Abstract

nowadays, sustainability has become an important issue in any development project, including area development. Thishappen because the area development requires space, in this case land. As people developing land, it damages theenvironment. It means there will be less balance between built environment and natural environment. This calls forconcern in urban sustainability. One of the ways to restore the balance is to reduce as much land as possible to be builtby maximizing the space. This paper will explore the multiple space use in terms of mixed-use development in differentlevel and also assess mixed land use implementation, which include the concept of diversity in urban sustainability

Abstract

Natural ventilation is closely related to the indoor air quality and will affect the occupant activities. The unhealthy air conditioning will create discomfort for the occupants. One of the phenomena that is caused by indoor air quality is Sick Building Syndrome (SBS). Bad air circulation systems in the classroom can lead to Sick Building Syndrome (SBS) among students. This study was conducted to identify and evaluate the influence of natural ventilation in the classroom on the Sick Building Syndrome phenomenon. The object of the study was classrooms in the Department of Architecture, Faculty of Engineering, Diponegoro University. Data of temperature, relative humidity, and air velocity were collected to identify the indoor air quality of the classrooms. Based on the analysis, either with closed or open natural ventilation, the indoor air quality inside the classroom still did not meet the requirement of healthy air. Therefore, further actions such as improving the quality of natural ventilation are needed.

Abstract

Façade as the outer layer of building has an important role in distributing the sunlight into the building. Building with maximum natural lighting will support energy saving campaigns. This study discussed the evaluation of building façade to support natural lighting distribution inside the rooms. The study applied simulation method using DIALux Evo software. The results from simulations compared to the lighting standard from SNI 6197-2011. The study object was the Faculty Building of Art and Design of State University of Surabaya. According to the simulation, 40% - 70% distribution of average natural lighting intensity exceeded 1000 Lux. It caused people who stayed inside the room to feel uncomfortable due to glare. To reduce the light intensity inside the room, additional layers on the exterior façade were added. The results from simulation confirmed the secondary layer on the exterior facade was able to reduce the natural lighting intensity from 279 Lux to 1112 Lux in the morning and from 256 Lux to 879 Lux in the afternoon. Thus, it can minimize the effect of glare inside the room.

Abstract

The acoustic quality in the space is one of the important parameters to determine the comfort and health inside a building. To create a proper acoustic design, the function, environment, and noise around the rooms needed to be considered. Hall as one of the public facilities also needs a proper acoustic design for its interior space. Therefore, a study to identify the acoustic quality of the hall was conducted. Two methods were adopted in this study i.e., field measurement to collect existing acoustic data and computer simulation using I-Simpa V.I.3.4. Data showed the decibel value of sound source is 77.5 dB. The results from the simulation using various acoustic materials i.e., gypsum equipped with sound isolator as wall material, glass fiber panels as ceiling material, curtain, and wood as floor material can reduce the noise from the environment around the building between 34.6 – 46.4 dBA and reverberation time (RT) between 1.00 – 0.49 second.

Abstract

Indonesia is a tropical country and has sunshine throughout the year. Therefore, the use of sun shading on the building façade is important. In other hand, Balai Besar Wilayah Sungai Bengawan Solo is one of infrastructures for flood management and control in the Bengawan Solo River area. The current building design uses many wall openings without being equipped with sun shading, allowing the high intensity of sunlight entering the room. Due to this issue, a study was carried out to identify the shading effect on the façade design of Balai Besar Wilayah Sungai Bengawan Solo. Tropical architecture concept was used as a design approach. Simulation method used SketchUp was conducted to compare the effect of before and after secondary skin applied on the façade. The simulation results showed the existing building design had potential to enable high sunlight entering the room. The exposed area to the sunlight was 4 m2 – 11 m2 in the morning and 14 m2 – 31 m2 in the afternoon. While the results after secondary skin was applied on the façade showed a decrease in the area that exposed to the sunlight. It became 2 m2 - 3 m2 or decreased around 33% - 57% in the morning and 3.5 m2 - 8 m2 or decreased around 50% - 60% in the afternoon. Thus, it proves applying secondary skin on the building façade is effectively reducing the intensity of sunlight that enters the room.

Abstract

A square or city square functions as a significant urban catalyst, influencing the urban landscape as it acts as a hub for various social, economic, and cultural activities within a city. Its presence impacts the activities in the surrounding areas, fostering local business growth and providing a space for social interaction that enriches the city's life. However, the existing Sentana square design in Tangen District in Sragen, situated in Katelan Village, requires revitalization to meet the demand for activities and to facilitate communal engagement. A design recommendation has been proposed by the study program of Civil Infrastructure Engineering and Architectural Design, part of the Department of Civil and Planning at the Vocational School of Diponegoro University, through a community service program. Quality Function Deployment (QFD) serves as the primary design approach for the newly designed square, focusing on facilitating markets, supporting small businesses, and promoting local products, which, in turn, supports the Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes).

Abstract

Abstract

Research on sustainability has been increasing eah year with the emergence of global trends and movement towards more environmentally friendly lifestyle. This study employs bibliometric analysis methods to produce graphical and visual analyses related to research trends in sustainable architecture. Data were collected through a search in Scopus, resulting in the identification of 101 documents published between 2015 - 2025 based on specific criteria. The on-site Scopus analysis system was used for graphical analysis, and VOSViewer was utillized for visualizing research trends. The analisis revealed five significant research groups: sustainable design, thermal comfort, thermal performance, enviromental quality, and sustainable construction. From the analysis, it can be concluded that there is significant potential for further research on topics related to thermal comfort and sustainable architecture. Therefore, this study is expected serve as a valuable reference for further research.

Abstract

Local wisdom enhances building aesthetics and imparts philosophical values. Bioclimatic architecture has become popular among architects and designers because it reduces energy consumption without harming the environment. A study at the Universitas Diponegoro Campus Mosque applied bioclimatic design using a traditional joglo roof model simulated with Autodesk Ecotect. Measurements showed the maximum suhue on the second floor reached 28°C. Simulations indicated that bioclimatic design could reduce indoor suhues by 4.3°C - 5.2°C to 24.5°C. This result shows a lower suhue difference compared to the existing design by 7.5°C. This design can be a prospective solution for improving thermal comfort and providing an environmentally friendly design.
