Abstract

Abstrak: Pesatnya perkembangan dan kemajuan teknologi saat ini berdampak pada peningkatan jumlah pengguna information and communication technology (ICT). Perkembangan teknologi tersebut melahirkan berbagai macam aplikasi yang dapat dimanfaatkan dalam konteks pembelajaran. Namun, perkembangan teknologi tersebut tidak dibarengi dengan peningkatan kompetensi guru dalam mengintegrasikan teknologi terhadap pembelajaran. Kondisi ini disebabkan karena guru kurang termotivasi dan tidak mendapatkan pengetahuan serta skills yang cukup untuk memanfaatkan aplikasi-aplikasi pembelajaran tersebut. Kegiatan pelatihan yang dilaksanakan ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kompetensi guru dalam memanfaatkan ICT sebagai media pembelajaran sekaligus menghasilkan artikel ilmiah sebagai hasil dari pengabdian kepada masyarakat yang dilakukan. Pelatihan ini dilaksanakan secara offline di SMPN 46 Muaro Jambi dengan agenda dan materi yang telah disiapkan oleh tim pengabdian. Jumlah peserta yang hadir dalam pelatihan ini sebanya k 50 orang guru yang berasal dari 3 sekolah berbeda (SMPN 46 Muaro Jambi, MA Raudhatul Muhajirin, dan MTs Raudhatul Muhajirin) yang berada disekitar tempat pelaksanaan kegiatan. Materi pelatihan berupa praktik penggunaan aplikasi pembelajaran yang terdiri dari HotPotatoes, Kahoot, dan Superteacher. Hasilnya, peserta mampu membuat latihan dan kuis berbasis digital melalui aplikasi HotPotatoes, Kahoot, dan Superteacher yang dapat mereka manfaatkan dalam pembelajaran di sekolah.Abstract: Nowadays, the rapid development of technology has an impact on increasing the number of users of information and communication technology (ICT). The development of technology has brought to various applications that can be used in the context of learning. However, the development of technology is not accompanied by an increase in teacher competence in integrating technology into learning and teaching process. This condition is caused by some factors, such as, teachers are less motivated and do not get sufficient knowledge and skills to take advantage of these learning applications. This current training activity aims to improve the competence of teachers in utilizing ICT as a learning medium as well as to produce scientific articles as a result of community service. This training was conducted in an offline mode at SMPN 46 Muaro Jambi, with the agenda and materials prepared by the team. The number of participants who attended this training was 50 teachers from 3 different schools located around the location of the training. The training material is in the form of practical use of learning applications consisting of HotPotatoes, Kahoot, and Superteacher. As a result, participants were enthusiastic in participating in the training and were able to use some of the learning applications carried out in the training.

Abstract

Several writing achievements have been achieved by students of Madrasah Aliyah Negeri (MAN) Insan Cendikia Provinsi Jambi, namely 1st place in the 2018 National level Poetry Writing Competetion, 2020 National Level Essay Competition, Critical Essay Writing Finalist, 3rd place in the 2021 Balitbangda Scientific Writing Competition. Seeing their potential, the community service team held creative writing training and one of them is short story writing. This community service program aims to improve students’ ability to write short stories. This community service activity which was attended by 120 students were carried out through training and mentoring for students using the “Showing Not Telling” method. The outputs of this community service are students’ short stories of MAN Insan Cendikia Provinsi Jambi uploaded in the Padlet.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to design a measurement model for Graduate Learning Achievement (GLA) at Jambi University. Internal small group discussions and literature reviews were the choice of data collection models for this development research. The research results reveal that Measuring Graduate Learning Achievements (GLA) is a crucial aspect in ensuring the quality of graduates from a tertiary institution. Quality graduates can increase the competitiveness of human resources both at national and international levels.

