Abstract

This research related to speech functions in cigarette billboard texts. The objectives are to describe the category and to derive dominantly used and explain the factors of the phenomenon of speech functions. The research method used descriptive qualitative. Data was collected by applying documentary techniques from commercial cigarette billboard texts (headline, subhead, slogan and images) in public places around the city center of Medan. The finding describes of the four speech functions available only three are used in commercial cigarette billboard text, statement constitutes 18 (69.25 %), question 1 (3. 8 %), command 7 (26. 9%), and offer 0 from 26 billboard texts. Statement genre used as the dominant one because it is suitable with the pattern of commercial billboard texts, where the viewer assumed only briefly saw the display of images and written text of the billboard with a duration of 5-7 seconds when they were driving. Thus, simple and powerful information in speech function of functional grammar and the language used must be efficient, effective and able to hypnotize readers so that results in positive action on the item being advertised.

Abstract

Masa pandemi Covid-19 yang belum berakhir menciptakan suasana belajar menjadi lebih terbatas. Pembelajaran berbasis digital tidak dapat dihindarkan demi terciptanya kelangsungan aktivitas pendidikan. Guru sebagai penyedia, pengajar dan penilai pada proses pembelajaran harus senantiasa upgrade skill dalam menghadapi realita peserta didik yang semakin jenuh akan situasi kondisi keterbatasan pola, media serta akses pembelajaran. Pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini memberikan kontribusi kepada guru-guru bahasa inggris di kabupaten Mandailing Natal yang tergabung kedalam Musyawarah Guru Mata Pelajaran (MGMP) Bahasa Inggris. Metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan ini berupa workshop dan pendampingan seputar desain pembelajaran bahasa Inggris berbasis digital yakni materi yang berkenaan guru melek IT, Penggunaan aplikasi Kine Master dalam mempersiapkan video pembelajaran kreatif, penggunaan platform penilaian melalui aplikasi dojo class dan pembuatan E-book kreatif dengan aplikasi flip book maker. Akhir dari kegiatan pendampingan ini, guru bahasa inggris dapat membuat E-book pembelajaran yang digunakan dalam mengajar dan melakukan penilaian kepada peserta didik dikelas daring lebih menarik dan inovatif sehingga penyuguhan materi pembelajaran dapat optimal.

Abstract

The research aims to measure the implementation of topdown technique on improving students ability at listening comprehension of grade XIak1 at SMKN 1 Panyabungan.The method of this research was Classroom Action Research. The participant in this classroom action research was 25 students of grade XIak1 at SMKN 1 Panyabungan. The instruments consisted of topdown technique, listening comprehension test, observation sheet, and interview, the data of this research was analyzed two method of data analysis. Quantitative data analyzed was used to examining and interpreting data from topdown technique and listening comprehension. The data taken from observation and interview was used qualitative data analysis. The research consisted of two cycles, before first cycles started, the researcher conducted pre test to know students listening comprehension real ability. First Cycle conducted after treatment given, due to the result of first cycle doesn`t improve in all aspect. Researcher continued to second cycles at the end of cycle. Three result test to be compared to know students improvement in listening comprehension. The result shows that the topdown technique better improves the students ability at listening comprehension. Students score were obtained from total score of correct answer which is converted to Toeic conversion scale. The findings on this study proved that teaching listening applying topdown technique improved students` listening comprehension. Significance improvement particularly in students ability to answer listening part one; matching pictures with statement. Based on the result of the study topdown technique to be recommended for the teacher in Vocational High School ( SMK ) to improve students` listening comprehension.

Abstract

This research aims to measure the implementation of Mind Mapping on Improving Students` Speaking Skill of grade XTKJ of SMK N 1 Panyabungan, Mandailing Natal - Sumatera Utara. The method of this research was Classroom Action Research ( CAR ). The participant in this classroom action research was 44 students of grade XTKJ of SMK N 1 Panyabungan, Mandailing Natal - Sumatera Utara. The instrument consisted of Mind Mapping Practice, Speaking test, observation sheet, and interviews. The data of this research was analyzed two methods of data analysis. Quantitative data analysis was used to examining and interpreting data from Mind Mapping practice and speaking test. The data taken from observation and interview was used qualitative data analysis. The result shows that (1) Mind Mapping better improves the students` Speaking Skill. This can be evidence from the students` means which better gradually improved in cycle one, and two, and (2) the researcher found that the changes of students` speaking skill are influenced by six factors, namely, interesting teaching media, interesting material, attractive classroom activities, enjoyable classroom management, attractive teacher`s approach, teacher strategy.

