Abstract

The SS400 low carbon steel is widely used in the agricultural equipment industry because of its specific properties, malleability good corrosion resistance, and high strength to weight ratio. However, according to several research results it has several weaknesses, low surface hardness, ductility and wear resistance. Therefore, it is necessary to improve its mechanical properties so that the agricultural equipment products produced are of better quality. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of variations in time and cooling media in the pack carburizing-quenching treatment of SS400 steel specimens. The pack carburizing treatment was carried out at a temperature of 875 ºC, 90 minutes, the carburizing medium was a mixture of corncob charcoal powder and Picntada maxima shell powder, with a composition of 70%: 30%, followed by a quenching process with variations in time (1, 2, 3, 4). minutes) and cooling medium (water, oil SAE 40, cane molasses 10% and  cane molasses 30%. The results of the study showed that the time and cooling medium affected the surface hardness, ductility and microstructure of the specimens With 30% cane molasses cooling medium, quenching time of 4 minutes, the largest specimen absorbed impact energy (toughness) is 2.23 J/mm2. On the other hand, the lowest surface hardness number is 285 Kg/mm2.The increased ductility causes the cracking marks to disappear on the specimen surface. Based on observations with SEM, there is a decomposition of the martensite structure with coarser grain sizes.

Abstract

Cellular lightweight concrete as sandwich composite core has the advantage of its density, with the presence of foam which makes it lighter. However, the presence of foam reduces its strength. Reinforcement with bamboo pins was carried out to increase the compressive strength of the sandwich composite. Bamboo pins connecting the composite skin reinforce the cellular lightweight concrete at an angle of 900, 700,650 to the composite skin. With the addition of bamboo pins, it increases the compressive strength of the sandwich composite in both flat and edge directions.

Abstract

Water is one of the factors which very important and necessary in the life of living creatures. Therefore,  water  must  be  available  whenever  and  wherever  in  the  quantity,  timing,  and sufficient quality. Hydraulic Ram Pump (Hydram) is a pump which does not require external energy as the power source. The purposes of this research are understanding the influence of mounting tube compressor with tilt angle from the water weight-lift of output pipe .This  research  uses  hydrant  pump  by  the  specification of  tube  compressor where  its’ diameter 3 inches and a height of 60 cm. The falling angle of pump is 35°. The falling-height is 2 meter with 4 variations of weight-lift 4, 4½, and 5 meters.The method of analysis is conducted by analyzing data obtained during the experiment, where the   results in the form of quantitative data which is presented in type of   tables and displayed in graphical form. The results of the research shows that  the best output debit on mounting tube compressor variation 90° that is 0.035 l/s  with 4 meters water weight-lift, while the lowest output debit on mounting tube compressor variation that is 0.011 l/s 5 meters water weight-lift. The best efficiency is 27.3 % in the mounting tube compressor variation 90°  with 4 meters of water weight-lift, while the lowest efficiency is 6.5 % in the mounting tube compressor variation 90° with 5 meters of water weight-lift.

Abstract

With the depleting reserves of energy sources and fuel shortages that occur in Indonesia today, it is needed a cheap alternative energy sources and environmentally friendly, one of which is biogas. In this study biogas is generated from horse manure. The fermentation of horse manure can produce biogas with the largest component of the CH4 (49.5%) and CO2 (49.7%). The use of biogas as a fuel is still in the household scale and has not been used optimally. This is due to the biogas still containing high levels of CO2 so that it has low value of heat is produced. This research reduces the CO2 levels by using the Ca(OH)2 or limestone sedimentary, and then react with the CO2 to form CaCO3 and H2O. The variables  studied are the influence of the flow rate of the biogas that CO2 absorbed and CH4. CO2 absorption made by passing the biogas with a variety of flow rates in the Ca(OH)2 at a certain concentration. Gas and Ca(OH)2 contact each other and the chemical reaction occurs. Every 2 minute interval of gas coming out of the absorber is detected by a biogas tester for analysis of absorbed CO2 and CH4 produced. The research results show that the average CO2 can be absorbed at all the variations of biogas flow rate (5 liter/min. 10 liter/min and 15 liter/min) produced CH4 at the biogas flow rate of 10 liter/min is 91%, then at the flow rate of 5 liter/min is 76.2% and at the flow rate of 15 liter/min is 72%.

Abstract

Rotary plow on hand tractor functions as a tool to plow the land efficiently in agricultural mechanization. This tool is made of ASTM A36 steel which functions to cut, chop, and turn the soil, thus improving the soil structure and preparing the land for planting. The disadvantages of ASTM A36 steel are low  impact toughness and corrosion resistance. In this study, ASTM A36 steel was pack carburizing quenching, with variations in cooling media in the form of water, coconut oil , and SAE 40 oil. The results of the studythe use of coconut oil as a cooling medium in the pack carburizing quenching process of ASTM A36 steel cause lower corrosion rates, slower cooling rates so that energy and impact toughness are higher compared to water as a cooling media So that coconut oil as a cooling media can be applied to the pack carburizing quenching rotary plow process to increase corrosion resistance.
