Abstract

This study aims to determine the academic hardiness of new students and use a model that integrates transformational coping, social support, and psychological well-being. As individuals undergoing a period of educational transition, new students need to adapt to the requirements and academic tasks that are different from schooling and insist on them to demonstrate their strong persistence personalities and develop their psychological well-being. This study uses a non-experimental cross-sectional research design. A total of 237 participants filled out the academic hardiness, skills, and psychological well-being questionnaire, and the data were analyzed with SEM version 8.80. The test results show that academic hardiness plays a direct role in developing participant's psychological well-being. Even though academic hardiness plays a role in developing transformational coping and social support skills, both skills do not play a role in fostering psychological well-being. These results indicate that commitment - control - and challenges that reveal participants' ability to adapt to the new academic demands can improve their individual ability to demonstrate their fully functioning self or fully functioning person in completing academic demands and tolerating pressures. However, a similar role does not find transformational coping skills and social support skills as the product of academic hardiness. The skill level does not determine the development of the participant's psychological well-being.

Abstract

Since it was raised more than two decades ago, research on Psychological Well-Being (PWB) in Indonesia has invited many interested people to follow up. This situation is in line with the development of the overall orientation of Positive Psychology as a form of renewal from conventional psychological orientation. A large number of PWB studies carried out in Indonesia provides quite broad theoretical and practical implications. In general, the data obtained through these studies use group norms on respondents who are relatively small in size, so that their findings are not accurate in providing a description of PWB in the group of respondents studied. Among the six dimensions psychological well-being (self-acceptance, personal growth, positive relations with others, purpose in life, environmental mental mastery, and autonomy), dimensions autonomy often show findings with lower scores than other dimensions. The purpose of this study was to find a profile of the dimensions of autonomy. The research method used is a meta-analysis and confirmation analysis of approximately 100 results of existing research, with a respondent size of around 3,000 people. After getting the score standard autonomy from the meta-analysis study, it will be continued by distributing the PWB questionnaire to around 844 respondents emerging adulthood. This research moved from the basic assumption that Indonesian culture was different from a western culture where the initial research of this PWB was developed. These cultural differences will then form different behaviors in displaying dimensions autonomy in everyday life.   Keywords: autonomy; meta-analysis; positive psychology; psychological well-being; emerging adulthood.

Abstract

Abstract. Procrastination is frequently found in around 30% to 60% of college students. Research that examines academic procrastination is associated with adaptive-maladaptive perfectionism, general self-efficacy, and sociodemographic factors, expected to gain a comprehensive understanding of procrastination so that anticipatory and countermeasures can be implemented. The target population of this study was male and female college students from state and private universities. The questionnaire was distributed physically and digitally (google-form) to 208 participants using the snowball sampling technique. Theresearch instrument consisted of the Academic Procrastination Scale (APS), The Frost Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale (FMPS), General Self-Efficacy (GSE), and questions on sociodemographic factors. All research instruments have been tested and met the criteria of validity and reliability. After the data cleaning and coding process, the data were assessed using multiple regressions dan hierarchical regression. The data analysis revealed that perfectionism and self-efficacy were generally predictors of procrastination. Similarly, from the results of model testing, all sociodemographic factors simultaneously affected procrastination, but gender was in line with influencing procrastination. Research findings show that procrastination was more motivated by many anxieties due to excessive attention to mistakes and doubts in acting. This research has limitations, namely the origin of the participating universities, primarily private universities rather than state universities. As a result, the level of variability of data sources tends to below. However, this study results can be followed up to address the issue of academic procrastination. Keywords: academic procrastination; adaptive and maladaptive perfectionism; general self-efficacy; sociodemographic

Abstract

Abstract. Academic stress is a factor that affects sleep quality. In this study, the variable that mediates the effect of academic stress to sleep quality is school burnout which is studied in the context of online learning. The research was conducted using quantitative research methods to 307 high school students in Bandung through snowball sampling. Each participant filled out the Student-Life Stress Inventory, the Secondary School Burnout Scale, and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index. The data were analyzed using the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM-PLS) technique. Based on the results of the mediation model test, the VAF number was 0.17 (17% 20%) which means that school burnout does not have a mediating effect on the effect of academic stress to sleep quality. Academic stress is more accurately seen as a direct effect. Another finding is that conflict indicator is less to represent academic stress, as well as burnout from family and burnout from studying less predict the school burnout. However, daytime dysfunction is the most representative component of sleep quality. Based on the outer loading, there are factors of academic stress, school burnout, and sleep quality that less to represent these variables. The findings reflect cultural bias. That is why this study suggests future researchers to use measuring instrument which not have risk of cultural bias. Keywords: academic stress; high school students; school burnout; sleep quality.

Abstract

Generally, the workforce is dominated by men, but data from the Statistics Indonesia highlight a different trend in Surabaya City as the number of working women is increasing. These working women also include married women who have responsibilities both at work and in their families. The relationship between these two responsibilities is often negatively viewed. The work-family enrichment theory explains that there are positive contributions that can be made between these two roles. The theory suggests that psychological factors contribute to the formation of work-family enrichment. Providing an overview of the contributions of optimism and self-efficacy to work-family enrichment is the aim of this study. It involved 120 working women in Surabaya City. Its research subjects were married women, aged between 20 and 39 years, had been working for at least 1 year, and worked full-time for a standard workday of 8 hours or 40 hours per week. The samplings of this study were obtained by convenience sampling. It utilized the Work-family Enrichment Scale (36 items, α=0.97), the Optimism Scale (10 items, α=0.63), and the Self-efficacy Scale (8 items, α=0.86). A multiple linear regression was implemented to test the hypotheses of this study. It reveals a positive relationship between optimism & self-efficacy and work-family enrichment. Self-efficacy and optimism together accounted for 63.1% of their contribution. It suggests the importance for the working wives to develop their optimism and self-efficacy to increase work-family enrichment and achieve a satisfactory balance between work and family. Keyword: Optimism; self-efficacy; work-family enrichment.

Abstract

Cyberbullying is a form of violence committed through electronic contact, either individually or in groups to harm others psychologically. This study examines the psychosocial factors behind the phenomenon of cyberbullying from the perspective of victims, perpetrators, and both victims and perpetrators, namely social anxiety, general belongingness, and social connectedness. Data were collected from 377 students aged 16-18 years by the use of purposive random sampling. All measuring instruments used were translated into Indonesian Language by a sworn translator, and the validity and reliability were tested. The results of data testing using hierarchical multiple regression show that psychosocial factors like general belongingness, social anxiety and social connectedness partially influence cyberbullying with the biggest role coming from general belongingness in a negative direction. Meanwhile, the results of simultaneous testing show that the role of social connectedness is not visible because it is dominated by general belongingness and social anxiety. The findings of the test using support vector machine (SVM-AI) clearly show that cyberbullying is a real phenomenon among teenagers. The psychosocial factors behind the phenomenon of cyberbullying are primarily driven by individual needs which not only require connectedness that meets the need for affiliation, but also relationships based on trust and care.