Abstract

This research aims to measure the implementation of the learning cell learning strategy on improving students` ability at writing descriptive texts of grade x- fashion study program at SMK N 2 Kotanopan , Mandailing Natal-Sumatera Utara. The method of this research was classroom action research. The participants in this classroom action research were 21 students of grade x- fashion study program SMK N 2 Kotanopan. The instrument consisted of the learning cell learning strategy, writing test, observation sheet, and interviews. The data of this research was analyzed two methods of data analysis.Quantitative data analysis was used to examining and interpreting data from the learning cell learning strategy and writing test.The data taken from observation and interview was used qualitative data analysis.the result shows that the learning cell learning strategy better improves the students` ability at writing descriptive texts. This can be evidence from the students` mean which improved gradually in the first cycle and second cycle that there was significance value on students` marks at writing descriptive texts through the learning cell learning strategy. The mean of pre-test was 61, 04, the mean of post-test in first cycle was 74, 23 and the mean of post-test in second cycle was 82, 80. The percentage of the students score in pre-test who got point up to 75 there were only 2 of 21 students (9,52%), and percentage of the student’s score in the cycle I who got point up 75 there were only 8 of 21 students (38,09%). It means that there was an improvement of about 28,57%. Then the percentage of the student’s score in post-test of the second cycle who got a point up 75 there were 19 of 21 students (90,47%). It meant the improvement was 80,95% from the pretest.

Abstract

Education is an effort to create quality human beings and shape human character itself. This is what makes humans cannot be separated from education and makes education a necessity for all time. Education itself has a system that consists of input, process and output. The output of education is to create quality human beings, this can be measured by good learning achievement. Learning achievement is the maximum benchmark that has been achieved by students after conducting lecture activities for a predetermined time including the value of good student attitudes. Classdojo is a free internet-based application that provides many features and facilitates its users to find out student activities or the development of student attitudes in real time. The background of the problem in this research is how is the implementation of the Classdojo application in calculating student behavior? How is the change in student attitudes in implementing the Classdojo application? The theoretical studies in this research are Learning and Learning Media Development, Classdojo-Based Learning Media Development, Educational Technology Concepts, Assessment Theory, Attitude Change Theory. While the Type of Research This type of research is a qualitative research by conducting case studies to several State Universities in North Sumatra, including the State Islamic University of North Sumatra, Padangsidimpuan State Islamic Institute and the University of North Sumatra. This research is one of the most effective ways to develop and even advance an application system for assessing student attitudes.The results of the research from the analysis above, Attitudes in general are feelings, thoughts, and tendencies of a person who are more or less permanent in recognizing certain aspects in their environment. The components of attitude are knowledge. feelings, and tendencies to act. The response in question can be in the form of actions or actions that can be observed and can be in the form of intentions or intentions to perform certain actions in relation to the object of attitude. The application of the clasdojo application to the assessment of student attitudes both cognitively, affectively and conatively is very beneficial and the changes experienced by students, especially in the application of positive attitudes.

Abstract

Aturan terbaru dalam publikasi di jurnal terakreditasi dan jurnal internasional mengharuskan penulisan citasi dalam artikel dengan memamfaatkan citation & reference manager seperti Mendeley. Mahasiswa dalam pengamatan yang kami lakukan masih menulis citasi dan daftar pustaka dalam karya ilmiah dengan cara manual, kemudian belum mempunyai wawasan memamfaatkan Mendeley. Dampak dari pelaksanaan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini ialah untuk mengangkat bobot karya ilmiah mahasiswa dengan pendekatan kemampuan citasi. Pendekatan yang diterapkan ialah ceramah, praktek, dan tanya jawab. Adapun mitra pada program ini ialah mahasiswa Prodi Bahasa Inggris Semester V IAIN Takengon sebanyak 13 orang. Dampak kegiatan memperlihatkan adanya pemahaman baru dan peningkatan kemampuan peserta dalam mengoperasikan dan membuat kutipan dengan Mendeley, sehingga mahasiswa merasa mudah menulis dan terbangun drajat karya ilmiah.

Abstract

Tingginya pengguna internet dan smartphone dikalagan millenial perlu memperkenalkan dan mensosialisasikan aplikasi Kejaksaan berbasis digital yaitu HalloJPN. Tujuan melakukan kegiatan ini ialah membagi informasi dan pengetahuan sehingga membangun pemahaman dan meningkatkan kesadaran hukum generasi millenial, kuhusunya mengenai hukum perdata dan tata usaha negara. Pada akhirnya tercipta generasi dan masyarakat berhati nurani, berbudaya dan cerdas hukum. Target yang ingin dicapai dalam program PkM ini adalah meningkatkan kesadaran dan wawasan remaja sebagai penguat dalam meminimalisir resiko yang akan terjadi terhadap pelanggaran hukum dalam berbangsa dan bernegara. Pendekatan kegiatan yang dilakukan dalam PkM ini adalah dengan pendekatan sosialisasi dan pelatihan dengan memperkenalkan aplikasi digital HaloJPN. Pelaksanaan PkM ini diharapkan membuka cakrawala dan wawasan generasi millenial dalam literasi digital di era informasi yang serba digital khusunya dalam bidang hukum. Kelompok millenial yang ikut berpartispasi pada kegiatan ini diharapkan dan didorong supaya dapat mentransfer ilmu yang didapat kepada kelompok millenial lain.
