Abstract

Background : As one of important markers of cardiovascular complication in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, low density lipoprotein (LDL) shall be maintained to be in normal range. Based on previous research, consumption of probiotic yogurt contains Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. Lactis is presumed can improve LDL in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus but the scientific evidence is still few. Objectives: To investigate the effect of probiotic yogurt on LDL in patients with type 2 diabetes. Methods: This study was double blinded randomized controlled trial which was conducted on 32 patientss with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Subjects were divided randomly into 2 groups and given 4 weeks intervention. Subjects in control group were given conventional yogurt while subjects in intervention group were given probiotic yogurt contains L. acidophilus LA5 and B. animalis subsp. Lactis Bb12. Food intake data was collected 4 times using 24-hour recall method during intervention period. LDL of subjects was measured before and after intervention. Results: There was no significant difference between LDL before and after intervention in control group (128 – 148.5 mg/dL) and intervention group (130 – 120.5 mg/dL). Meanwhile, LDL after intervention in control group and intervention group were significantly different (p<0.05). LDL between energy and macronutrients intake categories were not significantly different. Conclusion: Probiotic yogurt has a better LDL reduction effect in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus than conventional yogurt, although the reduction is not significant.

Abstract

Abstract

Adherence to Pedoman Gizi Seimbang is one of important part of non-communicable diseases prevention. Diet quality and quantity need to be assessed, thus it can detect the risk of non-communicable diseases. Healthy Eating Index (HEI) has been used in many previous studies as an indicator to examine the relationship between diet quality and disease biomarker, like fasting blood glucose (FBG). In Indonesia, the HEI has been modified to Indeks Gizi Seimbang (IGS). However there is no study that examine the relationship between IGS score and biomarker such as FBG yet. This study objective was to analyze the correlation between IGS score and FBG in adult in SDN X Sidoarjo. A cross sectional study design with 30 respondents. IGS4-105 score was measured by 2-days repeated 24h-recall, while FBG by using Glucostick method. Mann Whitney and Spearman test were performed to analyze the study results. The respondents' vegetable intake was relatively low (55.4 grams/day), while the intake of total fat (32.6%-e), saturated fat (16.7%-e), and added sugar (6.8%-e) were excessive. The intake of vegetables and non-dairy animal foods was significantly different between normal FBG group and high FBG group (respectively p value: 0.046, 0.011). The mean score of IGS4-105 was 52.3. There was no significant relationship between the IGS4-105 score and the FBG, but a positive relationship was found between the IGS score for animal foods and the FBG (r = 0.38; p = 0.04). A higher FBG was found in the group with a higher animal food IGS score.

Abstract

Adult has higher risk of degenerative diseases. Healthy diet is a way to prevent degenerative diseases. Based on the interviews with the head of RT 01 RW 02 Dukuh Menanggal Surabaya, there was no nutrition education conducted, thus knowledge and implementation of healthy eating in that area was low. Improvement in healthy diet can be done through nutrition education using Health Belief Model approach. The purpose of this activity was to increase participants' perceptions of nutrition and health. The participants were 17 adult women from RT 01 RW 02 Dukuh Menanggal Surabaya. Nutrition education regarding Pedoman Gizi Seimbang was carried out using Health Belief Model, as well as demonstrations of nutritional status measurement. The activity’s results showed that majority of participants had high nutritional status. Based on the evaluation with the pre-post test, participants' perceptions of vulnerability, severity, and benefit was elevated, while the perception of barrier declined. There was an improvement in participants' perceptions of diet and health as much as 201.3%. In addition, regular monitoring of nutritional status in adults must be carried out as screening of nutrition and health problem risk.

Abstract

Many recommendations were made by the Indonesia’s government to prevent the occurrence of COVID-19 infection. One of those recommendations is to make several behavioural changes, such asincreasing the consumption of foods containing vitamin A, C, E, and zinc to increase immunity system in the body. These eating pattern can be influenced by several factors, such as individual perceptions. Thepurpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the concept of the health belief model and the eating pattern of Nutrition Students of UNUSA during the COVID-19 pandemic. Method of this study was analytic observational study with cross sectional design. The instruments used in this study were online questionnaire regarding the health belief model and semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire (SQFFQ). All respondents had a high perception of the seriousness of the COVID-19 disease, benefits in increasing consumption of healthy foods, support for eating healthy foods, and self efficacy to adopt healthy eating pattern. 47.8% of respondents had a low perception of barriers to healthy behavior, while 65.5% of respondents had a high perception of susceptibility to COVID-19 infection. Most of the respondents had adequate daily intake of vitamin A (93.8%) and vitamin C (74.3%). There was a difference in vitamin Cintake between the group with high perceived barrier and the low perceived barrier group (p value 0.037). There was significantly negative relationship between perceived barrier and vitamin E intake in the subjects, which means that if a person has higher barriers to consuming vitamin E, the person's vitamin E intake will also be lower. Keywords : COVID-19, health belief model, antioxidant, eating pattern

Abstract

Background:   The Covid-19 pandemic increases the risk of weight gain and stress in young adults, especially female college students. Adequate exercise interventions are needed to prevent the incidence of obesity and its complications.  Objective :   To determine the effectiveness of aerobic dance exercise and walking on body mass index (BMI) and stress in overweight or obese female college students.   Methods :  This study was an experimental pre-posttest design with 28 people sample size divided into 2 groups, namely the intervention group (aerobic exercise) and the control group (walking). The treatment was given for 4 weeks with a frequency of 3 times a week. Results : The results showed a significant decrease in stress scores before and after treatment in the intervention and control groups (p 0.05). The post-test stress scores between the intervention and control groups were also significantly different, which means that aerobic exercise has a better effect on reducing stress than walking. A significant decrease in BMI also occurred before and after treatment in the intervention group from an average of 27.65 (2.39) to 27.34 (2.41), but this did not occur in the control group. Conclusion :   Aerobic exercise is proven to be effective in reducing BMI and stress in overweight or obese female students, while walking is only effective for reducing stress but cannot reduce BMI in overweight or obese female studentsKeywords : Female College Student, Body Mass Index, Stress, Aerobic Dance, Walking
