Abstract

Research Originality: This study contributes to the literature by examining how household food consumption mitigates the poverty impact of earthquakes, an area that remains underexplored in post-disaster economic studies.Research Objectives: The study aims to analyze the role of per capita household food consumption in poverty reduction after the Lombok earthquake and to highlight its importance for economic recovery.Research Methods: This study uses panel data from 10 districts/cities in West Nusa Tenggara (2011-2019) to employ the First-Difference Generalised Method of Moments (FDGMM) to address potential endogeneity and estimate the causal relationship between food consumption and poverty.Empirical Results: The results show that per capita food consumption significantly reduces poverty under normal conditions and after a disaster. Meanwhile, economic growth positively impacts poverty, suggesting that the observed growth is not inclusive. The study also finds that the direct effect of the earthquake on food consumption is statistically insignificant, suggesting that other factors, such as relief programs, may have played a role in stabilizing consumption.Implications: These findings underscore the importance of policies that enhance food security and equitable distribution, particularly in post-disaster contexts. Strengthening social protection programs and ensuring inclusive economic growth is essential for long-term poverty reduction in disaster-prone areas.JEL Classification: C33, I32, Q54How to Cite:Pratama, A. Abstract

Well-being is multi-dimensional development goals because well-being can not be seen only from individual income, but also the entire condition such as health and education. Complexities in measuring well-being made economists try to measure the individual well-being with subjective well-being approach. One of subjective well-being's variable is the happiness. This study aims to examine the factors determining the individual happiness in Indonesia. Those factors consist of per capita expenditure, personal assets, and individual characteristics, including yearly working hours, years of schooling, health status, marital status, age, and gender. This study uses logistic and probit regression. Object of this study is the individuals in household based on SUSENAS's representation that was obtained from Indonesia Family Life Survey in 2007. This research found that income is stil being main determinant of individual happiness. Significant results also were found in the variables of schooling, health status, marital status, and u-shaped in age. From these results, increasing income through various sectors of the economy is needed to reach a higher level of well-being. Health and education should also receive support through infrastructure improvements. Thus, there will be more people that are able to improve their well-being.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the growth of TFP in the textile industry and textile product (TPT) in Indonesia. Productivity analysis is carried out to determine the extent of performance development and how efficient the textile industry in Indonesia. Calculation of the growth value of Total Factor Productivity (TFP) by decomposing the components of TFP namely TEC, TC, and SEC using the Stochastic Frontier Analysis (SFA). This study uses the type of firm level TPT data in the years 2010-2014. The data used is secondary data which is the result of an annual survey of large and medium manufacturing industry companies conducted by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) in the form of raw data. The data is in the form of unbalance raw data which is then selected and adjusted to balance data. With 2 industry groups namely the textile industry (ISIC 13) and the garment industry (ISIC 14). Based on the results of the study showed that the average value of TFP growth in 2010-2014 experienced negative growth or <1, this is due to the average growth value of TEC, SEC, and TC which decreased and tended to have negative values in the study period. This shows that the level of efficiency, use of technology, and scale of efficiency of the textile industry tends to be weak in the 2010-2014 period. The reduced level of industrial productivity can affect the decline in the competitiveness of textile products in the global market. Abstract

This study used normalized revealed sectoral comparative advantage, import demand share, growth identification and facilitation framework to identify market opportunities for Nigeria in the Chinese markets over the period 1988-2017. Our findings revealed that Nigeria has a steady and long-term comparative advantage in few commodities and there is limited scope for Nigeria to improve on its balance of trade due to limited export potentials. Furthermore, sixteen market opportunities were identified, out of which fourteen are stable and growing markets. Our findings also revealed that these market opportunities can't all be meet by Nigeria, as these commodities were not exportable due to poor competitive position and highly capital-intensive nature of the commodities. These findings are not only relevant to academics but also for policy making.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of environment, experience, education, temperature, work hour, age, fishermen group, access internet, and government aid on post-harvest fish losses. The sample of this study was taken from Banyuwangi district consisting of Muncar and Blimbingsari sub-districts, and Lamongan district consisting of Paciran and Lamongan sub-districts. This study uses a quantitative approach and regression estimation using Ordinary Least Square (OLS), to see the influence between the independent variables on the dependent variables in the study. The results of this study show that the variables of environment, education, experience, and fishermen group have a significant influence on post-harvest fish loss. In addition, the highest post-harvest fish loss (PHFL) was found in Blimbingsari sub-district, Banyuwangi district. Another location with a high PHFL value was Muncar sub-district. In contrast, Paciran and Brondong sub-districts in Lamongan district had lower PHFL values. The findings have managerial and academic implications. For policy makers and fisheries organizations, the results of this study highlight the need to increase access to efficient storage technologies and provide training to improve fishers' skills in post-harvest handling. Academically, this study contributes to the fisheries economics literature by offering empirical evidence on the key factors affecting PHFL in small-scale fisheries. There are still gaps in integrated empirical studies and in policies that address human resources and institutional support. Therefore, this study provides important insights for designing more holistic and targeted strategies to reduce PHFL in East Java.

Determination of bank input and output variables using a bank intermediation approach. This study used panel data on 38 banks in Indonesia for the period 2012-2018. This paper used the Stochastic Frontier Analysis (SFA) analysis method. The results of this study reveal four things. First, bank size has a negative effect bank cost efficiency. Second, credit risk has a positive effect on bank cost efficiency. Third, capital adequacy has a positive effect on bank efficiency. Fourth, the small core capital bank group has a negative effect on bank cost efficiency. Bank external variables do not affect bank cost efficiency in Indonesia.
