Abstract

This paper aims at determining the psychological factors of bankers in implementing Profit and Loss Sharing (PLS) financing contracts in Islamic banks. The phenomenon of low occurrence of PLS financing motivated the researcher to write this paper. The theory of modified planned behavior is used to explain the research problem. The research data were obtained from 139 employees of Islamic banks in Indonesia and processed using SEM-PLS. The results show that trust has an effect on attitudes; subjective attitudes and norms affect intentions; perceived behavioral control has no effect on intention and behavior; intention influences behavior; and the perception of inefficiency has a negative effect on the relationship between intention and behavior. This paper contributes to the elaboration of the psychological factors affecting the behavior of bankers in implementing PLS. The implications of this paper for designing the strategies to improve the bankers' behavior in PLS financing are: the management must boost the bankers' confidence for the PLS financing benefits; the stakeholder’s social pressure is needed; the authority of bankers in implementing PLS financing needs to be increased; the bankers' access to the partner’s financial reports needs to be expanded; and the regulators need to give appreciation to Islamic banks that have a larger PLS portfolio.

Abstract

This research aims to examine the influence of organizational characteristics and audit opinion on zakat performance in Indonesia. The study examines 33 zakat institutions in Indonesia from 2017 to 2021, with 151 observations. Zakat performance in this study is measured using activity ratios, growth ratios, and excess zakat scores. The independent variables in this study are organizational characteristics (i.e. organizational age and organizational size) and audit opinion. The data is analyzed using data panel regression. The research findings indicate that audit opinion positively and significantly impacts zakat performance. Organizational size has a positive and significant impact on zakat performance in model 1, while it does not impact other models. Organizational age does not have an impact on zakat performance. This study highlights the importance of effective and efficient zakat management. Additionally, accountability and transparency reflected through audit opinions can minimize the potential for information asymmetry and conflicts of interest between agents and principals. Therefore, the organization's operational experience, asset growth, and audit opinion can enhance zakat performance in terms of the growth of fund collection and the practical and innovative distribution of zakat, infaq, and shadaqa funds.

Abstract

This research explores Islamic bank customers' acceptance of the digitalization of cash waqf as a form of waqf transformation in Indonesia. Cash waqf has great potential to support the economic development of the people through social funding sources. By utilizing digital technology, cash waqf transformation aims to increase community participation, expand the scope of waqf, and realize broader social benefits. Based on the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) model, this research analyzes factors such as performance expectations, business expectations, social influence, and facilitating conditions on customer acceptance. The research results show that all variables have a significant influence, but aspects of religiosity, belief and other factors need to be investigated further. This research contributes to the development of a digitalization system for cash waqf in the sharia banking sector to increase inclusion and effectiveness of waqf.

Abstract

The Indonesian Sharia Economic Masterplan (MEKSI) 2019-2024 presents a detailed plan for the growth of the Islamic financial industry. It focuses on combining the fiscal, commercial, and ZISWAF (Zakat, Infaq, Sadaqah, and Waqf) sectors to promote economic inclusivity. The objective of this study is to assess the management mechanism of the Hajj Fund by BPKH and investigate alternative investment models that make use of cash waqf to enhance the efficiency of fund management. The technique encompasses an extensive examination of existing literature, both qualitative and quantitative evaluations, interviews with relevant stakeholders, and a comparative analysis of successful models implemented in other countries. Financial modeling is utilized to simulate the effects of various asset allocation methods. The results suggest that integrating cash waqf into BPKH's current procedures can lead to considerable improvements. Cash waqf offers higher financial returns and larger social welfare benefits through targeted investments in Sharia-compliant financial instruments such as Sukuk. The iterative process of allocating and reinvesting income guarantees the long-term viability and expansion of Hajj funds. The study highlights the capacity of cash waqf to strengthen financial stability and social influence, in accordance with Islamic principles and promoting economic growth. These findings have significant ramifications for politicians and financial managers in enhancing the management of Hajj funds to more effectively cater to the needs of the Muslim community.

Abstract

This study explores the role of cash waqf as a financial source for universities, focusing on its management and impact at IPB. The institution overseeing cash waqf at IPB operates with principles of good governance, transparency, accountability, and professionalism. Fundraising is conducted both online and offline, with a consistent monthly auto-debit system from faculty and staff salaries. Additionally, IPB actively involves the community in waqf contributions. Investments of cash waqf funds occur in both financial and real sectors, including deposits and cash waqf-linked sukuk in collaboration with BWI. The allocation of cash waqf benefits is executed through direct and indirect mechanisms. Direct benefits include scholarships, community empowerment programs, infrastructure development, research funding, and social responsibility initiatives. Indirect benefits support character development, religious events, Covid-19 care programs, and educational assistance. Furthermore, IPB distributes waqf-generated resources through medical equipment donations, scholarship programs, water station installations, and burial support. These efforts highlight the strategic role of cash waqf in enhancing university sustainability, fostering social welfare, and strengthening educational institutions. The findings emphasize the significance of structured waqf management in optimizing its benefits and ensuring long-term impact within the academic and social domains.

Abstract

This study aims to shed light on why there hasn't been a noticeable rise in Islamic banks during the past three decades of their existence. Data were gathered for this qualitative study through observation, interviews, and documentation studies. The study's findings demonstrate that the growth of Islamic banks has slowed, as evidenced by their low market share, declining financing deposit ratio (FDR), and declining return on assets (ROA). The expansion of the Islamic Banking staff network and offices has also slowed down. Islamic banking's initial reasons for stagnation include its subpar performance in carrying out social tasks, specifically the collecting and distribution of cash. The second requirement is the capacity to apply sharia principles to every banking activity. The three Arabic term labels on the goods offered by Islamic Banking continue to cause confusion in the community. Fourth, judicial disputes unrelated to banking include entities and people associated with sharia designations, which have an effect on public confidence. To change the stagnation of Islamic banks, strategic steps including expanding their social role are required.

Abstract

This study uses a combination of two theories, namely Theory Reasoned Action (TRA) and Theory Push-Pull-Mooring (PPM). This study aims to determine the effect of religious attitude, alternative attractiveness and subjective norm on customers switching intention. The research method used is quantitative. This study uses primary data distributed to respondents with purposive sampling technique. The population in this study are Islamic bank customers who have previously been customers of conventional banks in Central Java who are Muslim. The sample used is 100 respondents obtained through distributing questionnaires. This research uses multiple regression analysis technique with Smart-PLS software. The results of hypothesis testing indicate that religious attitude, alternative attractiveness and subjective norm have a positive and significant effect on customers switching intentions on Islamic bank customers. The result of the highest influence is shown by the subjective norm variable with a regression coefficient value of 0,375 with a significance value of 0,000. This means that a person's intention to perform a behavior can be built through their social environment. The greater the support from the social environment such as family, friends, neighbors and religious leaders can influence the intention of conventional customers to immediately switch to Islamic bank.
