Abstract

Library materials as information resources are the main issue of the existence of university libraries in providing services to users. The existence of library materials as information resources has a variety of formats that can provide knowledge for its users. However, the existence of library materials will certainly not provide maximum benefit to its users if the library materials are not well organized, because standard information organization will create a good information retrieval process or library materials. This community service activity aims to provide knowledge and skills in analyzing subjects and determining notation of library materials using DDC for library managers of STIT Darul Ulum Kubu Raya. This training uses the lecture method in the form of socialization and practice. The results of this activity showed that the participants were very enthusiastic about participating in the training, the participants were able to analyze subjects and determine the correct notation independently or in groups and they were interested in processing library materials independently using DDC. The participants who were library managers at STIT Darul Ulum Kubu Raya gained knowledge about techniques for analyzing subjects and determining notation of library materials using DDC. The participants also hoped that from this activity there would be further activities in the form of training in library material cataloging techniques.

Abstract

Purpose- This study aims to describe students' practices in using AI as a creative partner in coursework, analyze strategies that support creativity and critical thinking, and explore ethical challenges, including plagiarism.Methodology- This is a qualitative phenomenological approach; data were collected through non-participant observations and in-depth interviews with students and librarians from five universities in Pontianak. The study also utilized secondary sources and NVivo software to manage, code, and visualize data.Finding- The findings reveal that students use AI tools such as ChatGPT, Google Bard, and other AI-based platforms to complete assignments, search for references, and create multimedia content. AI was reported to increase efficiency, support creative exploration, and personalize learning experiences. However, risks such as overdependence, plagiarism, and reduced independent thinking were also evident. Educators emphasized the need for digital and AI literacy training to ensure ethical and responsible use of AI.Contribution- AI provides significant benefits in supporting academic and creative tasks but simultaneously poses ethical and pedagogical challenges. The study recommends developing institutional policies, training programs, and guidelines that balance innovation with academic integrity.

Abstract

This research aims to determine strategies for developing librarian competency as well as supporting and inhibiting factors for developing librarian competency in the Pontianak City State University Library. The method for exploring data in the field uses interviews and observations using the case study method with qualitative descriptive analysis. The informants used were the heads of libraries from the three universities and 2 librarians each in each college library. The results of the research show that the problems found in three State University libraries in Pontianak City include the low skills of librarians in using technology and the problem of educational qualifications of leaders who do not meet the standards for running university libraries in 2015 and 2017. Conclusions from the research show that the strategy is carried out through competency certification for equality as well as through training, workshops, national seminars in the field of librarians, becoming members of the IPI, and involving librarians in competitions for outstanding librarians. Efforts to improve librarian competence include leadership support and the availability of funds. Meanwhile, the inhibiting factor is a lack of awareness of increasing competence through education and support from the work environment.
