Abstract

Abstract

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) producing tofu play an important role in the national economy, but most of them have not properly managed their production waste, which has the potential to cause environmental pollution. This community service activity aims to implement a simple, effective, and sustainable tofu liquid waste treatment technology, as well as to enhance the human resource capacity of MSME partners in Yogyakarta to manage waste independently. The methods used include observation, in-depth interviews, questionnaires, and the implementation of four outreach sub-activities: (1) the hazards of tofu waste content, (2) wastewater quality standards, (3) wastewater treatment methods, and (4) Internet of Things (IoT)-based waste treatment technology. The results of the activity show that more than 80% of the partners have been educated about the dangers of waste, understand the correct treatment methods, and are able to use IoT technology to monitor waste parameters in real-time via smartphones. The impact of this community service is an increase in partners' awareness of environmental responsibility and their readiness to implement sustainable waste treatment technology.

Abstract

The rapid increase in detergent waste due to urbanization poses significant environmental risks, particularly to water bodies. This study developed an IoT-based system to monitor detergent waste parameters—pH, temperature, and turbidity—using sensors integrated with an Arduino Mega 2560 microcontroller. The system ensures real-time data logging and visualization via a Blynk application, with thresholds set at pH 6–9, temperature <38°C, and turbidity <75 NTU, as per Indonesian environmental standards. Experimental results revealed that detergent waste samples exhibited pH levels of 4–5, temperatures of 27–28°C, and turbidity levels of 90–150 NTU, exceeding permissible limits. The system demonstrated high accuracy, with sensor errors below 1% for pH and temperature measurements. These findings underscore the need for advanced wastewater treatment processes and stricter regulatory enforcement. The IoT-based monitoring system proved effective for real-time environmental assessment, offering a scalable solution for urban wastewater management.

Abstract

Tofu industry produce waste liquid organic in large volumes that have the potential pollute environment If no processed optimally. Conventional monitoring that relies on manual observation is assessed not enough effective and vulnerable to inaccuracy. Research This aim for design and implement Internet of Things (IoT) based monitoring system for monitor key parameters waste liquid know in real-time. System This integrates temperature, TDS (Total Dissolved Solids), and turbidity sensors connected with ESP32 microcontroller.  The data obtained sent to the IoT platform for can monitored online. Test results show that system succeed detect parameter changes in accurate TDS value increases from 212 ppm (0% waste) to 1025 ppm (100% waste), turbidity increased from 1 NTU to 97 NTU. This result prove that developed monitoring system capable give accurate real-time information, so that can increase effectiveness processing waste and support practice industry sustainable.