Abstract

The current research depicts the points as pursue: 1) to portray the types of lexical collocations ascertained in the descriptive writings of the English Education students, 2) to represent the types of colloquial errors depicted in the descriptive writings of the English Education students, and 3) to descsribe the English Education students’ difficulties in allocating the lexicons in their descriptive writings. The present study has drawn on a descriptive-interpretative qualitative design on the linguistic behaviors (lexicons) and writing skill of the research subjects holistically on the bases of the contexts of the writings that have been previously offered. The data of the current study have been analyzed by means of the interactive model. This interactive model consists of three research pathways: data reduction, data display, and conclusion/ data verification that are integrated before, being and after the data are collected. Within this model, the entire data are not reviewed (reduced): the data reduction has been carried out in several ways, for instance by selecting the descriptive writings allied to the topic of this study, i.e., colloquial lexicons. Commencing the 8 available types of colloquial lexicons, 3 (three) lexicons are not countered by the research participants, to be precise: substitution, conjunction, and exclamation. Correspondingly, these colloquial lexicons are encoded by the research participants’ native (Indonesian) language intervention, lack of vocabulary, word-for-word translation and direct translation, ignorance of the rules on Indonesian and English, and lack of knowledge about the nature of collocations.

Kegiatan pelatihan yang dilaksanakan ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kompetensi guru dalam memanfaatkan Aplikasi Teknologi sebagai media pembelajaran digital sekaligus menghasilkan artikel ilmiah sebagai hasil dari pengabdian kepada masyarakat yang dilakukan. Pelatihan ini dilaksanakan secara tatap muka di sekolah menengah negeri di Kabupaten Muaro Jambi dengan agenda dan materi yang telah disiapkan oleh tim pengabdian. Jumlah peserta yang hadir dalam pelatihan ini sebanyak 50 orang guru yang berasal dari 4 sekolah berbeda yang berada di sekitar tempat pelaksanaan kegiatan. Materi pelatihan berupa praktik penggunaan aplikasi pembelajaran yaitu H5P. Hasilnya yaitu adanya peningkatan keterampilan peserta dalam mengembangkan media pembelajaran digital.

Abstract

The current study aims is to investigate the perceptions and expectations of English as a foreign language (EFL) university students regarding the usage of information and communication technology (ICT) in English language learning. This study also investigates the frequency of ICT use among EFL university students for both general and English learning purposes. A convergent parallel mixed methods design was used in this study. Two instruments were used to collect data they are, an online questionnaire and semi-structured interview. A total of 337 students participated in the online questionnaire. A Semi-structured interview was used to gather in-depth information to follow up on the questionnaire to 10 participants purposefully selected who answered the questionnaire with a set of criteria; participants agree to be interviewed; the participants’ mean score of survey result is >3. Quantitative data were analyzed descriptively, and the qualitative data were analyzed and coded thematically. The findings indicated that students spend more time using ICT for general objectives (e.g. social media and entertainment) than for English study. They did, however, demonstrate favorable attitudes regarding the utilization of ICT for English language learning. Furthermore, they intended the campus to provide adequate technological facilities and internet access in each classroom to assist the learning process. Students believe that ICT can assist them enhance their English language skills. As a result, teachers should incorporate more ICT into their English language instruction.

Abstract

This study aims to know the use of ICT frequency and purposes among EFL university students. It is also examines the students’ perception and expectation towards ICT use in learning English as a foreign language. This research applied quantitative approach with a survey research design. The data were collected from a survey which involved 337 students who were selected using stratified random sampling technique from 13 faculties of a state university in Jambi, Indonesia. The instrument used in collecting the data was a questioner adapted from Tri and Nguyen (2014). Data collected were analyzed by using SPSS 23 in form of descriptive quantitative. The findings indicated that the students spent more time in using ICT for general purposes than English learning purposes. On the other hand, they showed positive attitudes towards the use of ICT in learning English. The students perceive that ICT has the important role in improving their English language skills, and they expected that the teachers use ICT more frequently in teaching and learning process. Furthermore, they expected that campus can provide sufficient equipment and ICT access in each classroom in order to make the learning process become effective.
