Abstract

Preceptorship is a specialized area that prepares new recruited nurses and students to integrate previously acquired knowledge with skills and competencies from dependent supervised practice to independent collaborative practice. The study objective is to identify the effect of preceptorship training on new nurses adaptation during orientation. The research method is Pre-Experimental design in one group pretest-posttest without control and 37 respondents with purposive sampling technique. The result showed that pretest scoring of preceptorship training that majority PPA was poor and majorty PS, SC, and CCDTI were fair. While the posttest scoring of preceptorship training was increased significantly as followed: majority PPA was good (70.3%), majorty PS was good (67.6%), majority SC was good (59.5%), and majority CCDTI was good (83.8%) and a meaningful effect with p-value 0.000 (? <0.05). It can be concluded that there was a meaningful effect of Preceptorship Training on New Nurse’s Adaptation During Orientation. Optimal preceptorship will build interpersonal relationships between new and senior nurses, good communication, create a conducive work environment, reduce stress that can reduce the tendency to quit in the middle of the orientation period. It is hoped that further researchers will add variables of turnover intention, burnt out, self-efficacy and work stress.

Abstract

The implementation of informed consent and refusal is a legal, ethical, and professional obligation in midwifery services, aimed at protecting patients’ rights and mitigating the risks of disputes and legal liabilities for healthcare providers. However, its implementation still faces serious challenges. The objective of this study is to assess the level of compliance among healthcare workers in implementing informed consent and refusal, and examine aspects of legal accountability and innovative strategies supporting midwifery services in Medan City. The research method used in this study employed normative juridical and empirical methods with a descriptive-analytical approach. Data were collected through purposive sampling using the Slovin formula and analyzed both quantitatively and qualitatively. Based on the survey results, the majority of respondents were categorized as compliant (66.7%), although one-third were non-compliant (33.3%). Institutional support through Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) was relatively strong; however, legal training and the adoption of digital documentation remained limited, resulting in weak legal awareness and substantive compliance. These findings underscore the importance of strengthening legal capacity through the dissemination and enhancement of health law literacy. Furthermore, standardization of implementation and the acceleration of digital transformation are required to minimize legal risks and improve the quality of services.

Abstract

Background: Proficiency in speaking English is an individual's ability to convey thoughts and desires verbally to anyone. However, it can be challenging to develop this skill without continuous self-training. One effective approach is through peer or classmate interactions, as well as guidance from English language instructors. Numerous factors influence the success of students in learning English, and motivation and attitude are crucial aspects needed by nursing students to master the language.Purpose: To identify the description of motivation and attitude among nursing students in learning English, providing input for learning achievement targets for English courses and the most suitable learning methods to enhance the language skills of nursing students at Murni Teguh University.Method: A quantitative research method with a descriptive design was employed. The total sampling technique was used, and 157 respondents willingly filled out the questionnaire from a total population of 167 individuals. Instruments for measuring motivation and attitude were adopted from previous studies with established validity. Data analysis utilized Univariate data analysis. Results: Instrumental motivation among respondents (90.5%) was higher than integrative motivation (88.9%). The majority of respondents had high motivation at 89.6%. Meanwhile, most respondents exhibited good attitudes at 41.2%, followed by fairly good attitudes at 36.4%, and poor attitudes at 22.4%.Conclusion: Nursing students at Murni Teguh University demonstrate high motivation and positive attitudes toward learning English. However, this does not align with the English language proficiency of the respondents.Suggestion: It is highly recommended for future researchers to include additional variables such as interest in learning, self-concept, self-efficacy, the cause-and-effect correlation between each researched variable in English language learning, and the use of effective English teaching methods to enhance the English language proficiency of nursing students.
