primer.

Abstract

Traumatic events that pose a threat to one's life can cause PTSD. Positive changes that a person experiences after going through trauma are referred as PTG. Violet Markey, as the main character in All the Bright Places Novel, experienced post-traumatic stress disorder. This study aims to analyze the domains of post-traumatic growth that were achieved after successfully going through PTSD symptoms. This study applies post-traumatic stress disorder theory by Gleen R. Schiraldi and Richard Tedeschi and Lawrence Calhoun’s post-traumatic growth theory. This study analyzed the data which included dialogue, sentences, and phrases using qualitative research method. The process of collecting data involves multiple steps, such as reading the novel, identifying, classifying, and reducing the data. The findings of this study portrayed that the symptoms of PTSD in Violet Markey are re-experiencing, arousal, and avoidance. Furthermore, Violet experienced personal strength, relating to other, new possibilities, appreciation of life, and spiritual change as a result of post-traumatic growth. It can be concluded that a person can achieve post-traumatic growth after dealing with the symptoms of PTSD.

Abstract

Women’s struggles against patriarchy remain a crucial subject in feminist and postcolonial scholarship, yet limited attention has been given to how cinema contributes to theorizing subaltern subjectivity. This study addresses the gap by analyzing North Country (2005) through feminist criticism and postcolonial theory, particularly Spivak’s concept of the subaltern. The purpose is to examine how women’s silenced voices in patriarchal structures are represented and how subaltern subjectivity transforms into political agency. Using qualitative textual and film analysis, the study integrates Spivak’s subalternity with Butler’s performativity, Foucault’s disciplinary power, Fraser’s redistribution and recognition, and Mohanty’s transnational feminism. Findings show that the mine functions as a patriarchal microcosm, but resistance and solidarity enable women to reclaim voice and agency, redefining the feminist maxim “the personal is political” and extending its resonance transnationally. The study concludes that North Country (2005) is a cultural artifact dramatizing the journey “from subaltern to subject,” underscoring cinema’s role as a theoretical production.
