Abstract

This paper elucidates the relationship among pre-service teachers’ beliefs about language learning, pedagogical beliefs, and beliefs about ICT Integration through survey methodology. This study employed a quantitative approach, particularly a correlational relationship to investigate the relationships among beliefs about language learning, pedagogical beliefs, and beliefs about ICT integration by utilizing structural equation modeling (SEM). SEM was applied to model the relationships in a set of three domains: beliefs about language learning, pedagogical beliefs, and beliefs about ICT integration. A questionnaire was administered to 103 pre-service EFL teachers who have accomplished their teaching practice in secondary schools. The results of the three types of beliefs obtained from the questionnaire were then analyzed through Structural Equation Model (SEM). It was revealed that there was a significant positive relationship between beliefs about language learning and pedagogical beliefs, and that between the former and beliefs about ICT integration, while a positive correlation between pedagogical beliefs and beliefs about ICT integration was not found. Insightful implications to EFL teaching and learning were discussed.

Abstract

The COVID-19 outbreak has forced our education process into online learning. Unfortunately, the suddenness has left both teachers and students unprepared, causing students to experience some degree of anxiety, particularly in foreign language speaking skills. This study aims to investigate students’ perception of voice notes to reduce students’ speaking anxiety. This study employed a quantitative approach with a survey study and used a questionnaire as the instrument. The participants of this study were tenth-grade students of SMAN 1 Malang who took extra English class as their cross-interest subject in high school. This study showed positive responses regarding using voice notes in a speaking activity conducted in ELT class as students thought it could reduce their speaking anxiety. Voice note then provides a new learning media that is less stressful and pressuring on ELT in an online setting.

Abstract

English children’s songs have been commonly used to teach English to young learners. Despite its popularity, few studies focus on its limitation. This study aims to explore pre-service and in-service teachers’ perceptions on the use of English Children’s songs to teach English to young learners. This study employed a qualitative descriptive method by involving two pre-service teachers, two in-service teachers, and four students. Data were collected through pre-service and in-service teachers’ interviews, students’ interviews, and classroom observation. The findings showed that English children’s songs offer numerous benefits for young learners in learning English. However, there were technical limitations such as the lack of internet connection and school facilities and non-technical limitations such as picking the right song for the students and providing various songs to prevent students’ boredom that faced by the pre-service and in-service teachers in using English children’s songs in the classroom. To overcome those limitations, pre-service and in-service teachers brought their laptops and speakers to play songs to students and downloaded songs to be played first. They were also very selective in choosing which songs the students could memorize easily and provided various songs.

Abstract

The community service activity at SDI As Salam and SMPIT As Salam aimed to enhance energy independence through the integration of solar panels in hydroponic and aquaponic systems. Solar panels were utilized as an alternative energy source to reduce dependency on PLN electricity, which posed major challenges for water pump operations in hydroponic and aquaponic farming systems. The Participatory Rural Appraisal approach was implemented through technical training, solar panel installation workshops, and farming assistance. The results demonstrated that using solar panels reduced electricity costs, supported students' learning about renewable energy, and improved the sustainability of urban farming in schools. The integration of solar panels with hydroponic and aquaponic systems provided a practical and eco-friendly solution to energy challenges for farming on limited land.

Abstract

The technical advice initiative for the implementation of solar panels in hydroponic and aquaponic culture at SDI As-Salam and SMPIT As-Salam in Malang City seeks to enhance the efficiency and sustainability of the school's hydroponic and aquaponic systems. The primary issues encountered are elevated operational expenses related to power and reliance on PLN. The team executed a solution by installing solar panels with a cumulative capacity of 800 watts peak, including four 200-watt panels and an energy storage battery with a 400-watt capacity. The training results indicated that the solar panels could power the hydroponic gadget continuously for 24 hours. The training included the principal and instructors, who then instructed pupils in hydroponic and aquaponic farming techniques. Success indicators encompass the enhancement of skills and knowledge among educators and pupils pertaining to renewable energy technologies and agricultural practices, the effective installation and functioning of solar panels, and the diminishment of reliance on PLN electricity. This activity offers real advantages through reduced operational expenses while also enhancing students' understanding of environmentally focused technologies. Additional potential prospects encompass the commercialization of hydroponic vegetable production and project-based teaching aimed at enhancing environmental consciousness.

Abstract

The use of technology in learning is not only a necessity but also a requirement for creating more creative, critical, innovative, and communicative learning. The integration of AI in learning changes the paradigm of teachers from being instructors to facilitators, collaborators, mentors, coaches, guides, and learning companions who can train students to become independent and responsible learners. However, this is hindered by the imbalance in teachers' knowledge regarding the use of technology in developing teaching materials. This Community Service Activity aims to provide guidance on the use of technology in developing English language teaching materials for English teachers at vocational high schools in Banyuwangi Regency, East Java. Teachers will participate in a three-month program for the development of English teaching materials, which includes the stages of needs analysis, training, guidance, and evaluation of activities.
