Abstract

Abstract

Local traditions serve as essential sources of values and wisdom that strengthen character education while preserving the nation’s cultural identity. One tradition rich in philosophical meaning is Bucu Kendit, practiced by the Montong community in Tuban, East Java, which is now increasingly marginalized due to globalization. This study aims to reveal the philosophical meanings and character education values embedded in the Bucu Kendit tradition, as well as its contribution to strengthening cultural identity and youth character formation. The research method employed a qualitative approach with an ethnographic design through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and literature review. The findings show that the Bucu Kendit tradition embodies values of religiosity, social solidarity, integrity, discipline, and respect for nature values aligned with the dimensions of character education in the global era. Revitalization efforts include integrating traditional values into school curricula, developing culture-based extracurricular activities, and utilizing digital media to broaden the reach of cultural education. The implication is that the Bucu Kendit tradition plays a strategic role in reinforcing local cultural identity while nurturing a generation rooted in local wisdom yet adaptable to global change

Abstract

Please Early childhood learners possess diverse characteristics in terms of interests, learning styles, and developmental readiness. However, instructional practices in many early childhood education settings often remain uniform, limiting opportunities for children to engage in activities aligned with their individual needs. This study explores the implementation of differentiated instruction through choice-making as a strategy to enhance children’s engagement and reduce disruptive behaviors in early learning settings. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, the study was conducted at TK PKK I Bangilan Tuban with one teacher, 15 children aged 4–5 years, the school principal, and three parents as participants. Data were collected through participant observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model with triangulation to ensure validity. Findings indicate that differentiated instruction was carried out in three stages: preparation (diagnostic assessment of readiness, interests, and learning styles), implementation (differentiated content, process, and product), and evaluation-reflection. The results show that choice-making strategies significantly increased children’s active participation, focus, and enthusiasm during learning activities, while also reducing instances of tantrums and passive behavior. Children demonstrated greater autonomy, motivation, and positive emotional regulation when provided with meaningful options. This study concludes that differentiated instruction integrated with choice-making not only supports cognitive, social, and emotional development, but also fosters an inclusive, engaging, and equitable learning environment. The findings have theoretical implications for enriching the literature on differentiated instruction and practical implications for PAUD teachers in designing flexible, child-centered learning strategies.

Abstract

This research was conducted in Dagangan Village, Parengan District, Tuban Regency, with the aim of developing processed banana products into original banana chips and melted chocolate banana chips. Kepok bananas were chosen as the raw material based on their dense texture and distinctive flavor. The research method included material selection, peeling, slicing, frying, chocolate coating (for the melted variant), cooling, packaging, labeling, and organoleptic testing. The results showed that the original banana chips produced a crispy and savory product, while the melted chocolate variant offered a modern, innovative flavor that was more appealing to children and teenagers. The simple processing process allows the village community to produce chips with limited capital, although challenges such as high oil content and chocolate stability at room temperature remain. Airtight packaging and informative labels have been shown to maintain quality and increase product appeal in the market. Economically, the banana chip business can increase community income, create new jobs, and strengthen village independence. This study concluded that banana chips have significant potential as a superior product in Dagangan Village and can be further developed through training, technological innovation, and digital marketing strategies.
