Abstract

The demand for fuel is increasing every year that the supply comes to decrease. Biodiesel is an alternative energy for diesel fuel. It has the same characteristics as diesel fuel. It also renewable and environmentally friendly. The mixture of biodiesel and diesel fuel lessens the concentration of hydrocarbons and increases the cetane value. Therefore, combustion occurs completely. The purpose of this research is to compare the power, SFC and exhaust emission of direct injection engines with B-20 fuel to those with diesel fuel. The method to test the engine power uses ISO 1585 where the engine speed range starts from 1000-4000 rpm. The test results show that the engine has better performance when it uses mixture fuels but it is not for the engine with diesel fuel. The mixture fuels give higher power to the engine, but less emission. It is the opposite of the engine with diesel fuel, even though the difference in power is slight. It can be concluded that the mixture fuels influence the performance of direct injection engine.

Abstract

The CBL offer dynamic and engaging learning experiences that cater to diverse learning styles and preferences. By working collaboratively in groups, students not only enhance their language skills but also develop essential communication, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities. Therefore, this study is aimed at investigating the efficacy of case-based learning model integrated with critical thinking skills to improve EFL learners’ reading comprehension. This study is designed in a classroom action research. 27 EFL learners are involved in this study. The research participants are selected in purposive random sampling. To collect the research data, the observation sheets, reading tests, and critical thinking tests are applied as the research instruments. The data consisted of qualitative and quantitative one. Qualitative data are analyzed qualitatively while the quantitative data are counted in statistical analysis. Based on the results, the findings show that the case-based learning model integrated with critical thinking skills is effective to improve EFL learners’ reading comprehension. The improvement lies on learners’ vocabulary mastery, grammar knowledge, comprehension, reading strategies, and fluency. For further studies, researchers can include metacognitive strategies and measure learners’ linguistic awareness in learning language skills.

Abstract

Coffee is a favorite of the Indonesian people, especially with the increase in coffee business after the COVID-19 pandemic, so the demand for coffee raw materials from farmers has also increased. Residents of Ketindan village on the slopes of Mount Arjuna, under the guidance of Alir Coffee, take advantage of this condition by cultivating coffee, although the technology used is still simple, and post-harvest waste has not been managed properly. To improve production efficiency and waste management, the Department of Chemical Engineering – State Polytechnic of Malang held PpM activities, namely educating farmers through presentation methods and question and answer discussions, the activity ended by providing feedback to participants and handing over a set of Huller Coffee tools to increase the productivity of coffee farmers. Feedback data processing is done by the Likert scale method. The results of the PkM activity, show that residents are very enthusiastic in attending socialization activities and many participants in question and answer discussion sessions, while the Likert scale results obtained a percentage score of 95% which means that partners are very satisfied with this socialization activity. With the knowledge of post-harvest coffee management and processing, this activity is running smoothly and is expected to increase the knowledge of post-harvest coffee education, increase the economic potential for residents, and can be implemented sustainably.
