Abstract

ABSTRACTBatik Tiga Zaman Community serves as a community-service partner acting as an education and conservation center for batik in the Balikpapan area, yet its promotion and branding management remains conventional with a relatively limited reach due to low digital media management skills. This community service activity aims to improve members' capacity in designing batik education promotional media using the Canva application. The method used was participatory training with a hands-on approach, covering information selection, visual composition, typography and graphic element selection, and design adjustment to the community's identity, followed by mentoring in independently producing promotional content. Evaluation was conducted through pre-test and post-test questionnaires administered to four training participants. Results showed that the ability to create engaging batik education promotional content increased from an average of 2.25 to 4.00 (an increase of 77.8%), and the ability to determine brochure design characteristics for children and adults increased from an average of 3.75 to 4.75 (an increase of 26.7%), with the overall average across nine empowerment indicators rising from 3.42 to 4.44 (an increase of 30.1%). The training proved effective in enhancing technical skills, branding understanding, and participants' confidence in managing digital promotion independently and sustainably. Keywords: Canva; Digital Design; Batik Education Promotion; Community Branding; Digital Training.

Abstract

Hazard reporting is an essential part of occupational safety management because it helps in identifying and communicating conditions and actions that have the potential to give rise to risk. The digital hazard reporting systems used in industrial settings can be adapted as instructional media to give students experience of the occupational safety reporting process. This study aims to produce a web-based occupational safety hazard reporting prototype as a learning aid and to examine its functionality, the change in students’ knowledge, and students’ perceptions of its use. The study employed the Research and Development (R&D) method with the ADDIE model. Functional testing was conducted using black-box testing, while use of the prototype was evaluated by comparing pre-test and post-test results and administering a student perception questionnaire. Black-box testing confirmed 14 of the 15 scenarios (93.33%) as designed, the mean knowledge score rose from 80.96 to 99.65 (N-Gain 0.98, high category), and student perceptions averaged 4.86 (strongly agree). These results indicate that the Safety Report prototype can serve as a learning aid that provides simulated experience of hazard reporting in occupational safety instruction. The contribution of this study is a prototype for reporting occupational safety and health hazards, ranging from the identification of unsafe conditions and unsafe actions to the monitoring of follow-up actions on such reports, within a learning context. This pilot study involved a single group of 57 students without a comparison group; therefore, these findings should be viewed as an initial indication of the prototype’s usability, rather than as evidence of its effectiveness.
