Abstract

Rheumatic heart disease (RHD) is a public health problem, especially among low-income populations in developing countries. This study aims to examine the relationship between demographic and socioeconomic factors and the incidence of RHD at Dr. Soetomo General Hospital, Surabaya. This is an analytic study using a cross-sectional approach, with 284 respondents in 2024. Primary data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using SPSS. The Chi-Square test revealed a significant relationship between age and RHD (p = 0.000 < 0.005), particularly among individuals aged 40-59 years. Other variables, such as gender, residential area, population density, and economic status, did not show a significant association. These findings underscore the need for targeted public health interventions specifically designed for specific age groups. Further research is recommended, utilizing larger sample sizes and a more detailed classification of RHD severity levels, to enhance prevention and disease management strategies.

Abstract

Highlights: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease mainly occurs in male patients, elderly patients, and ex-smokers. Classification of COPD patient therapy must be chosen individually for each patient, which sometimes does not comply with existing guidelines.   Abstract Introduction: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a disease-causing breathing issue characterized by persistent and progressive airflow obstruction in response to noxious particles or gases and influenced by host factors. This study aimed to describe the profile trends, including age, sex, body mass index (BMI), complaints, physical examination findings, comorbidities, smoking history, exacerbations, COPD assessment test (CAT) score, modified Medical Research Council (mMRC) dyspnea scale, the Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD)-ABE grouping, and pharmacological therapy. Methods: Data collection included variables such as age, sex, BMI, complaints, physical examination, comorbidities, smoking history, exacerbations, CAT score, mMRC dyspnea scale, GOLD-ABE grouping, and pharmacological therapy. Results: A total of 73 patients were included. The sample was dominated by male patients (84.93%), aged 61-70 years old (38.35%), had normal BMI (63.01%), most complained of persistent cough (57.53%), had normal physical examination (97.26%), had no comorbidities (82.19%), ex-smokers (63.01%), and had no exacerbations (39.72%). Most were classified as Group B (50.68%) in the GOLD-ABE Group, medium (54.79%) on the CAT Score, and grade 1 (42.47%) on the mMRC dyspnea scale. Most patients were treated with long-acting β2-agonist (LABA)+inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) (79.45%) and mucolytics (27.40%). Conclusion: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease predominantly affected elderly male patients, especially aged 61-70 years old, with a history of smoking. Most had a normal BMI, reported persistent cough, and had no comorbidities. Patients were primarily classified under GOLD-ABE Group B with moderate symptoms, while severe exacerbations were rare. Treatment mainly involved LABA+ICS combinations, though adherence to updated guidelines varied. Further research is needed to refine treatment strategies and to explore additional variables to improve management.

Abstract

Tetanus Toxoid (TT) immunization in the bride-to-be is an important effort to prevent tetanus in mothers and babies. However, TT immunization coverage at WUS in Gresik Regency in 2023 is only 83.2%, still below the target of 90%. This condition is influenced by various factors. This study was conducted with the aim of analyzing factors related to the compliance of the bride-to-be in carrying out TT immunization in the working area of the Driyorejo Gresik Health Center. The method used was observational with a cross sectional design. The number of respondents was 64 brides-to-be who met the inclusion criteria, namely aged 15-49 years and visited the Driyorejo Gresik Health Center in the period of June-August 2025. Data analysis uses chi-square test and fisher exact test if they do not meet the requirements of chi square test. The results of the bivariate analysis of the knowledge level p=0.348, the support of the prospective husband p=0.021, work p=0.322, the role of health workers p=0.014, and the attitude of p=0.081 towards the compliance of the bride-to-be in carrying out the completeness of TT immunization. Based on these results, there is a significant relationship between the support factor of the prospective husband and the role of health workers on the compliance of the bride-to-be in carrying out TT immunization. There was no significant relationship between knowledge, work, and attitude factors towards the bride-to-be's compliance in carrying out TT immunization at the Driyorejo Gresik Health Center.
